IN ENGLISH Peckham to Whitstable, UK: 118 miles round trip - 6 May 2013 I (Nelly) had bought a new motorbike a week ago. A Honda CBF 500cc red. Naturally, on this beautiful sunny bank holiday Monday, it felt appropriate to ride out to the seaside for a proper test of my new bike. We chose to go to Whitstable as a close enough destination, and because we had never been there before. We mostly took the A2 road to the south east coast of England. We encountered quite a bit of traffic that slowed us down, but the ride was very enjoyable after all. One (sort of) panic moment when we stopped for a coffee late morning and my bike wouldn't start again! John checked it around, and it seemed to be a problem with ... read more

Leaving Hastings under a flurry of snow, with Ian sneezing and suffering quite badly, we abandoned plans to visit Hastings Castle and made a quick exit for Dover while we could! Woolly says – Poor Ian was feeling decidedly under the weather, sometimes we have to compromise and this was an occasion when it proved necessary. Finding our way to Dover was easy, I saw loads more cars from my I Spy book but due to our speed it was impossible to take pictures! We pulled onto Hawthorn farm, Martin Mill, Dorset and had a lovely greeting from the receptionist and she still keep smiling went I went back and told her that we had parked in the wrong place. I explained my total lack of direction and there was no problem. Jo headed off to ... read more

Testing, testing, 1, 2, testing... So since I fly to Thailand tomorrow evening I thought I should probably check I know how to post something on here from the comforts of my own bedroom, instead of trying to figure it out in some hectic internet cafe in Bangkok. So far, so good. I think. I have had a cracking last few days saying my goodbyes to friends and family, they even made me a cake! I will miss them all immensely. I have to say though I am somewhat concerned that pretty much every single 'have a great time' is annexed with something along the lines of 'and watch out for the ladyboys!' Unfortunately, I don't think it is within social ettiquette to be checking anyones genital areas for suspicious bulges so I will just have ... read more

Less than two weeks until I fly and I'm feeling comfortably ready. Despite the surprisingly pricey month I've had gathering insurance, cash cards and equipment, I'm still going to be travelling with £7.5k carried on 2 separate bank cards. This should be more than enough for everything I plan to do, with a little left over for some indulgence in Thailand, and a few good nights out during Freshers 2013, and beyond. The unwelcome sight of snow piling up on the garden furniture outside (as I write, probably about 5 inches) is stopping me working at my Chinese delivery job, and if the long-term forecast is right it won't be thawing for at least a week. Touch wood, Heathrow will be fine by the 1st of February. Aneirin and I are looking to do a fairly ... read more

I have 24 days until I begin my journey to India. This post is a test-run to check out how I'm going to use this blog to keep everyone updated. So far I've had 3 vaccinations, collected about 150 antimalarial pills, bought half my equipment, planned my route (loosely), got my Indian visa and booked my hotel for the first night I will spend in the centre of Delhi. Unhappily, I still need to sort out: Cash cards and Traveler's Cheques The rest of my equipment Other flights and visas in Asia Travel insurance International driving permit This all takes quite a bit of shopping around and research which, when I'm still working around 40 hours a week, is taking more time than I'd anticipated. Logistically, my route is a pain in the arse. India to ... read more

Dear Grace and Mag (my beautiful sisters...who my entries will be addressing from now on) Last night was my leaving party as you know...you were there. I had so much fun. Lots of people from all different areas of my life made the effort to come along, was so happy. My Uni girls, family, work friends, school friends and many more that I have grown up with. One thing everyone had in common though was lots of laughs, dancing and DRINKS!!! haha It all feels a bit surreal though because it was the last time I will see people for a little while last night but none of it is sinking in. I don't think it will until I'm actually on the plane which I am pleased about really or else I would probably be a ... read more

Originally we had planned to return home straight from London however we were enjoying ourselves so much that we decided to extend the holiday and drive a few miles further into the garden of England Kent. A county full of architecturally interesting oast houses, hop farms and blossom in the spring. The weather today though was somewhat colder and there were no flowers out anywhere. Just bronze leaves falling into piles on the ground. We drove Suzy down narrow lanes until we found ourselves at the picturesque village of Ightham. Our route was going to take us to the National Trust property of Ightham Mote. We had checked opening times and it seemed the Mote had closed for a few days after summer opening but had now re-opened for the winter season. What we hadnt realised ... read more
