Hello Subscribers to the H & H Blog, Contrary to popular belief, we have not fallen off the end of the earth! We’ve been at home for 12 weeks and it has been like having a full time job. By the end of our first week at home I had handed my notice in to the Children & Young People’s Service. I think that we had both decided by the end of 2007 that going back into in to the bungalow, going back to work and returning to our previous life style, was not going to be an option we wanted to pursue. So, as you can imagine, such changes bring complexities to enable us to move forward To further complicate our plans Dee & Julian (Bo & Dud) decided to book their wedding for Valentines ... read more

Ahoj. Zatial ahoj.B.... read more

Today I chaperoned a trip to Canterbury. I scheduled a boat tour which consisted of a very funny (and perverted) rower from Belfast, a small "river", and a lot of laughs. I learned about the Grey Friars and the Black Friars and most interestingly saw baby hens on sitting on a brick. The cathedral was amazing, as were the tombs, the crypt and the cloisters. I don't know, but this year it almost seems like I have seen so many cloisters they all look about the same! The funniest moment of all was when I saw some signs for a craft fair. Thinking I could find something handmade for my mom I followed the signs through the winding roads which lead me to a very old creepy church. I ventured inside and found two little old ... read more

Sometimes I wonder what the hell I'm doing. Ok, make that most of the time. But that begs the question, does anyone know what the hell is going on? Every day we make little decisions or end up in seemingly meaningless situations that impact on our entire lives. For instance, my Nan told me about a friend she has who was sitting in an airport, waiting for a plane and she was knitting. She accidently dropped her ball of wool and it rolled across the departure lounge to this man who kindly returned it to her. They are now married. And there are other decisions that you make, big, huge, fat decisions that you agonise over. That you turn over in your mind for years after you have made them. That haunt you because you have ... read more

Day 5: Thursday the 8th of May, 2008 - Ohhh boy… Here we go again… This morning was actually different from the rest!(surprise!) I got up at 6:30 took a shower, got dressed up to 7 o’clock. Then I tried to wakeup my roommate because we were supposed to be at Vere Road at 8 o’clock sharp! Of course I failed to wake him up for the 1st time. So I went to eat breakfast with Thomas. Only after I was done I got him out of bed using the magical words: “Breakfast is on the table”. That was already like half past seven… After breakfast I brushed my teeth and got ready to go. Alberto went to take a shower (I do not know how he wanted to get ready in 30 minutes but ok…). ... read more

Day 4: Wednesday (07/05/08) - The day when things started to get really fun. So morning was exactly the same as Monday/Tuesday. I got up at around half past seven, took a shower blablabla… you get the picture. The fun part starts at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon in Canterbury. After that there was of course the fun and entertaining barn dance ^^. Photo 1: The ruins of an old tower. So this is our guide showing us the ruins of an old bastion (or tower if you prefer). What was interesting was that on the outside part, there were white crosses painted on them. Those crosses represented the burning’s and lynching’s of people who were against the Church at that time. Each cross represents a time that happened. To my horror I counted over ... read more

Day 3 Tuesday (06/05/08) - The Next Day Ok so this day was almost exactly the same as Monday. We had lessons in the morning, then at noon we went out to eat/drink. At 2 o’clock we presented our surveys we did the day before. Me and my group got a 9/10, Thanks Lewis ; . After that we went to a disco. We predicted the activity would be fun, and we were right! Photo 1: My friends and I at the beach! The weather was beautiful and we had a beach near school. It would have been a sin not to go sunbathing =D Photo 2: Again at the beach Here we are again at the beach. Happy and satisfied with the overall feeling and the atmosphere! Day 2, Monday the 5th of May 2008 - School week begins! Normally school started at 9 o’clock but I got up at 7:30 to take a shower etc etc. Before leaving for school Alberto, Thomas and I ate breakfast - toast, coffee, and orange juice. I think we were all really excited to see how this would turn out. We left for school a quarter to 9 after asking Ms. Smith where to go. She said the Kent school of English was really close, and she was right. There were a lot of people in front of the school waiting to get in like us. After looking at the list of classes we went to our separate classrooms, where we took our skill level test. At noon we had a break and went to explore ... read more

Day 0 of our trip (D-Day, or the Day of Days) Sunday (04/05/08) Before the trip I was really worried. But all my fear and hesitations vanished when I saw my friends at school all ready like me to go to England. First we took a bus to get to Callais in France. The 3 hour bus ride went by fast for me because I was reading a book (Stephen King - Misery). After that we took a ferry called "Pride of Dover" over the channel to England. That reminded me of the ferry boat I took a few years ago from Copenhague to Gdańsk. We got off at Dover. By that time we were all very tired and wanted to just go to bed (we departured at 14:15 after some bus trouble, and we arrived ... read more
