Monday - Can't believe it's our last whole day here, yet I feel like we've been away from home for yonks and yonks! Catherine's lovely friend Catherine drove us to Chawton to Jane Austen's home and the home of her family, was fab although I wasn't feeling so great, in a bit of a cloud, just a bit tired. We had a giggle dressing up in clothes from the day, sitting in the gardens in the sunshine, and nosing through the house. We had a lovely lunch in the old kitchen in the big house, so quaint. We then had a little wander around Farnham and opppps more charity shops....I only got myself a beautiful butter knife with a ceramic handle... Renamed my hummus knife ? Back to Wren cottage in Odiham when I just had ... read more

Woke to glorious sunshine, so so lovely...... Melanie and I went to The Vine Church, which was literally 3 minutes walk around the corner from Catherine's cottage, I was a lovely place with such lovely people, they made us feel very welcome indeed. Afterwards we hung around for a bit chatting and drinking tea. We then headed back to Catherines where she was a busy little bee making an amazing Sunday roast dinner, her friend Catherine came too and the best bit was getting to see Rachel again and have a good catch up. When Rachel arrived and we hugged we both just welled up, was an emotional time. So jumping back a bit, last night on Facebook a lady called Anne got in touch, an old friend of Mels that she hasn't seen for over ... read more

Woke up this morning to lovely sunshine and in the cutest cottage in the world, snug in my bed! Up bright and breezy as usual, lovely breakfast, then a lovely time with Catherine whilst we waited for Melanie to join us around midday from Chandlers Ford where she had been visiting an old friend of hers. We then headed to Hartley Wintney to have a mouch round the quaint little shops, an organic health shop (right up my street, came here last time I visited Catherine), a charity shop and then we had a lovely lunch, mine was a Mediterranean roasted veg sarnie on ciabatta with rocket, so yummy, going to make that back home! in this great cafe. The cafe was in this courtyard behind an this amazing shop filled with such lovely things, nick ... read more

Princess Cruises provided a transfer from our London hotel to the cruise terminal in Southampton. Once again, a private driver and car picked us up. It was quite interesting to converse with the driver, an immigrant from Afghanistan, about the current world situation. He had a brother located in New York state and a sister in Germany. His brother operates an Afghan restaurant while he is a professional driver using his own car. I must note that I found it interesting that highway distances are still indicated in miles in the UK while temperature and other measurements are given in Metric. I've known Southampton as the arrival and departure port for the great transatlantic ocean liners during much of the 20th century. The Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, S.S. United States and QEII as well as the ... read more

Day one of 'three go round Europe' and given that we're in the right hotel, at the right time with a still intact roof box and a sleeping baby, I'd say it was a success. With the boy in nursery we had to figure out how to pack the entire house into the car, remember everything and fit roof bars and a roof box all in time to fetch him at one and head on our way. Having not realised it was the 'national panic buying of roofboxes weekend' we head stupidly assumed Mr halford and his team of friendly efficient staff would supply and fit us a nice box on our roof. Several fraught hours shopping and umpteen phone calls and we realised that we would have to go it alone. With plenty of encouragement ... read more

Wednesday 14 June we left Plymouth behind and made our way to Portsmouth via the motorway and pretty English villages. We are staying at the Royal Marine Club for six nights - a very nice hotel just near the harbour. Parking at the hotel was at a premium but John found a parking spot for our little red bus and there it will stay until we leave. Thursday we bought ourselves a ticket to the historic dockyards which allows us to explore this great place over a number of days. Our first stop was HMS Warrior 1860, a 40-gun steam-powered armoured frigate built for the Royal Navy in 1859–61 and HMS Victory. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalger in 1805, the shop he died on. We ... read more

Hi travel followers/lovers. We finally got a free day (raining and miserable outside) to start updating everyone on our UK adventures. After leaving Martinstown and after we finished our first UK house sit, we had 4 days to tour the south west coast of Cornwall, England. We travelled from Martinstown to Polperro via Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Plymouth. All lovely towns, BUT I must say Polperro has to take the win for the most beautiful little cove we have seen to date. We stayed the night at Milly's B&B after walking to the Smugglers Cove , but the weather was a bit crook so we waited it out in front of the fire with a couple of "Pimms & Ginger ales" in the Three Pilchards Inn while overlooking the harbour. Just one of those spots and ... read more

So, just before I left for the Paris Roubaix, I had started to fix the body panels on the Discovery, thinking it would only take a few days. Well it didn’t. In fact it took the following two weeks, after I returned to get it finished. But I’m happy to say that the effort was rewarded with a Pass certificate from the MOT station, so I’ll except the extra time it took. Without further delay, I threw as much underwear as I could into the Van, grabbed all the bits I forgot the first time, and left the following Monday, with the objective of reaching Calshot beach, on the edge of the New Forest. As Bob the van is unhappy reaching motorway speeds, I opted for the “avoid motorways” option on the Tom tom, and yes ... read more

Geo: 51.2351, -1.12412We set off early for the airport. Looking forward to a cooked breakfast at Gatwick. We sat in the same table in Wetherspoons that we sat in when we went to Portugal with Leanne, Rilwan and Marley last year. The plane wasn't full so we had a bank seats to ourselves. Although the 10hr seemed to go by quickly you still get off the plane feeling like you've been run over by a truck!Pretty biting flight and arrived in Havana. It's the same drill whereever you go these days. Through immigration, through another time scanner and off to collect the bags. It's a pretty chaotic process here with people everywhere. Everyone looks to be tourists. We met the Cuba Direct rep and were taken to our taxi. A 1950s Plymouth complete with broken speedo, an air ... read more

Stefano I had hosted Stefano once before but just for the night as he needed somewhere to stay for a business trip. After Stefano had kindly hosted me at his apartments in Luxembourg and France, I really wanted to return the favour of his hospitality by hosting him at mine and to show him some places he hadn't seen before in England. I took the Friday off work and Stefano booked his flight tickets for a long weekend visit. Hartley Wintney I've been living in Hartley Wintney for a year and a half, after buying a brand new home through a government scheme to help first time buyers get on the property ladder. This is the first property that I have ever owned. To buy a house in the UK is not easy as the housing ... read more
