Started working here at C.T.A. around the end of August. Drawing shopping malls again, same as NZ, but much larger scale and all new stuff! Im the jammiest bugger, went from a good wage on High St in Auckland, to an even better wage (especially when you trebble it!) on Kensington High St in London! 150 staff here though, and a bit of a lumbering monster really, like the rest of the country. I swear, the red tape this country love tying around their neck amazes me that they ever colonised any, let alone most of the planet! Got a bit scared in those first weeks, couldnt figure out how they could create a building of this scale when their drawings were in such a mess. But after chatting with the chief draftsman, I found out ... read more

First weekend I was in town, Nix and Alistair took me to their local club for a night out. Was pretty quiet in there and we got talking to some of the DJs and the door girl and they invited us along to another couple of regular nights they worked. I decided a couple of weekends later to pop along to a gig over in Whitechapel. Nix and Ali werent up for it so off I wandered into the London night! Was a really good night! Got in cheap cause Kristina was on the door, Zaki and Georgia were playing in the 2 rooms, music was cool. Got chatting to some people on the dance floor and ended up hanging out with them the whole night, which was cool. When we were leaving Monkey (aka Craig) ... read more

Hello everybody, Welcome to the first entry in the blog, it's going to be a cracker! Nah not really, just getting warmed up. Just to get the ground rules sorted out, I am not sure how often I am going to be able to update this blog, especially with pictures. I have visions of busted Indian pc after busted Indian pc refusing to upload as much as gif without a good kicking, with Shabana trying to drag me away from the technology that she hates over here not forgetting interfering with her spiritual enlightenment as well. Whilst I am on the subject you will also not see many pictures of her on the travels, this is not because I only like landscapes, or that Shabana is really imaginary. Its because she hates to see herself in ... read more

Well here I am about 10% excited, 10% daunted and about 80% worried that I am am not going to have sorted all the things I need to do before leaving. These gap year students have it easy, no house to worry about, no council tax, water, electricity, gas, house insurance to get sorted before they swan off round the world. Bloody students - soap dodgers! Try and get the Indian visas done tomorrow, a very unused to early start is in order to get to Aldwych for 8.30am. Leaving the Thai and Nepal visas for another time. Got the plumbers and a tiler coming on Thursday to try and finish the bathroom before I leave. Why oh why did i wait 4 years to do and finally get it sorted a few week before I ... read more

Date of entry still a bit out. After meeting up with Shaune, an old UNITEC mate, I decided the best way forward was to set up a company and contract draft. I registered with an employment agency that Brooke put me onto and they had an interview for me the next day! Had been having trouble figuring out the new ipod, so shot down to the internet cafe to make sure I could show some examples of work and... wiped it! Went to the interview anyway and once I got a hold of some drawings to email them, got the job. Still had to go see Cam's old boss for an interview over there, so that gave me a week or so before I had to start work. Started staying with Becky and Harley over in ... read more

We've arrived in london its now 7.40am on 19 aug. Waiting for car to take us to hotel. its about 15 deg. Tons of people coming through the airport and for the first time, seen so many African folks...very colourful and bustling people. Anyway, whilst Ted was getting the baggage, guess who I saw and for the life of me couldn't remember his name when he was walking past ....Richard Carlton! What a tall man, daggy t-shirt and his luggage has been places. Wanted to say hello but would have sounded like an idiot if I called him Ray Martin or something like that. Anyway, the trip here was quite a journey. We have been fed and fed on the plane .....the whole 23 hours of it! We had a one hour stop over at Singapore ... read more

Spent the first couple of weeks here doing the sight seeing thing, trying not to spend money. Sleeping for the first week was interesting, no Gena to cuddle up to, damn hot and muggy, (30deg days and 22deg nights), and Niki and Ali's flat is right above a busy North London St, buses screaming past, local boozers yelling shit all night long. First day went down to Islington and Angel for a wander, grab a phone card, use the internet. 2nd day went into Oxford St for a bit of light shopping and a wander through Hyde Park. Really great sunny day, people sunbathing, eating icecreams. Did all the majors from the outside during these weeks; Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Millenium Bridge, St Pauls, Parliament Buildings, both Tate's, the ... read more

Again, bogus entry date, still trying to catch up! Ah England! Landed at Heathrow about 9pm local time, breezed through this joint. Not as flash as Hong Kong, no one around, past the sour faced customs woman, (realise now that's a standard look for Londoners), grab my bags and buy an A-Z. Alistair had given me basic directions to their place, so I ssked directions to the tube, bought my ticket from the machine and we were off! Had to change from 1 line to another half way through, got a little confused, asked some girls for help and was sorted. Then waited for an hour for the next train due to signal failures! (Welcome to the London underground!) Got chatting to an American lady, (English dont talk), and she helped guide me through the final ... read more
