As directed by ‘Walking in London’ by Peter Aylmer, we began the walk from Camden Town station. Following signposts, we walked through bustling high street with a number of independent shops selling interesting looking items. We entered Regent Park from northeast gate and passed chestnut lined Broad walk and head for Queen Mary’s gardens. Roses were not out yet, but there were lot of flowers blooming on the beds and water rock gardens. Though he seemed to be a little confused with directions, Mark managed to find ways to find the bridge to join the towpath of Regent’s canal. I remembered walking along Regent’s Cana in 2000 before we married. Nothing was changed from that time – we saw a number of grand mansions with valley gardens along the towpath. We were then directed go up ... read more

Mark has a privilege day – the day after the 2nd Bank Holiday – and it usually is sunny day every year. We decided to visit Regent Park on 1st June. Regent Park is the most memorable place for us – this is where we first went out together 26 years ago. We strolled through rose garden, Japanese water garden, sunken garden, etc on Queen Mary’s Garden and were blessed with a wide variety of scented old roses, clematis, lavenders and colourful flowers on the water-rock garden. Next, we walked around Boating Lake. Lots of paddle boats were out and driven by tourists – and we were greeted by a wide variety of waterfowls – herons, ducks, swans, glebes that looked very contended and pleasant under the sunny weather and in the lake surrounded by green. ... read more

1 May 2017, the 1st May’s Bank Holiday – it was typically showering and sun shining – as London’s residents, we went to Regent Park and explored one of our favourite parks in the afternoon. We started walking from York Gate. Chestnuts trees had lush foliage and pretty flowers. We headed for Queen Mary Garden. As soon as we arrived there, it began showering and we had to hold our umbrellas. We strolled around herbaceous borders, sunken gardens and Rockery Water Garden. Wisterias were flowering and their leaves and flowers were intertwining along the surface of the wooden bridge – they made a very authentic scene. We walked through winding routes containing lanterns, cascades, stream, willow trees, waterfowl and the wisteria bridge. Together with these water garden features, the spring shower made an atmospheric environment. We ... read more

Yesterday, I took the train down to London Zoo. This was my last UK zoo this summer because I am taking the channel tunnel for the return drive to Warsaw on Tuesday. If all goes to plan, I will be visiting two zoos on the drive back, those being Antwerp and Leipzig. London Zoo I have visited London Zoo five or six times before - most recently last December - so it wasn’t a new zoo for me, but I enjoyed my visit nonetheless. I quite like London Zoo; it receives a fair bit of criticism over wasting space and not having enough large animals but I don’t think it’s as bad as some people think. There is quite a bit of wasted space though, there is a large area in front of the restaurant and ... read more

I began my trip in a little airport in Treviso, Italy and I mean small this place was like a crop dusting sized airport. But I made it through security and customs fine and that’s just dandy. Now this being my first flight with Ryan air I didn't know what to expect as I boarded the plane. I noticed there was no seat number on my ticket. It's a free for all sit where you please, it was pretty cool. Upon arrival in England I went to customs border people and these people asked me everything from how much money I have on me and available to me, to wanting to see my return trip and hostel reservation on my emails. Freaking insane it was very odd as every other time I've gone through customs it's ... read more

Sherlock Holmes Museum Having heard that Sachi and her mum would visit St Paul’s Cathedral early in the morning on 14 February, I decided to meet them on the platform of Holborn on the Central Line. Sachi suggested me I would show her mum plaques of Sherlock Holmes on the Baker Street, as well as taking her the museum. I showed her tiles of Sherlock Holmes’s portraits in the station and statue. We found a queue in front of the museum on the Baker Street, and had to wait a bit before entering. We were invited to go upstairs, shown the bedroom, drawing room, or Watson’s Room and Mrs Hudson’s room, etc. All of the furniture, stationery items, detective goods and documents, which were displayed in the rooms, were associated with Sherlock Holme’s life and stories ... read more

Early morning trip to Twickernham, stadium and museum. My highlight was getting to sit in the Queens seat at the ground. Did practice my royal wave wearing the ring. lots of walking and running to trains. Trip out took 20 mins on a fast train. We debated going to wembly or kensington place before deciding to go to the zoo. Went via Regents Park and a picnic. Zoo was much different ot when I was last here but still very very small and no where near as good as Sydney. Highlight was Gorillas for me, penguins for Kasey, pirhana for Cooper and reptiles for Greg. on to Camden Town, too many star wars tshirts for me to decided. Very crowded tube for a trip south side. Went to Indian for dinner. All very exhausted from non ... read more

1 January 2012 was Sunday, so it game us the Bank holiday next day. We had planned visiting St Marylebone Church and walking on the Regent’s Park. After reaching Regent’s Park station, we headed for St Marylebone Church. On the way to the church, we were talking about Great Expectation and Charles Dickens, and then came across the relief of Charles Dickens and his family. St Marylebone Church was associated with his family and his novels, e.g. Dombey and Son, the description of baptism ceremony for his son at St Marylebone Church. Marylebone is associated with one of his most famous novels, e.g. David Copperfield. We strolled through the nave and looked at the pipe organ, altarpiece, mahogany choir stalls, archangel carvings on the mahogany furniture and marble mantelpieces, stained glass, and some of the Christmas ... read more
