A new blog entry, because it has indeed been a journey. Several years since my solo tour around the world, I found myself perusing international jobs. That's an indication if ever there was one, that I was ready to get my travel shoes on again. Delighted and surprised I was then, when I saw the role of Taste Master Western Australia up for grabs. Thought-to-self: really? I could get paid to do what I ordinarily pay to do?! I have been to (and blogged about) Australia twice on this blog - once as a weary wandering backpacker, and once as a holiday maker. Both times on the east coast. Having made the shortlist (woop), I am SO excited by the prospect of foraging on the west coast. If you've read my travel or food blogs you ... read more

Happy Saturday. I woke up early to fit in a 5K run. It was weird to see the distance on the treadmill actually calculate in KM versus the US standard mile. When I hit 2K and looked at the time, it was impressed at my faster speed... only to be disappointed when it dawned on my that 2K=1.2 miles... time=slightly slower than normal. At the end, I managed to fit in 5K in 44 min. I'll take it for being on vacation. After the run, we headed out/back on the hop on hop off. We went to St. Paul's Cathedral. We climbed to tower. First up... the whispering gallery. What I found out afterwards and wished I knew before was that Sir Christopher Wren designed the gallery so that if one person sat on one end ... read more

We left home in the evening and woke up in London. Not a bad way to start the day, unless of course you get stopped at customs for having a defaced passport. So I walked up to the customs officer and showed her my passport. She looked thru my passport and we went thru the normal questions... Why are you here? Where are you visiting? What will you be doing? How long are you here for? She then proceeded to flip thru my passport. She noticed that I had written several city names on various pages. This was my way of remember where I've been and what each of the stamps represented. She said, "while it is nice to remember where you've been, you know this is a government document and it's illegal to write in ... read more

Randi and I started our Spring Break adventure by boarding a plane at Shannon Airport to London. When we arrived we had to figure out the crazy subway system called the "Tube" to get to the house that her friend Lachelle was living in. After an hour long ride, we met her friend at the station. The place we stayed was in a cute little town called East Finchley. Shortly after we arrived, we decided to go and hit the town cause we wanted to go see the city. We decided to go see Westminster Abbey. Unfortunately when we arrived there, it was closed because it's never open on Sundays. We made the best of it though. We took pictures with Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. There was a building in the same square ... read more

I learned last week that I'd be coming to London, yes London, on business for five weeks, yes five. For the first two, I'll be working alongside my colleagues Steven and Andrew. Then they'll go home to the PNW, and I'll finish the time here on my own! So today's trip almost didn't happen, due to a mix-up between our flight confirmation numbers. It wasn't clear from our shared TripIt that one confirmation number is only mine, and there's a second confirmation number for the two of them. When check-in opened 24 hours prior to our flight, at least one but I think both of them started trying to check in using my confirmation number with their own last name, an invalid combo. When I then tried to check in myself half an hour later, I ... read more

As people say, the first time will usually stick; and my first experience in watching a musical in London definitely does. Going in with little background knowledge of wicked and wizard & oz, I was pleasantly greeted with great singing and acting with a pretty decent plot. Some of the songs do stick too, and the story did touch me a little. Well worth the money! Will be looking forward to watching more musicals in London before returning to Singapore, especially Le Mis and Phantom, two of which are highly rated by friends. Thought the day would have ended, but things just got better, when impromptu-ness kicks in, and when guys like us just have the “just do it” spirit. And so, from a mere comment of wanting to try out the public cyclo-bikes for rent ... read more

Since we are studying in England, London is definitely a must-visit on our travel destinations. Though I had a brief time in the city before and after my Spain trip, I didn't really explore around much. This trip has definitely been a much anticipated one, for a few reasons: Firstly, getting to witness a live football match of the club that I supported since childhood days. Eagerly looking forward to it ever since we got our hands on the tickets, it was on the top of the to-do-list. Besides that, it was looking forward to the meeting of school mates from Singapore in London. Having arranged prior to the trip, friends from Norway, Denmark and Germany came down and with the company of friends around, travelling in a foreign land really makes the trip so much ... read more
