Oh my..oh my. Well. Crumbs. Basically this blog is only to let you know that i am back on British soil safely. At present words are not happening. If you want to get inside the head of Marc create mass panic and shock then add a large amount of rather naughty and expletive words. My plan is to soon get the Claire back on board for one last blog full of our thoughts, highlights and opinions on travellig. For now i'm stunned and apart from seeing family and real tea (both perfect and very very much causes for happiness) not overly impressed. What will become of me i have no idea. It's been a whole more than a year. wow - post travelling is a strange strange place to be. hmm. marc... read more

So I arrived in a clear and cool London. What a wonderful flight... The city is really beautiful and the weather is fantastic. I just bought myself a europe-SIM so that my loved ones could stay in contact with me at all times. I cannot recieve any international calls, but I sure can recieve and send smses. So those of you who wish to stay in contact with me through this media, please feel free to save this number and sms me at any time: +44 776 020 6977 I will be on Heathrow for about 15 hours and fly to Milan and then to Russia in the morning at 4am. As I arrive in Milan Italy, I will only have one hour to board for my next flight and will thus not write from Milan. ... read more

That was tough, saying goodbye! No turning back now. The adventure begins. . . . . .with an 11 hour plane journey, which was delayed by two hours! Fantastic. Having never flown particularly far before, the prospect of being wedged into a small seat for longer than your average working day was not pleasant. OK, so I had a small screen infront of me and I was expected to sleep for much of it, reminded me of work a little, but thankfully my colleagues were never in such close proximity. A large-ish woman on my right and a couple on my left did their best to disrupt any chance of sleeping I might have had...but eventually, after watching an interesting tv program about an Aussie who handmakes cricket bats, whilst I ate dinner, I wrapped myself ... read more

Today I depart for Heathrow for Kathmandu. This last year and a half of my life has been crazy. Frantically training, fundraising for WaterAid, writing for Oxfam, sponsoring Moris in Kenya and campaigning on environmental issues which indirectly increase poverty. Ironic that the pinnacle of this challenge is to climb to Base Camp as in a way it feels like I've been climbing all year. If anything I hope I've managed to show that actually individuals can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who has helped out. Together we have managed to change the lives of over 200 people by enabling WaterAid to provide clean water and sanitation. Hard to believe all this came from a visit to a pit latrine at Glastonbury festival and watching Live 8! I passionately believe that everyone should have ... read more

hello everyone! Well here i am, i have made it safe and sound to the other side of the world! PHEW! It was such a lonnnnnnnnng flight but i made it through and thankfully am showing no signs of DVT! however i have been paranoid at the slightest little ache or pain!! BUT i am slowly geting over that and am enjoying being in a new country.. so i guess i will start with the flight.. nothing too exciting to report.. the first leg of the trip (only 9hrs!) was pretty quick and easy, i was in the window seat with 2 lovely, quiet, small people and was able to get out pretty much whenever i wanted. We had 3 movies on that flight and a really nice dinner, Thai Red Beef curry... it was acutally ... read more

9:50am After circling around the skis of London for 20mins we landed smoothly on the soggy tarmac of Heathrow airport. Finding the railway was a synch and after withdrawing some cash from the ATM I set off in search of the hotel. Now I sit here looking for ways to pass the time so I can book in and then go catch up with Simon - an old mate from IBM and rock climbing. Bought tickets to go see Simon at Potters bar - but the train turned out to be an express and sent me to Edinburgh I think. Anyway had to catch the next express back just in time to join the other contiki travellers. ... read more

As preparations get under way the point of no return has arrived: the bike has had to be crated and shipped: this translates as me giving someone my pride and joy, who then nails it in a wooden box and sends its off to who knows who, to be flown in who knows what, all in the vain hope that it will be waiting for us next Tuesday morning in the Buenos Aires cargo terminal. Truly the point of no return!! The crating was pretty straight forward, and the bike really only needed the front end trimming to cut costs by about 15%!! Not a thrilling read, but to any that are interested in further information for their own trips, please look at the shippers advice page on the Horizons Unlimited website... read more
