The excitement and nerves of a long trip are somewhat overshadowed by the pressing need to get where I’m going, despite the best efforts of the UK transport industry. That’s unfair, but it makes good headlines to sell papers. In fact my bus from home left on time, my train was delayed by 20 minutes and the coach connection from Reading to the airport was held until the late-running train came in - a fair result, given that the train wouldn’t start at Weston Super Mare. Once inside the airport, I entered the international facelessness of a major airport, with barking announcements, bland signs and a plethora of advertising. No, I don’t need a new bank account (who decided to target the ‘stressed traveller’ for that market?) and buying a ticket to win a Bentley would ... read more

So here I am in Heathrow Airport saying goodbye to my amazing family and about to board the plane to Bangkok! Well here we go. Being nervous is normal I'm told when you are about to travel alone around the world but I'm sure this sick feeling and constant poo-in-the-pants feeling is not. Its all good though, I'm excited to finally be doing something I've wanted for years.... read more

After a sleepless night, I woke up at 7:00 on the 28th with stomach pains. At first I put it down to nerves due to my fear of flying, so I popped downstairs and had some breakfast, but promptly threw it up! I had a couple of other symptoms that made me realise I had caught the same bug my parents had had the previous week. I was due to leave the house at 8:00 and I felt like shit. I decided to go to the airport anyway... I could always bail out at the last minute. Will could already tell that I was going to be a nightmare to travel with, but I didn't tell him quite how bad I was feeling. After a quick call to mum, I stopped off at the chemist and ... read more

"You little shit, i'll miss you". My obviously deliberate plan to leave my mums car empty but for vapour to make parting easier as she tackled the morning rush hour had worked... Despite the snow and the traffic I made the flight in plenty of time, and I had a leisurely wait in departures. However things were about to make a turn for the worse. I was informed by the very polite girl at checking "I'm really sorry, but there are no emergency exits in economy on this flight". Those with legs as long as mine will realise my concern at this was not fear of a titanic-esque second class locked below decks while the social elite escape, but fear of 11 hours without being able to feel my feet while sitting next to a couple of ... read more

So Nichole and I were eventually reunited in Terminal 1 of Heathrow Airport. After our 30 minute trek to Terminal 4 we walked around all the shops. Of course we got hungry and finally cose to eat at Cafe Uno -an Italian Restuarant. We figured the food would taste better since we were closer to Italy then ever. It sucked. LOL. It was super wack. Even the water tasted bad. Four hours after our arrival in Heathrow, we were off to CPT! Rest assured, Nichole and I did get to sit next to each other. ... read more

Hi Everyone. And to those of you who came to the airport, thank you so much for the fabulous send-off! I was moved to tears. The last couple of days in Phoenix, I've been so present to how very much I love my life and appreciate all of you. I'm going to miss being able to pick up the phone and call you, or grab a cup of coffee whenever we want. I'll miss you...already do. And thank you, Gia for the fabulous Phoenix sweatshirt. I had to check my carry-on bag, and forgot that my change of clothes were in there...I was in short-sleeves (as it is beautiful and warm in Phoenix right now...sorry to those of you in other places!) Anyway, as I sit here in London and was on a chilly plane, I ... read more
