I was in London recently where I attended a Study Day at the British Museum. The Study Day complemented my current university studies so I thought it would be a good idea to go. I went down to Kings Cross the previous evening and stayed overnight at the hostel nor far from the station. I was relieved it was a short walk because of the rain!!! I simply checked in at the hostel and settled down for the night. The next morning after breakfast, I checked out and walked to the British Museum. I have been to the museum many times previously but not recently. First thing I noticed was the interior change! There must have been some extenstive refurbishments since my last visit. I was impresseed with the space and lighting! I think John Soane, ... read more

Once upon a time there was two awesomely awesome people named Courtney and Maggie. On a random whim they decided to go on an adventure to Europe... Day one: We both arrived at the airport stupidly pumped for our trip. Although being so so so excited about what was ahead of us, we both managed to cry thanks to the efforts of Kaity. We will miss everyone so much but this trip needs to happen. By the time we arrived in Sydney we had both composed ourselves and the excitement was back! The flight from Sydney to London was long but fun all the same. Arriving at 6am you'd assume we'd be exhusted and jetlagged, but not these two little black ducks!!!!!! We werent able to check into our hostel until 2pm so decided to ditch ... read more

I skipped classes today! ahhhhhh my first time ever missing a college class. But I am just horribly sick. I wanted to stay in bed today in hopes of getting better because I had planned to spend the day in Gloucester and Wales tomorrow. So keep your fingers crossed for me. And in return I will write you a great entry all about it. Happy Mardi Gras everyone! Hope you are all filling up on everything horrible for you, as Lent starts tomorrow. I know, I am not Catholic, but ever since 6th grade, when Kelsey taught me Lent, it is something I have participated in. I always start out by giving up many things, maybe one makes it all the way to Easter. This year, I will not fail though! Because Chris and I are ... read more

Day 3 in a row! I am on a roll! WARNING: Flat 15 is under quarantine! No one enter upon risk of contracting the plague! A few nights ago, Haley, my neighbour, had to be taken to the hospital vomiting up a storm. She had a stomach virus that is now going around. Henry had it yesterday and no I think my flatmate Emeri might be coming down with something. There are signs all over the door of 15, warning possible guests and victims. I bet I will wake up sometime this weekend with this vile bug. I hope, if any day... it is Saturday. Have fun things planned for every other day. Today was the usual Thursday... wake up for classes a little before 8, only there was something extra special about this morning... our ... read more

Well, this was the trip that almost wasn't!!!! I left Strasbourg on the 14:16 TGV to Paris, arriving at about 16:40. I had a good hour and a half to make the train to London's St. Pancras Station in Bloomsbury. So, I decided to go for a quick walk. I wrote a few postcards as well, with all the time I had. The only potential problem I could see was that I had to walk to from Gare du Nord to Gare d'Ouest. But I have done that, and knew it was about ten minutes away. And I knew I had to be back thirty minutes prior to departure. Evidently, that is all I knew. When I arrived at Gare d'Ouest, with plenty of time left. I noted that curiously, the departure board noted that the ... read more

On Thursday 30th October, Paddy Walsh took me to the Byzantium Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. It is open from 25 October 2008 to 22nd March 2009. It shows a vast array of paintings especially icons, busts such as that of Constantine 1, coins, parchments including some depicting the psalms, reliquaries, mosaics, chandeliers, perfume braziers and embroideries. Apparently W B Yeats wallowed in the culture's mystery and splendour: ' ... I have sailed the seas and come/To the holy city of Byzantium ...' ... read more

Professor Gerald Grace (Director), Dr Paddy Walsh (Deputy Director) and I met to discuss matters of common interest at the Centre for Research and Development in Catholic Education. Other Centre staff include administrators Sr Maria Supavai and Mr Matt Urmenyi. The Centre has recently published an International Handbook of Catholic Education and is preparing to launch the first edition of a Journal titled 'International Studies in Catholic Education'. Discussion focused on our Champagnat: A Marist Journal of Education. Another name for our Journal could be Champagnat: An International Marist Journal of Charism and Education. There could be a couple of young Assistant Editors preferably from other countries, and a Managing Editor (Juliette Hughes). Our Journal is both academic and professional. The word 'charism' appeals to some. Bryk et al in their text on Catholic schools re ... read more
