HERSTMONCEUX CASLTE EAST SUSSEX, U.K. The Dorm - Bader Hall After finding our rooms and dropping off our luggage, we headed to the dining hall in the castle for lunch. It was much smaller than I imagined, and not as much food options as i'm used to at my college at home. But at least the food was alright. And there were pretty stained glass windows, and flags on the walls of all the different schools the students here are from. ...Etown flag After lunch they... read more

Part of my plan while living in London is to not only travel to exotic European cities, but to see more to the UK itself. In a first step in that regard, I headed to Brighton with Trav on a sunny Sunday in August. While it had not been that long since I had set foot by the ocean, Trav had been oceanless for 6 months, hence the choice of destination. Now Brighton is on its way to being a real beach - no sand, only pebbles, but people lying on said pebbles (on towels!! - not the most comfortable proposition - although deckchairs are also thoughtfully supplied for a small fee), (small) waves and seagulls. There is, however, no smell of the ocean (or at least there was not on 27 August), which is disappointing. ... read more

Ed: Matt once told me Brighton was the quintessential summer spot for Londoners escaping the city for some surf and sun, but having experienced it only in the middle of winter back in 2001, it was hard to imagine that this quiet seaside town could turn into a hot spot that would rival Rio during Carnival. Our friend Christopher was arriving on Friday, so we decided not to plan anything major for the weekend and let him settle in. However, when Kathryn and Kelly informed us the evening Chris arrived that they were heading to Brighton the following day for Gay Pride, it was an adventure too hard to resist. So the following morning, with packed sandwiches we took the train down to Brighton. None of us had any idea where to exactly head, but soon ... read more

The weather was supposed to be nice (it being end of July) but it started of quite chilly and continued for the rest of the day with a spot of sun here and there... Hadn't been to Brighton in ages so I was thrilled to tag along with the Jacobs and Sanidads. Had loads of fun and eat lots of bad things, but what else do you eat on Brighton Pier but bad things!!!... read more

So, this is my first entry on this journal - the first of many I hope. I'm currently working my penultimate day at work, so what better than to write a quick entry here to get this thing going?! I think my leaving date is seven weeks yesterday, and I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to go and get my vaccinations. Once this is done, I'll be one step closer to leaving... At the moment my rough, undetailed itinerary (which gets even more vague nearer the end) is as follows: September 12 - Fly from London Heathrow to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Spend about a month in Brazil, traveling round bits of the country, which will hopefully include a visit to the Amazon. Travel overland into Argentina. Spend another month here, before ending up in Patagonia. ... read more

Well we made fifteen miles of this walk, having started rather late due to Judy's fast driving but missing the turning a couple of times. Not too many cars in the leisure car park and nobody dressed up as a duck or windmill - just a couple of nurse uniforms of the old variety. We were overtaken by a geriatric running club - one member looked as if he wouldn't make it to the end of the road but I presume they jogged the 7 mile circuit which is pretty impressive. Shocking arrow directions to start with but they improved and the watering stops were excellent with peaches and nectarines as refreshments. Commandeered the gents toilet at one stop. What the hell do other women do in the loo that takes so long. Only two steep ... read more

We have now headed out of London to stay with my cousin, Phil. He lives south of London in the countryside just north of Brighton. To get there it was a few trains and trams to meet phil who would drive us the rest of the way. We stopped in Wimbledon on the way. It was a week before the tournament and Dave tricked me into believing he saw Pat Rafter. Well it was only a week before, but then i caught on when he said, Oh and Leyton Hewitt was with him!!! We also found a place there called Jumbuck's that is exactly like Jester's, we were stoked. Pie's for us!!!!! Once we met Phil we drove through the country to his lovely little cottage thats overlooks fields and hills. It is so nice and ... read more
