From the family thing we travelled to Brighton to catch up with Corb's mate from Engineering, Ron (Rob Lorimer). He has a pretty sweet flat in a cute terrace house with an attic that we are sleeping in. It's close to town which is sweet but the trains that pass by every 10mins shake the place which is a little unnerving in the middle of the night. After a beer and a quick catch up we headed into town to the South Laines where we had a great Spanish feed, visiting several pubs on the way home. Waking up today we saw Ron off to work and then set off to see Brighton. The sea front was nice but kinda cold and blustery this morning, and the empty and motionless pier fairground was a little depressing. ... read more

The train ride down from London was a bit confusing due to works on the line, but after a train, a bus and another train we made it to Polegate station and were met by my Mum's cousin Stephen. Spent a couple days with Stephen, his wife Jane, kids Thomas, James, Johanna, Chris, Matt & David and the furry ones Bonnie and Clyde and managed to get everyone's names right by the end. Also got to meet my grandfather's brother Raymond who was just like him and the other brothers and his lovely wife Jessie. We all went out for a meal and then a drink at the local rugby club which was pretty classic - I think I was related to half the bar! On Sunday Stephen took Corb and I out for a drive ... read more

Victoria & Albert Museum img=http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b62/newharth/england/london/victoria%20and%20albert%20museum/entrancelobbyarea.jpg ^entrance / lobby area I went to the Victoria & Albert Museum on a field studies trip for one of my History classes: England Since 1851. We almost didn't get to see the British Galleries section, which was the main part we had come to see. When we got there they said it was closed for renovations. But one of the security guards ended up opening it up for our class so we could still go through it. Most of the displays were of artifacts from various different British colonies throughout the empire. We were supposed to be thinking about how they all contributed to British culture and national identity. Geo: 50.7777, -0.0957273Shastra and I caught the train to Brighton today. She was my roommate on my tour through the middle east and she was in London for a weeks and then heading back to Australia. It turned out to be great weather, just a bit windy. First we headed towards the pier. Apparently when you are in Brighton you have to eat fish, chips and mushy peas- so we did while sitting on the pier. The pier is full of amusements and rides. Shastra really wanted to go on the merry-go-round. So we did. It was actually fun! When then went to wet our feet in the water. As we were chatting a wave got us! So we lay on the pebbles to dry off, it didn't take long, as it was quite sunny today. ... read more

Goodbye London...hello Brighton! For two and a half days, we walked miles around London, exploring the city's districts. Just imgine walking from one side of New York City to the other in three days. We coincidentally arrived for London's biggest festival-the Thames River Festival-and were enticed into playing on a gameshow on the Yahoo! bus (where ALL of the questions were trivia about London...very unfair) and heard a concert by Stunt-Man (some UK boyband) and watched the equivalent of Mardi Gras during their Night Parade. On Monday we took a bus to Brighton, where we were met by Phil, (my sorority sisters husband) who welcomed us into his flat with beer and a futon. Gratefully, we accepted for two nights and went out for amazing Thai food. What a luxury to have the internet and be ... read more

So this was the first time we went to London... When we got there the buses took us around on a tour and I took ALOT of random pictures of all the old buildings and monuments and everything. Then we had some free time in London... not alot though, especially considering most of it was spent making our way over to the Globe Theatre. There wasn't much time to do anything else. At the Globe Theatre we saw The Comedy of Errors. ...my ticket img=http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b62/newharth/england/london/P9160135.j... read more

8-9:30 - Breakfast 10-11:00 - Introduction to Student Activities 11-11:30 - Introduction from the Musicians in Residence I don't know why they call them musicians in residence. They don't live here. They're a couple from Canada with alot of musical experience, and they handle all the musical activities at the castle. They offer music lessons and provide instruments for students to rent, and the man directs the school choir. He plays piano and the woman is/was an opera singer. They acted as though they hadn't planned to perform anything for us that day, but after a little encouragement from some of the students in the audience, the woman decided to sing "Die Zauberflöte" from The Magic Flute. I love that song. She sang and he accompanied. It was awesome. _________________________________________________________________________ _____________... read more

8-9:30am - Breakfast The breakfast food here is better than what they serve at lunch and dinner. Too bad it's so early. 10-10:45 - Introduction to the Student Services Team & Guide to Surviving the First Week at the Castle Think I remember any of this? I was too busy trying not to fall asleep. 10:45-11:30 - Introduction to the Operations Team We met the Operations Director, the Estate Manager, the Bars Manager, and the Food Services Manager. 11:30-12 - Sussex Police Safety Talk Apparently we're in one of the safest places in England. Good to know. 12-13:00 - Castle Tour Yeah they do 24 hour time here.
