Well day 1it is - the morning flew by and at about 11.30am the Greens came round to wish me goodbye - and so I was waved down New Road heading to Swindon station. It felt like it had all begun the sun was shining and all good. 12.42pm train to Bristol then change for Plymouth and then a little local train to Penzance. Louise, Jess, Mollie and Ollie waved goodbye to me from the platform as the train slowly pulled away. And then on my own - it had started - I thought I would read but too excited and just looked out the window and eat my packed lunch !!! squashed in a holiday train, leaning on the window again old green trees and grass green, jumping, shiny, winding stream a fat river ever ... read more

Throughout the night the wind buffeted Georgie and the rain continued to hit her at every angle, we stayed snug and warm inside her, a great shower this morning while Woolly slept…… Woolly says – I was conserving energy!!! The rain was still lashing down although the wind had calmed somewhat we regretfully decided to head onwards and leave Padstow behind us. With gusts blowing Georgie every which way and Ian working hard at the wheel and, the girls attached to the windscreen actually agreeing for once, we set sail for the end of the world!!! No not the end of the world Woolly, Lands End, it’s the most south westerly point of the UK and is famous for the distance between there and John O’Groats in Scotland. Woolly says – going past strange fields of ... read more

Arrived at St Just with the luxury of knowing that there are only 5 miles to go and with luck very little hill climbing. Each morning I have been very pleased with what seems like a good recovery from the day before but by the afternoon I want it to be over asap. The only comfort is that the more miles I do is less to do later. The cycle route I chose for the final days was National Cycle Route 3. The designers of this route are determined that you will not miss out on the lovely coves that predominate in Cornwall. This means that there are a lot of very steep downs and ups of which I had had enough. I abandoned this the NCR 3 after Truro while preferring the B roads that ... read more

Cornwall was covered in thick cloud when I arrived, I passed St Michaels Mount and made a mental note to self that’s a must see. Once I found the hostel, which was situated down a very narrow country lane which allowed one vehicle at a time, hum this will be fun if someone else is coming the other way; my reversing skills are very wobbly. I discovered that reception wasn’t open till 5pm so I headed off to Penzance a larger town that was right by the sea. As I drove around town I noticed all these boats on the sand lying on their side, when the tide goes out here it really leaves home. Forget the saying, miss the boat bad luck if you miss the tide. I parked my car and wondered around the ... read more

Today’s weather turned out to be a little overcast, windy and a bit cooler than yesterday. We both had a good night’s sleep in our cottage a few doors up from Richard and Gail, which Gail had arranged for us to stay in. Today we decided to go to Lands End and have a look around the most westerly point of England. There is a tourist village here with shops and various other attractions including a Doctor Who display. Gina and I went in our car and Richard, Gail, Koren and Mawgan went in their car. Just before setting off, we went around and had a tour of Koren and Ricks’s bungalow. We had a walk around the park area, which is privately owned, for about 90 minutes and went on a retired RNLI lifeboat. This ... read more
