Cornwall was covered in thick cloud when I arrived, I passed St Michaels Mount and made a mental note to self that’s a must see. Once I found the hostel, which was situated down a very narrow country lane which allowed one vehicle at a time, hum this will be fun if someone else is coming the other way; my reversing skills are very wobbly. I discovered that reception wasn’t open till 5pm so I headed off to Penzance a larger town that was right by the sea. As I drove around town I noticed all these boats on the sand lying on their side, when the tide goes out here it really leaves home. Forget the saying, miss the boat bad luck if you miss the tide.
I parked my car and wondered around the town it was a nice place and of course I found another crystal shop, boy I don’t come across them like this at home. I found myself a little piece of quartz from South Africa so I was happy, as I was leaving a lady came out the back room I thought to myself she must be a reader, as I got outside the sandwich
board read Tarot Readings here today By Anne Moore, well I couldn’t resist I walked back in and said well hello Anne Moore I’m Marisa Moore, we had a laugh and a chat and then I was on my way again.
That night around eight thirty I walked into my room and I was surprised to see it glowing orange the cloud had lifted and the sun was just getting ready to set, you should have seen all the people standing around the ground watching this sight. I had a little giggle when someone yelled out this is great we only get to see this three times a year, we are really spoilt at home. I had left my camera in the car, one of the ladies I was sharing the room with said to me it’s ok I will load my photos on your computer for you. Lovely offer except once I loaded the photos on my computer it wiped them off her camera BIG BUGGER, and then do you think I could find them on my computer NO NO. I felt so bad I sat there looking for ages whilst this lady was saying oh well easy come
easy go, never mind it was just not meant to be. I finally found the buggers they were in another folder, a folder in a folder type thing. What a relief I copied them on to her USB stick, all is well and next time someone offers it will be, thanks but no thanks.
The Lady I shared the room with was liked minded, she had been studying aromatherapy and had a love of natural therapies so we sat up for hours talking. I had a really enjoyable night, I’m saying lady because after my panic with the photos my mind went blank and I couldn’t remember her name, I felt a little rude not to mention stupid. She told me about a place called Glastonbury and suggested I swing by on my way to Bath.
The next morning I was up early and I headed off to St Michaels’ Mount it’s a castle on a little island just off the coast when the tide goes out you can walk across to the castle I was early so I caught the boat. As I approached the pier man said hellos how are you, thinking he was staff I said really
well thank you and you in a big cheery voice. He asked me if I was one of the staff members who worked on the island, no I’m a visitor oh that’s good because there has been heaps of staff arriving, well Marisa obviously he’s not staff either, oh well we got talking and ended up spending the morning walking through the castle and grounds together it was nice to have some company. He is travelling the world as well, sadly his sister died from cancer last year which has given him a completely different perspective on life. He walked away from accounting, and when he returns from his journey, he will be studding to care for animals in zoos, I’m very exciting for him and I was happy that he was able to see life for what it is and what it has to offer and just go for it. There is nothing to lose in this life by following your heart.
St Michaels Mount is actually lived in by the owners and it is run by both the owners and the National Trust. Imagine having a castle to live in! It goes without saying my home is my
castle, ha ha. The inside of the castle was beautifully preserved, all the rooms where furnished one of the rooms was dedicated to love, food and wine, it was pale blue and white the furnishings, painting and Urns held small references to the subject it was a very peaceful room.
As we left the castle we were able to walk off to the main land, we said our goodbyes and wished each other luck on our endeavors and then we went our separate ways. As I headed off to my car I realized I just spent the morning with a lovely interesting gentleman and we didn’t even exchange names. That’s life and that’s travel, I always say friends for a reason, friends for seasons and friends for a lifetime it makes sense with all the people we come across throughout our lives.
Where to now, the Minack Theatre it’s an open air theatre near Porthcurno and Lands End Cornwall. It is built in the cliff face and overlooks the ocean and beach. The traffic was horrendous leading to the theatre, as I pulled into the car park the attendant asked if as here to see the show or the beach
I said I wanted to see the show, he didn’t think there would be any tickets left so I parked the car and walked to the office. Luckily for me there was one ticket left with my little name on it. As I made my way to my seat I was treated to a stunning view it is amazing the blue sky was pocking through the clouds the different shades of turquoise in the oceans the amazing cliffs the long stretch of sandy beach and of course it wouldn’t be a beach without seagulls, enormous ones at that. The seagulls were like torpedo’s diving in to the ocean from a great height, as they plunged into the oceans you would see a little splash and a few seconds later they would bob up to the surface flap their wings and take off into the sky to do it all again.
The show finished at 4pm, it has been a very warm and event full day.
