I can't believe we only have 4 days to go! We've spent years thinking about it, months deciding about it, and now we have both quit our jobs, sold our house and on the 6th January we fly out for a trip round the World. We've bought the rucksacks and plenty of travel gear, not too sure how i'm going to pack everything I need for 6 months! We fly first to India, then Singapore, Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand and then the USA. We're hoping to use this blog site to keep in touch with friends and family back home and as a record of our big advenure so please send us comments. We're very excited......next post will be from India!!! ... read more

I'm in the U.K and it's 2006. Hooray! So, I know I said "Africa", and I know that "Africa" is different than "England", but these things happen, bear with me, people say one thing and mean another; it happens. Fortunately for all concerned (i.e. the entire free world), I AM in fact heading to Africa, on Wednesday in fact, but I decided it was, one, cheaper, and two, more in keeping with the adventurous spirit of my plans, to get a one-way ticket to London and then fly to Africa from there. And so I got in touch with my good friend Russ Sharp, who lives in Bristol, about meeting me for New Year's in London, and he offered me a place to stay in Bristol, which is but a two-hour train ride west. And by ... read more

Well this is my first entry, with just over three weeks till we fly to sunny Bangkok. Firstly I explain where were going, who i'm going with and what stuff we've had to do to sort it all out. Our trip consists of 7 flights in total spread over at least 6 months, they are as follows: UK to Thailand to Cairns (to Sydney by land) to Auckland (to Christchurch by land) to Figi to LA to Newyork to UK and thats about it! Theres three of us going in total one good looking one (me) and two ugly bastards (Pearce and Court), in truth were not really the traveling type, more pub and club men, but we'll give it our best shot! Pearce was a insurance man, not really sure what he actually did, nothing ... read more

I spent the weekend in Bristol living a bit like a local and a bit like a tourist. First off, Ian drove me around the city to see all the important sights: Welsh Back - the neighbourhood by the docks where the Welsh ships used to come in to sell goods. Have you ever heard of “Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion”? It means to be neat and tidy and comes from the Bristol ships which had to have a certain shaped hull and had to bring in their sails in a certain manner in order to sail into the Bristol docks. The Welsh ships were in a different design so they couldn’t make it into the regular docks. As a result, they stayed in a different part of the river to sell their goods called the ... read more

So Myself, Leeza, Frenchy and Sammie all managed to get the same day off and headed to Bristol on a train for a day of Shopping and Drinking. It proved to be a funny day with Leeza and Frenchy being themselves and cracking us all up. We got to Bristol after an hour and a half on the train and thought we would catch the ferry along the canal to the city centre. We jumped on the ferry and was told to get off due to too many people and a bigger boat was on its way, so half an hour later we actually made it to the centre. There didnt appear to be too much there but walked around a bit and found an Aussie pub again and this time they had the typical kiwi ... read more

Many many weekends I ascended on the city of bristol. Met at the train station by Chris (who I met whilst working at Thames Hospital and became our temporary flatmate). Now living in Manchester, we stayed with Chris' parents. Bristol has a possibly extensive history (that I know nothing about). It looks pretty and stuff. The town centre is built on a hill - you get fantastic views of large stone buildings and church spires. No english town centre is complete without a statue of queen victoria and Bristol's is the scarriest that I have seen. With the IPOD plugged in we chose to visit Bath for the day on saturday - paid 20p to visit a garden by the river and bathe in the sun. Visited the bath houses - which were from the roman ... read more

We have been in the United Kingdom for over a month now and last week decided it was time to settle down and get a job (the NZ dollar does not go far over here, quite a shock to the system after South East Asia). But it has been great seeing some of the uk and being made so welcome by all of Sams family. Christmas was amazing, we now know why we sing about "dreaming of a white christmas" it snowed all day and in the beautiful scenary of the Lake District it was breath taking. We brought in 2005 in style up in Edinburgh, Scotland. The fireworks were amazing. This is definately our favourite city in the UK so far, the architecture was awesome. Then it was off to Glasgow where we experienced real ... read more
