Yikes! I've just been in touch with Virgin Atlantic and booked my flight to LA! At the moment I'm feeling really proud of myself, excited, but also a little apprehensive as the step into the 'unknown' is now in sight!! NO GOING BACK NOW!... this really is it... "Feel the fear, and do it anyway!" :o)... read more

NOT LONG TO GO !!! We have 2 weeks left in England before we disappear on a round the world trip for 12 months...both of us are starting to get really excited now, just buying the final bits and pieces including spending a fortune on Malaria drugs ( Malarone )!! Hopefully no side effects ruining the trip though. We are going to Thailand first, then... * Cambodia * Laos * Malaysia * China * Australia * New Zealand * South America Including... * Chile * Argentina * Bolivia * Peru * Equador All this obviously depends on the money not running out but fingers crossed! Apologies if this blogs not too interesting, just really using it as a 1st time experiment, just to make sure we have it all sorted. We fly on the 17th ... read more

Hello again to everyone and a big new years hug to you all. Sorry to have not written for a few days but i can confirm that we are now safely home and snuggling into our own bed again. What a nightmare though!!!! After two days on the computer and many phone calls to every airline that exists, we discovered that ther were only two flights left until Feb 10th, so we had to cut our losses and come home, which was a bit of a shame as the last part of the journey was to the Black Sheep in the central Andes, and not quite the same as the George Bush airport at Houston!! But we are remaining philosophical and seeing it as an opening to go back there in the future and discover more ... read more

This house has never been so clean. I'm told we're kidding ourselves if we expect it back in the same state, but we live in hope. First order of the day was a trip to the chiropractor for us both in preparation for the 10 hour flight. 12 hours later and we've packed every last scrap, just the sleeping bags to put in the loft in the morning and we're off. Not quite sure what I feel, a little too overwhelmed to really know. Tom, however, is like a kid going to DisneyWorld - it's like he's been drinking coffee non stop all week. He's defintely excited enough for both of us. It's coming up to mid-night and Tom is squeezing in the last of the Ashes coverage he's likely to see, we've finsihed off ... read more

Got home from work last night and decided to order a pizza a crack open a bottle of wine, then it was onto throwing all our clothes out onto the bed for a major sort through. I was dead impressed with my ruthlessness, I really did do the 'haven't worn it in six month, throw it' thing. I am now down to the clothes I actually wear and it's amazing how few it really is... which doesn't mean I won't be splashing out at a Bangkok tailor with gusto. It'll be like the 'what not to wear' £2k shopping spree, but where money goes that mile or a hundred further! I've been checking out other blogs and sites and on the clothes front, I'm so excited about having hand made shoes made... I mean I only ... read more

The planning! Argh, the planning. When does it stop??? But the goodbye celebrations have been fun and the gifts very generous. Thanks for the goat guys - wicked idea (sponsored). Now what do I do when the inevitable time comes for dining on goat in a small village in Africa?... read more

Passports arrived back today with India and Vietnam visas. Full page proper inserts with holograms and everything (though for 200 notes I should think so too). Probably going to lay all the kit out on the bed this weekend and see how (if?) it all fits... Also got my car valeted today and it looks spanking. Someone's going to get a bargain I reckon - there's no way it looks like an 800 quid motor! Anyway I put an ad in Trade-It, so will hopefully get some interest next week.... read more

1st Blog Entry Here we are sitting in lovely Clifton preparing to leave with our families gathered for final farewell. We have been enjoying curries and desserts culminating in a 'happy travelling cake' complete with eight candles representing the number of months we will be away for. It's a long time! Yeah!!! Pour eux qui sont francais, on est desolé mais vous allez etre obligés d'ameliorer votre anglais! To all those reading this who are not familiar with the Bristol2Bombay team; We are all friends who met at Cotham Grammar School in Bristol around the age of 13 or so. All born and bred in Bristol, apart from Samwise who maintains his African roots (The Gambia) ;-) We have all recently finished our A-levels and will all be heading off to University next September, Jona and ... read more
