Today we woke up at 6:00 am to hike it to the train station for our Jouney to Switzerland. Its 3 hours by express train to Milano, then another 2 hours by express train to Speiz then a small little 20 min ride into Interlaken. The northern Italy mountains were beautiful but once we entered into switzerland the mountains got bigger and more beautiful. :) Finally made it into the town of Interlaken surrounded by mountains at about 2:30 and wandered over to our hostel to check in.. Once we were all checked we decided to head out and explore the old and new parts of the city. First thing we noticed is how expensive everything is swiss francs, a combo at Mcdonalds is 11 Swiss France which is about 13 Canadian dollars. We have only ... read more

A long, reclusive stare; the young child had clearly never seen anyone different. I was in a small breakfast restaurant in a even smaller town in Switzerland. Four tables, packed together with strange 1950's themed tablecloth, collecting dust from the lack of hungry customers or the vacant life of the outside streets. His mother and father were cooking me up something from the menu that I had pointed to (ham and cheese...the only thing that looked somewhat familiar), as they did not speak English. The boy’s wondering gaze grew deeper when I murmured up a “hello.” Even this simple word he did not understand (or chose not to speak out of fright). After he half turned, startled from the strange words of this handsome (self-proclaimed) customer, he stirred the courage to continue his wandering gaze. Finally, ... read more

He told me I was late ( in a joking way ) But the lady told be 820 she will pick me up so I was on time MOM. Get my gear and pack and jump in the van. There were three vans and they were all packed. Im not to keen on huge groups like this. Especially when it involves crazy stuff that needs guides to keep an eye on things. But ... read more

Woke up around 10 am. I wasn't that sore from yesterdays canyoning surprisingly. We got a map and figured out what route we wanted to take. It was set, route 25 from Grindelwald. Ali and I met up with another friend at the train station and we started our long journey. (with a quick stop in the store to get water and lunch for the top ) Train ride was about 30 mins to get up to Grindelwald and then we had to hike down to get to the actually starting point in Grund. We walked around looking for the signs and finally found them and it was along the river with some nice rapids going through. Such a nice, shady route. Got to one check point with a hotel and we walked in and saw ... read more

Up and ready to rock and roll. The weather looked horrible and was a little nervous we wont get to go down the canyon I want too. Got picked up around 9 am and we went to the camp site. ALPINE Rafting ( amazing place ). It was a huge crowd of people and we were being rushed left and right to get our gear and sit down for a prep talk. He pretty much tried to tell us this is not a canyon to fuck around in and there are some high jumps. He said if you cant jump ten meters ( 30 feet ) or scared too then we need to switch you the other canyon. I was a tad nervous because Im not to keen on heights but I just have to push ... read more

IT TOOK forever to get here. Left at 7 am in Nice and then Got here in Interlaken Switz. at 530. 4 train transfers and 10 hours later I'm in Heaven. Its so beautiful here. I mean I'm surrounded by mountains all around me. I'm exhausted from the train rides and since I have an early morning tomorrow night to go canyoning Im going to hit the sack really early. The food here is so expensive. Since I'm here for 5 days I went to the grocery store and cooking this week. Saw a few skydivers as I walked along the park. It was pretty neat but I definitely cant do that.. I'm happy with just canyoning and ice climbing. There is also lots of free hiking everywhere so I'm going to the top of some ... read more

Beautiful-- the only way to describe Interlaken. Interlaken means between two lakes, and well gosh darn it if that wasn't the most proper name ever, nothing is. Not just any lakes, but lakes that are the brightest blue/green and as clear as gin. However, for as beautiful as the lakes are, the mountains overshadow them. Being poor, we took the more affordable option of the day, and that was to take a funicular (a train that goes up a mountain at an angle) up to a restaurant on the side of a foothill of the swiss alps (mind you we were still some 4000 plus feet up). After lunch, a few of us decided to climb to the top of the peak we were on. The climb was fun and probably only about 2.5 hrs round ... read more

Due to poor bus frequency up the Kiental Valley, we flagged that idea and decided instead to go to Adelboden, up the valley from Frutigen. Since the forecast was for rain we figured we could do a lower hike back down the valley. However, on getting to Interlaken it was raining steadily. By Speiz it was raining, cold and blowing and the lake was very choppy. Now the choice of hiking territory wasn't looking like such a good idea. Hmmm, what to do? Go home or go elsewhere? Since we were to go to Mariann's for dinner we opted to stay around the area and instead go down Lake Brienz to Iseltwald on the south side of the lake. We put on all our wet weather gear, covered the packs and set off in continous steady ... read more
