We are now entering the port intensive portion of the cruise. First stop, Malaga. We were here before with Rich so many of the attractions were old hat. Still it is lovely to find familiar spots is foreign cities. We strolled past the cathedral and the old cardinal’s palace and found the cafe were I had enjoyed a drink in the past. I had forgotten that the drinks were humongous. We each had a G&T at the tonic came in a small bottle. The Gin or Vodka however were presented in a large brandy snifter with a couple of ice cubes. It is the only time I can remember where they served a larger proportion of alcohol versus the mixers. Total cost, 10e. We chatted up a woman who was vacationing from England and worked at ... read more

We were going to take it easy today because the forecast indicated rain and, having walked 4 miles for the past SEVERAL (lost count) days, we were going to give our bodies a rest. As the morning continued to brighten and the temperature was fairly cool, we decided going to Cartagena might be a nice idea. We figured it might be a nice slow walk and we had wanted to go see the Roman ruins. We finally headed out about 9:30 or so and arrived around 10:15. We weren't exactly sure where we were headed and decided to let Google maps direct us. Naturally, as we've had happen in the past, Google maps lead us on a wild goose chase. Later we learned it was taking us there, but to a place where we were unable ... read more

It was a sight to behold, Rob driving through the laneways of Valencia, from the carpark to our apartment. This place is an absolute maze, put a car into the mix and it becomes something else. With bags packed into the car we are off. Thank heavens for a gps. It was mainly highway driving until we remember that La Manga was worth a visit. With an adjustment to the gps we turn off the highway. It is hard to describe this place. On one hand it is really interesting, on the other really tacky. Let me explain. Menor Mar is a bay on the Mediterranean. From one side to nearly the other (21km) is a spit of land. This is La Manga. It looks like the Gold Coast only 1 or 2 streets wide and ... read more

Calpe greeted us (as a town not a person) with a trip to get Claude's wing mirror repaired. The more alert of you will remember it was smashed going round Norway and we had been driving for several months with it being held together by duct tape and a much reduced visibility. This did not distract us from travelling thousands of kilometres as we knew we would save pennies by getting it fixed in Spain and that indeed was the case. A very friendly company - Euronautica - had ordered in the replacement mirror so we set out to find friends Alan and Annie. You have to remember dear readers, that we had never been to this town before so our knowledge of where we were was not exactly an exact science. You have to remember ... read more

Happy New Year I hope that 2017 brings you good health and happiness. Chris went back to the UK for a visit in December and I was quite happy on my own, having a car makes getting around so much easier. I did the usual things gym, school etc and also joined in a Christmas meal in Mula with a group of people who run a local charity shop. I needed to get an NIE Número de Identidad de Extranjero so that I can open a bank account and move forward with the work on the house so decided to drive to Lorca, about 45 minutes away thinking it would be less busy than in Murcia City.It took about half an hour to find the office which is a hut at the end of a derelict ... read more

Kiko Park was a great find for us. It was situated right beside the beach - about 10km long - so many walks and runs and chasing of balls (I walked, Cusco ran and you can decide about the other yourselves) were had. The town centre was an easy walk and Wendy enjoyed going in with her shopping trolley to get bread and 48 cans of beer for your correspondent - oh how she loved those days. Strangely, I had to " go and get my own bloody beer" after her first trip. A great little bar just off the beach called Placebo served platefuls of fresh food, including a ceviche for me. The old part of town offered many windy lanes and old churches to explore and then settle in a bar for a beer. ... read more

Hello from Casas Nuevas! When I last wrote we were just arriving in Biergas on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. The campsite at Gavin was in a nice setting and as it was quiet we parked across two pitches to get some space. There were lovely views across the mountains and magnificent kites and gryphon vultures soaring on the thermals. Chris had done a huge amount of driving and some of it not straightforward so when he suggested we move on I insisted we stay till Tuesday. Sunday we did some jobs on the van, more sealant required on the aircon unit and a change of bedding and cleaning then we just chilled in the sun. We ate in the restaurant attached to the campsite. We had a delicious meal with some local dishes Chris’ ... read more

Our time in Aguilas was full of special guest stars, so I shall try to give a bit of detail about each visit. First to arrive all the way from Bournemouth were Jane and Rachel. This was quite an achievement by Jane, as up until recently, she has had a morbid terror about flying - even hearing the word used to give her the screaming heebee jeebees !! Now, although still nervous, she is able to complete short flights, so a lot of credit to her. A lot of credit also goes to Rachel who had to sit next to this quivering heap of nerves for two hours as she ate her way through a few sets of Rosary beads !!! Nevertheless, they arrived safely and we picked them up from the airport to drive back ... read more

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today is another unique experience for us because for the first time we are NOT taking an excursion. There are several reasons: (1) mostly because there are only 5 and none of them got us too excited, so we delayed booking and they all sold out; (2) we will be back here in 3 days on the next cruise so we can do one then; (3) yesterday was strenuous so we figured a day to rest would be a good idea. Anyway this is another “first experience” for us. We slept in this morning getting a good night’s sleep. Then we took advantage of many people being off the ship so we could do another load of laundry and restock the closet with all our clothes being clean again. Then we went ... read more
