Hi Everyone! Glad to be back online and glad to be back in the circle of life! As some of you know, I was sick for the last few days! I was stuck in my apartment since I arrived from Salamanca that dreadful Sunday afternoon. My apartment has turned into something like a hospital (just kidding), well I´m saying that because all the time in my apartment there are a few people who are sick, so we can definetely blame it on them. It´s so nice to be back in school, I missed all my classes this week and today I made it to my second class. The teacher of my second class even hugged me when he saw me coming in. I really missed my classes and I´ve forgotten how to speak Spanish because my ... read more

Nothing is as perfect as a beautiful spring day in Europe. That´s what the weekend was like. It was walking in the Plaza Mayor, el Rastro (the sunday market where you can buy anything and everything) where there are more people than on New Years eve in Times Square, dancing salsa, watching a futbol (for those Americans out there, soccer :) game and enjoying a movie in spanish without understanding anything. There is not enough time in our lives for sure, too many things to do, too many things to see. The more I see, the more I want to see. I actually went to a futbol match on Saturday, I wanted to go for so long and finally I saw a match between Madrid and Valencia. Of course Madrid won, go Madrid! It was great ... read more

Hola chicos y chicas! I'm still in Madrid and it is so much easier here. The pace is similar to New York's. There's always traffic, always honking, people rushing somewhere on the street and trains full of people who are reading the same bestsellers as in New York. For some reason, I keep getting stopped on the street or wherever by people who always ask me for directions or whatever. I don't know why they always choose me and for this reason I 've learned to say with the least amount of accent No Se {don't know} and this way they continue to think that I'm a Madrileno. It's easier to get coffee to go because there's Starbucks everywhere and it's easy to find an internet place cause they are everywhere, so I was even able ... read more

It has been a little over a week since I arrived in Madrid. I´m trying to take it easy here because Barcelona took away all my energy and strength. I tried to avoid anything cultural this past week, unfortunately I still ended up at Reina Sofia museum. The museum has a nice collection of modern art, the same guys as always dominated the collection such as Picasso, Miro, Dali. I preffered the collection of Miro in this museum rather than the one in Barcelona, it was mostly his latest works which are no more than a dot and a line usually. It´s funny to see the progression of his works, it only took him 50 years to arrive at the style of a dot and a line. The Reina Sofia is home to Picasso´s infamous Guernica ... read more

How I miss Barcelona! I guess the old saying is right on :) you don´t know what you´re missing until it´s gone. How great was Barcelona, the only thing that makes me feel better is the fact that I know I will be back there for 3 days before my flight back to New York. I also miss the warm weather. It´s so cold here in Madrid, one day I´m wearing a summer dress and the next I wish I had a hat. It was really freezing this morning, and what´s most upsetting is that no more flip flops! ;( Madrid is so different from Barcelona. The streets are much bigger, the buildings look heavier if you know what I mean. It reminds me of New York for some reason, it´s less european looking than Barcelona. ... read more

Well, here I am in Madrid, having completed stage one of my epic journey successfully!! Go me!! It´s 30oC here today, bit of a scorcher, but it´s getting up to 35oC by the end of the week in Extremadura - ouch. I´m travelling down to Caceres tomorrow, with a couple of the girls I´ve met on the training course here in Madrid, then I´ll be visiting my school in Trujillo for the very first time... We´re going out on the lash in Madrid tonight, so hopefully I´ll get some good photos to put up here!! Got to go, time in the internet cafe is running out - will write more soon. Hasta luego K xx... read more

The last day of the tour began with an early morning trip to the Spanish Royal Palace. For the past few days, Madrid had been abuzz with the excitement from the royal wedding of Prince Felipe. The wedding took place at the Catedral de la Almudena, adjacent to the Spanish Royal Palace. Now over a week since that historic wedding, here we were standing in the courtyard of where it all took place. Our tour of the Spanish Royal Palace was guided and with all guided tours, I quickly lost interest in what our guide was telling us. Inside, the palace was very much how I had envisioned. It was quite vast, lavish, and definitely built to impress. We wandered through the many rooms of the palace while admiring all it's intricate details and beautiful ... read more

Today was another early wake up as we had to reboard our bus for the drive back to Madrid. Before leaving, the entire group gathered in front of the bus for a group photo. Since we were such a small group compared to most Contiki tours, an "official" group photo was probably cancelled. We drove for most of the morning back to the capital, arriving in Madrid just before noon. We were finally back to where it all started almost 2 weeks earlier at the Hotel Praga. The rest of today was a free day as there weren't any planned activities. However, the group was going to get together later in the evening for dinner. Shea and I decided to venture into Madrid and visit a few of the famous museums. We knew that they were ... read more

For my fourth overseas trip, Shea and I decided to venture over to Spain. We took advantage of a special deal Contiki was offering where if you book by a certain date, the second person flies for only $100. After splitting the airfare in half, our round trip tickets to Spain via Germany were only about $450 per person. Months of planning and anticipation had finally arrived, it’s time to leave for Spain! As usual for me, my procrastination made the morning of May 18th into a mad rush to get some last minute things done. I had organize my finances, start packing, purchase some things at the store, as well as look for a battery charger. We left Simi Valley at around 12:15 to pick up Shea and head to the airport. But first ... read more
