Barcelona is Spain's second city and the capital of the proud and distinct region of Catalunya. The Ramblas is two different streets by day and by night. We stroll it from top to bottom, there is plenty of street entertainment going on all day & night. We took the cable car up to Montjuic (mon-joo-EEK) for a commanding view of Barcelona and its harbour. We spent 5 days in Barcelona and saw and toured plenty including: Picasso Museum, Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Parc Guell, Cable Car to Montjuic, Las Ramblas, Barcelona Cathedral and the Barri Gotic. ... read more

Amid the marshy zone where the Ter flows into the sea, is the medieval village of Pals. The old quarter, known as El Pedro, contains many historic buildings: walls with towers, an old castle or Torre de les Hores, a Gothic church, and a monumental cross commanding a fine panorama. As well as views of the coastline and mountains, Pals has cobbled streets and ancient village walls and archways. Stroll through and explore the narrow streets which house a variety of restaurants and trinket shops selling everything from ceramics to jewelry. You’ll be charmed with Pals narrow pathways, stone houses, and flower boxes overflowing with color. The countryside is dotted with handsome farmhouses. There is a Club de Golf Pals, considered one of the best in Spain. A small museum of underwater archeological finds and a ... read more

Girona is outstanding amoung Catalan cities for its long history and its rich architectural heritage. It lies in the Ter valley, at the point where this river joins the Guell, the Galligants and the Onyar and for this reason has been called the "city of four rivers". The site is a strategic one, on the age old route linking the northern corner of the Iberian peninsula to the rest of Europe.... read more

After a flight from London to Spain, we were greeted at the airport by Paul, who is Holly's cousin twice removed - I believe thats correct, anyway, I'm sure Paul or someone in the family will correct me on this if it proves to be incorrect. This was another highlight of our trip we will never forget. Thanks so much to Paul and his lovely wife Elunia. We appreciated the kindness and warm hospitality. Elunia was gracious and her cooking was the best, very delicious, very HEALTHY, its worth traveling for. Paul was constantly humorous and well natured, we love you both and Blancita too! Thanks again for everything and for showing us around.... read more

Barcelona is a great city once you get outside of the tourist madness near Las Ramblas, which you should avoid at night because of the chaos. You could safely walk through plenty of crowded tourist centers throughout the world and be fine but 3 people tried to rob me in an hour and there’s not much police can do since it’s so crowded. You might as well swim through a shark tank. But the city will still probably exceed your expectations. La Sagrada Famiglia is really impressive, but it doesn't photograph well due to construction and the tour didn’t capture much either. Hope that you live long enough to see it finished. I went on a bike tour of Gaudi architecture and enjoyed it all. The man-made beach isn't the islands, but it's better than nothing. ... read more

Welcome to the (end of) November edition of the Slapper in its new and improved format! This month we travel to the sunny European country of Spain where yours truly was guiding Scotty Gardiner around the hallowed turf of not one, but two, of the most famous courses in the L'Estartit area (1.5 hours North of Barcelona). The advice I gave him on club selection, wind direction, ground moisture content, humidity, green speed, grass texture and pollen count proved invaluable as he unfortunately missed the cut by 2 and set sail for the Aussie Open and warmer climes! In between honing Scott’s game to a razor sharp point and watching all 6 episodes of the Office again (+ the extras that came with the Dvd's) I occasionally found the time to wander down to the beach ... read more

We had a one day tour to Barcelona, Spain. We took a train from Valencia and it was a sight while traveling along the Mediterranean Sea. We rode the tour bus and went around Barcelona for a day. I liked Barcelona too. Wished we stayed one more day but we had to go back to Paris and we had a full week ahead of us - Lourdes, Versailles, Rome and Florence! ... read more
