Picking up from where we left off last episode: Our dinner party grew to 9 and we had a great tapas dinner. Tapas originated not too long ago, when bartenders started putting plates on tops of drinks to keep bugs out. Later, they began to put small snacks on the plates. Now, it has evolved into a sort of buffet style dining where they count your toothpick to charge you. It was a lot of fun. The next day, we went to the train station to book my ticket to Madrid and then met the group for Sunday dinner (lunch). I can´t remember the name of the dish, but it is a VERY large pan with rice and typically seafood. I ate of lot of seafood that meal! We then had another siesta (it´s the only ... read more

So we got out of Pamplona in one piece, had to hire a car cos all the trains to Barcelona were full for the next few days but it worked out well. We met up with Dani, a good friend of mine who I met in Argentina last year, and also Debs and Anna-Marie turned up from Vigo so all of sudden we had a pretty big group, boosting around the streets of Barcelona on rented bicycles checking out a few of Guadi's famous buildings, and trying to take out pigeones along the way (Tim was the only one who connected). We've also had plenty of beach time, I cuaght up with Silvia who i met at the same time as Dani last year, and now we're all off up to Cadaquez where she's got a ... read more

Just a quick summary of my three days in Barcelona: -Dan and I had the coldest, tastiest beer ever at Park Guell (yes, Gaudi's park is bright and bold and interesting, but the beer at the end of that sweltering hot day is what I'll remember most). -I finally got my credit cards; Busabout had forwarded them on to the hostel. -Dan and I are not staying at the same hostel here; rather, I am in a room with 3 Aussie guys and a bunch of other strangers. I hate being separated from him, because when I'm standing alone on the street waiting for him, I get catcalled and it makes me kinda nervous. -We did a fantastic Spanish cooking class at Travel Bar (on a street just off La Rambla), where we learned to make ... read more

Being an architecture student I mcannot help but dedicate this blog to Guadi - the Barcelona Master. For those of you who don't know much about this bloke here is just some of his work... for the full spiel go to Gaudi The genius of Gaudi´s work, namely the Sagrada Familia is that he designed the building in suspension and built it in compression (refer to photo). ... ok.... i think thats enough for now. Enjoy :)... read more

Bacelona is amazing!!! Lyndall picked me up from the airport alittle late because I missed my flight from Madrid. Dont know how I managed to do that.... Lyndall and Christian took me on some of the highlights of Barcelona. All the great foods and buildings were stunning. Saturday we ventrued to Sitages, nice small tourist town about an hour out of the city. It was really cool. Then since it was the weekend, we headed out to party at one of the most popular clubs in town. All spunked up, we hit the dance floor. Lyndall and I worked the room, with our moves. And yes, so podium action was seen. There little spanish apartment was so close to everything we could walk everywhere. Sunday was fillied into a very quick tour of the famous apartments, ... read more

I awoke this morning again to church bells from the Catedral de Barcelona. Except this time they were Sunday mass bells and went on for a long time before and after the service. I felt refreshed, ready to start our final day in Barcelona, and grateful that Nick had talked me out of going to the clubs again. After checking out of our hostel, we had a quick but delicious coffee, peach juice, and croissant breakfast. Barcelona blessed us with our first totally sunny day since we'd arrived in Europe over a week ago. The weather was perfect for our last day in the city. We decided we should at least see one cathedral while we were in the city, so I figured why not the one that had woken me up the past two mornings. ... read more

So there was no running with the bulls. After Dan and I arrived at the Barcelona airport in Girona on Thursday night, we checked all the possible trains, buses, and rental cars that could take us to Pamplona. All were either booked or way too expensive. So we made the executive decision to stay in Barcelona until Sunday. It was quite an easy decision, really, in view of the events in London. I personally received a number of emails from concerned friends and family. So… ‘thank you.’ I was even surprised to seem my name picked up on the AP Wire. In a nutshell… Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. It was quite nerve-racking to arrive in a city where we had no hostel or hotel reservations in what I’m ... read more

Got up really late again today. There´s just something about Barcelona that inspires laziness and seduces me back to my nocturnal schedule. I did drag myself out eventually though, and up quite far to Parc Güell. I´m kind of thinking that I should have visited the Gaudi museum, just to get the slightest inkling of what the man was like, because his creations are just out of this world. My head spins trying to imagine what the place would be like had he actually finished it (Parc Güell was originally meant to be a cutting edge urban community, but the project scuttled due to lack of funds). Even with just the few buildings currently there, I expect smurfs to pour out the curvey windows or doors. Having seen his domestic creations, you realize that Sagrada Familia ... read more

I awoke this morning to the soothing sound of the bells at La Catedral de Barcelona and a massive hangover. I somehow managed to keep count of the tolls well enough to realize it was 11 and we needed to get up and pay for the next night. After showers and lunch, we headed to Barcelona’s Arc de Triomf to take some pictures and have a walk through the park to the see the cascading fountains and go through the zoo. The fountains were absolutely gorgeous and were a welcomed surprise in comparison to what we’d expected. And the park was full of birds, gardens, families, affectionate couples, and more outdoor cafés. Our hangover having not subsided one bit, and being pretty tired, we decided to skip the zoo and hop on a double decker tour ... read more

Slept in embarassingly late today, in good part because I was out rather late last night. I went out with a couple of people I bussed in with, and didn't get back to my room until 3am, and I left early. Two of the girls had picked up Spanish....tourguides and were in the mood for some dancing. After the four glasses of sangria and glass of champagne I had polished off, I had the wisdom to call it a night. I was still a bit tired this morning (or afternoon rather), and was sorely tempted to just jump on the bus turistic, which takes you to all the stop in a hop on/hop off manner for about 20 euros. My independent streak won out however, and I ended up getting a metro travelcard (2 days for ... read more
