Hola Amigos! I have finally found me a hard drive and i bought another camera (with a case). Barcelona rocks!!! Its by far the best city i have been to...although i heard some stories about Ibiza...but will believe it when i see it. A city thats alive, close to the beach (i got the burn to prove it) and happening clubs that dont get goin till 1 am. Do these people sleep here? Probably not...they take midafternoon naps, something we need in the states! My days here are spent on the beach, gazing over countless number of topless women (better than france), and listening to the incessant amount of indian peddling "Agua, Fanta, Cerveza, Cold Beer" (w/ indian accent). But anyways enough about the topless women, wait what am i saying....forget the last part. Las Ramblas, ... read more

'hello...so Barcelona has come and gone, Nick and I had a blast. Saw lots of the town using the Bus Turistica. The favorites were the Parc Guell, Sangrada Familia (Both Guadi works) Just crazy, the Spainards are amazing, still working like madmen on this project which should be completed by 2030. We have a whole memory stick of photos up in the hotel, so here are some from the last places we visited. We took the train down to Port Aventura this morning and are in a nice hotel at the moment with a swimming pool very close to the park. Tomorrow we will try to hit up as much of the park as we can, Nick wants to do all the crazy rides, I'll see which ones I try. Definitely not the vertical drop one ... read more

It's been a while TravelBlog! The internet has been quite sporadic lately and well I've been keeping busy and all. Only 3 more weeks here! Monday I painted the entry hall boy oh boy does it ever look good. Last Tuesday I had some time off so I went to the Barcelona Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Europe. It was okay. It was expensive and after the Monterrey Aquarium everything else is just anticlimatic. Nice shark tunnel and it's a lovely walk from La Rambla. I stopped by the big market called La Boqueria and I found some nori for 4.50 Euros. Still too much :( Somewhere in the middle of last week I decided I needed to meet some foreigners so Friday I went out with a bunch of people from everywhere except Spain and ... read more

I greet you all from the brutal heat of a Barcelona Summer. Before I start talking about Barcelona, I will update you on the end of Rome and Madrid. We spent a day at the Vatican, visiting St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. We also saw Pope John Paul's tomb in the Papal catacombs, and it was really inspiring watching all these pilgrims from all over the world break down in tears at the sight of his headstone. St Peter's Basilica is absolutely stunning, both in its scale and its ornate architecture and decorations. It is massive and gorgeous, with paintings and statues lining the walls of its massive Cathedral. I really don't have enough superlatives to describe it so I will say, as the sign outside did, that it is the Greatest Church in ... read more

So today is my last full day in Spain, I leave for the UK tomorrow, and it rains. The day is not cold, but dawn was cloudy, and the sky dark, you could smell rain in the air. Felt a bit humid like Auckland. Went to the Parc Güell, and what a difference going there at 830am on a Monday morning makes, hardly anyone arround. Later ... Luckily had my best Peruvian raincoat because it started to rain. This did not seem to deter either the locals or tourists on the streets, still seemed pretty crowded, especially La Rambla. Went to San Josep Market, the colours of the fruit and vegetables were great on a gray day. Also took a side street off La Rambla in search of another market, San Antoni Market, which is even ... read more

Hi everyone! We're still in Barcelona and it's been really hot and muggy. On saturday night we all went out to another hostel and hung out with people there, which was a lot of fun. Then we went to a club but it wasn't exactly like the clubs in vancouver at all! It was really neat though, it looked like it used to be a huge theatre or opera house and there were these 3 older ladies dressed up in sequins and singing all of these american tunes. It felt a little like the entertainment you get when you go to an all-inclusive resort in mexico. A bit cheesy, but fun to watch! Our hostel here is not too shabby, it's very quiet though, unlike most of the hostels here. Yesterday we went around and looked ... read more

Okay, so yesterday I looked up three or four Gaudi Buildings and decided to try and go and see them today... First walked from the hostel near Vallcarca to La Rambla, quite a long way but at the start it was quite a nice morning, sunny but not too hot, however as I walked along it got more and more cloudy. (But hey, I´m holiday, so can´t really complain.) There were three examples of Gaudi work along the way, Casa Vicens, La Pedera, and the Batlló Building. The first one was in a side street away from the main tourist route so there was no one else taking photos, however the other two were closer to the centre so they had more people about. Took a break from the Gaudi stuff to go and look at ... read more

Buenos dias all, here I am in a somewhat overcast Barthelona, where the weather is a little humid but still bearable at 25 degrees. So begins the next postcard I guess, and it´s from Lisbon in Portugal, only I´m sending it from Barthelona. I´m developing a lisp whilst being here, all my C´s are quickly becoming TH´s. I imagine Catalans don´t have too much of an issue with theophilus the thistle sifter tongue twisters. Anyway, Lisbon was like thus: Scene: Me at a food outlet at the biggest shopping centre on the Iberian peninsula. Me (in my non-existent Portuguese): Hola. Sumo Naranja & Atum Tosta se faz favor (This translates roughly to orange juice and a tuna toasted sandwich please). Sandwich lady: Um, do you speak English? Me: uh, yeah. Sandwich lady: Speak to me in ... read more

Went to the Sagrada Familia, via La Rambla and various stops on the Metro. Amazingly ran in to Chris from hostel in Granada, had coffee with him after wandering around the San Josef Market, fish, meat, fruit, vegetables ... heaps of variety. (However, I saw someone serving fish smoking a cigarette, don´t know if this is typical in Spain for people involved in food handling to be smoking over the food, but it puts you off a bit.) Finally got the the Sagrada Familia, 8 Euro to get into what is at a practical level is a construction site, albiet a pretty amazing one. You also get to see a museum about the Cathedral which gives you some idea of Gaudi´s vision, plans, models, etc. Will prettty amazing when it´s finished. (When I was in the ... read more

Hi everyone! This blog is going to be short but we thought we should let you all know that we left Paris last night and took a 12 hour train ride to Barcelona, where we are now. We slept most of the trip except for when we were woken up by police entering our cabin and wrestling with some guy because he didn't have a passport! They caused quite a commotion at 5am!We're staying at the Gothic Point Hostel which seems pretty cool, but we can't check in for another hour so we're just hanging out in the lobby until then. It's really hot out already and it's still morning! We're really tired from the trip and very hot and sticky, i can't wait to use the shower! Ok, talk to you all later, bye! ~jen ... read more
