Well with our Contiki tour all finished up it was time to split from the rest of the group (most of who left for Scotland yesterday - which is a bit of a shame really as if we adn't have booked Spain before leaving Australia we would have gone with them). Made our way out to Stansted Airport, my first experience with Ryan Air, and jumped to the back of the very long and very slow moving check in line. Finally we got our extremely technologically advanced handwritten boarding cards and moved through to the departures area. Here is where we got the second part of the Ryan air experience where there are no reserved seats and its get on board and just sit down anywhere. Finally in the air and in just under 2 hours ... read more

Sometime things just work out. After the wedding everyone was off to thier respective locations. I however didn´t have a plan. My friend Tim said he would want to see Barcalona. One of the people at the wedding said they had a friend in Sitges which is just a short distance from Barcalona and I could stay there, which I am learning is really the way to see the world, not just because it is cheaper, but because you have someone to talk with and also a local guide which is great, so I don´t even need a guide book. Well it turns out Sitges is having a major festival and I just saw theses crazy 15 foot dolls dancing through the street and the human castel which is a tradional festival activity. Tonight is fireworks ... read more

Okay a bit more time to explain my trip'today so here´s more of the low down. London was a riot, got there Saturday and spent most of my time at a local pub. Then we headed out super early on Sunday to make it to Paris. The white cliffs at dover were FANTASTIC...if you´ve never seen it before, you must go...what a sight. After getting to Calais, France we jumped on a motor coach and headed into Paris. It was about 6 hours with the ferry and coach ride to get from London to Paris, so my fellow travelers and I had a bit of time to get to know one another. The crew is mostly Australian, a few South Africans, about 7 Canadians and 10 from US (mostly Los Angelinos of course, so we all ... read more

Hello All! We arrived in Barcelona using the overnight train, hopped on the metro heading to our hostel which was off Barcelona's most famous street... La Rambla! After a bit of confusion as to which way to head La Rambla, we made it to our hostel and within 2 hours of arriving to the city we found ourselves queued up with a Canadian from our Hostel to buy tickets to watch one of the most loved sports in Spain... Bullfighting! The circular arena, the Monumental, hosts Bullfights every sunday during this season. A show consists of 6 bulls (Toros) and 3 bull fighters, a few armoured horses and a few guys who help the bull fighters when it comes to tiring and distracting the toros using their pink cloth (Muleta) to intimidate the toros. The show ... read more

There were a few really sick people on the bus this morning after a big finish in Paris... 5 people were late for the bus. Two of the guys ended up being 30 min late - they were lucky the bus waited.... We stopped on the way and bought some stuff for a picnic. Art & I got some amazing bread, cheese, ham and strawberries and were pretty much the only ones who bought wine, but hey, what's a picnic without wine?! We had lunch in the grounds of this amazing Chateau. We did coach introductions today and it turns out we have several talented people. One girl is signed by Sony and ones a dancer who has also guest stared on Neighbours. We headed into Bordeaux. There is 285,000 acres of happy making vineyards and ... read more

My first trip away in Europe... and it couldn't have been better! I think Barcelona will be one of my favourite places. It is so beautiful - amazing buildings, food, drinks, people and even beaches! Gaudi's work is awe inspiring (I don't think I even knew anything about him beforehand!) - it's amazing what you learn on your travels!! Took hundreds of photos and here are just a few... ... read more

La Familia Sagranda - Gaudi's great unfinished opus - is a must see for anyone visiting Barcelona. To avoid the masses try to get there early although it's unlikely it will make a huge amount of difference. I went on a Friday and made it there for about 11:30am and I reckon there was a good hours worth of queue for the lift and not less that half that for the stairs. Imagine what it must be like at weekends? Despite this, and the sort of temperatures reached at this time of year, Sagrada Familia is undoubtedly one of the highlights of any visit to this licentious city. It shouldn't be. It should be most frustrating given the ridiculous amount of time it's taking to get it finished (the first stone was laid in 1882). But ... read more

I once execrated to a Spaniard about how I thought that Britain was a filthy place, that it was screwed up in the way many of it's citizens were quite content to disregard their environment and foul it profligately with their refuse. I put it to him that this was one of the real reasons why I would never consider myself a patriot, because I could never have empathy with a nation that for it's physical environment did not give a good God damn. And then he told me that if I thought London was bad then I should visit Barcelona. This was about 6 years ago and London has actually cleaned up it's act a bit since then (Hounslow's still shockingly filthy mind). What's also happened since is that I've visited enough foreign countries to ... read more
