Before we all get started on this one. Take a moment to checkout the map to the left. It was the route taken for my month in Spain. Just click on it. Kinda neat. Well my flight back to England was out of Barcelona. Did that on purpose so that I could see a friend and visit some things that I missed last time. Plus, it's just a cool place to be. Took an over-night train from Cadiz and arrived in Barce in the morning. Met Gema and she was kind enough to put me up for the night so that I could catch my flight the next day. A nice place to sleep is a rare thing at times. For those of you who don't know, Gema is a very accomplished painter and an old ... read more

Hello Everyone! After Morocco we took our night train to Madrid and planned continuing straight on to Barcelona, but the train was full so we were stuck in Madrid for the day and had to take a night train to Barcelona. The great thing with having a few extra hours in Madrid was that we were able to go to the Reina Sofia Museum with Picasso’s Guernica (YEAH!) bad thing was we were going to take two night trains in a row. After waiting in the train station for two ridiculous hours to reserve the our ticket (long story, but was totally ridiculous), we were off to the Reina Sofia to see one of my favorite paintings. We have owned a print of Guernica for many years, but I wasn’t ready for what I saw…it was ... read more

Well, I did a bit of a jig whilst carrying my pack down the gang plank in Tangier on Sunday morning. Whilst I really loved my visit to Morocco, I was excited about returning to Spain. Uneventful fast ferry trip, booked my overnight train ticket to Barcelona via Bobadilla (where is that you may well ask? Answer, somewhere between Cordoba and Granada according to my GPS), and wandered around a very quiet Algeciras. Afterall, it was Sunday and nothing was open. Got to Barcelona at about 10 am Monday morning. As usual, had failed to pre-book any accommodation and, as has been usual to this point, this did not end up presenting a problem. Before I even made it to the tourist information counter at the train station, cheap accommodation, including the bus number etc, had ... read more

Geo: 41.3879, 2.16992From Malta we flew to Barcelona via Rome, yet another long day of travelling. Had time to spend an interesting evening strolling La Rambla. After choosing a cafe a little way down the street Andrew asked for a large beer and ended up with a litre, we thought this only happened in Germany but turned out to be the norm. So after a little food and plentiful liquid lubrication we proceeded to check out the wierd and the wonderful on the most popular street in Barcelona and made our way down to the waterfront where the intoxicationg smell of fresh cooked crepes and waffles tempted me to indulge. While enjoying my banana crepe we noticed the full moon rising over the marina and watched everyone stop to watch the spectacle of the reflection of ... read more

Yes, a while since the last blog, but I figured it better to wait until both a) I had something to write about, and b) I had free internet (ie at adam's place) on which to write. That plan back-fired when adam wouldn't let me near the computer cos he wanted to play online poker, so i'm using the free internet in my hostel in budapest, but i'll do the hungary blog at another date. well the flight from Bangkok to London was fairly uneventful, but as soon as i got off the plane I promptly lost my cellphone, which made for mild hysteria at heathrow, but i made it to paddington station to meet adam and even got my phone back from this lovely old(ish) man who had picked it up. I can't say that ... read more

As expected, I have not had as much internet access here traveling around Spain and the internet cafes do not seem to have caught on to wireless internet access, so I have to type on their computers. I´ve written a few entries on my laptop and in my journal that I´ll just paste on to the blog when I get a chance. At any rate, I have been a bit more immersed in everything since I left the chateau; actually, a lot more immersed, which has led to a bit of culture shock. What is shocking for me is not the language or the even the stress of arriving at new cities literally knowing nothing. Both in Bilbao and here in Barcelona, Mat and I got off the bus and looked at the maps to find ... read more

Today we decided to visit El Corte Ingles (a giant department store like Maceys) where we had a very nice lunch at the top we a scenic view out the window, then walk along Las Ramblas, a boulevard crammed with stores, booths, entertainers, and lots of other people. Most of the entertainers were the "living statue" type, something that seems to be taking hold in alot of the tourist spots. People suit up as some character (anything from a knight, to a goddess, to the creature from Alien), usually all one color as if made of gold, bronze, or silver, and even paint their faces, hands, and hair to match. Some of them will stand perfectly still for several minutes until they have an audience or at least an especially curious tourist, then they move, often ... read more

Hola everyone! I hope this update finds everyone having a great summer so far.... I just have to add off the top that I really appreciate all of the emails, it´s great to know how things are going back in the states. OK, we are now in Barcelona, Spain. I love this city. It is truly one of the most cosmopolitan, friendly, enchanting, BIG, exciting cities I´ve ever visited. The people here are so friendly and helpful, and there are a TON of americanos here. On the train from Montpellier, France, the bar car was FULL of americanos, so we knew we were going to have fun here, but we didnt know how much fun. Yesterday (Tues) we spent the whole day walking the city, and this city is Gaudi crazy. When I arrived I had ... read more
