Happy Easter everybody!! I hope you all are had a nice day enjoying Easter and family! Here Easter is a day to relax and, if it’s a nice day, which today is, to be outside. Which is truly an act of God’s kindness since it has been pretty rainy the last week or so all over Spain, even in Barcelona which Ryan and I visited this week! In Spain we have “La Semana Santa” (Holy Week) completely off of school, plus Thursday the 29th of March was a “Huelga General.” Just the whole coutnry went on strike. A general strike here in Spain means all businesses, grocery stores, buses, trains, schools, etc. were completely shut down. (Big surprise, Devin doesn’t have school again). The strike was to send a message to the government of Spain that ... read more

April 3/4, 2012- Today we got up early, excited to get our next adventure underway. Our flight actually left from Ithaca, NY, which was a nice way to start the trip. Ithaca was about an hours drive from Syracuse and it is a no muss, no fuss airport. No lines, no waiting...PERFECT. Our flight to Philadelphia was short and sweet. Our layover in Philadelphia was somewhat long, but we didn't mind looking around the shops and getting some lunch. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase our tickets with frequent flyer miles, so the trip to Ithaca and long layover in Philadelphia was offset by the price of the ticket. After our lunch and shoppping we set up camp by our gate. My mom stretched out and took a nap, while I caught up ... read more

'Ola', from our ‘Final Destination’..... Barcelona! We arrived safely after our ‘cruise’ across the Mediterranean from Italy to Barcelona. We docked at about 6:30 p.m. and found out we could actually walk from the port to our hotel, which was a BONUS! For those of you that are familiar with Barcelona, we stayed at the Euro Rambla, which is situated right ‘smack’ in the middle of La Rambla. La Rambla is the party/shopping/restaurant, happening place in Barcelona. The hotel was a great choice. The weather was a bit damp and cloudy. First real threat of rain we had in 13 days (other than a few sprinkles our 2nd day in Berlin), so I guess we were pretty lucky with the weather on this journey. Overview: Since it was early evening, once we got settled into our ... read more

Oh Barcelona! Beautiful Barcelona and embarassing Americans abroad... March 20th Barcelona is a charming Mediterranean city literally bursting at it's seams with European urban style, art, architecture, and most importantly, delicious Catalan cuisine. The capital of Catalonia, Barcelona ranks in as Spain's second largest city after Madrid. It is not hard to see why it is one of the most populous urban areas in all of the European Union... Lee start packing. My flight to Barcelona started with 50 16year olds in the airport talking so loudly that I could not hear what the lady was announcing over the intercom. I asked if there were any upgrades available for fear of having to sit near them. Fortunately, I did not. The flight was okay, and I think I only had one or ten visions of us ... read more

Adios to Barcelona and Bonjour encore to France! I am leaving the Catalans behind and I think we will both be content with ourselves and I can only hope my French hasn´t completely disappeared. Keep all your fingers crossed!! Barcelona is definitely an interesting city. I can´t quite decide what I think about it: it´s charms are hidden but once you make the effort to find them, you´re blown away. Not by the sheer "amazingness" of it all, but just because it was nothing like you expected and still you can´t help appeciating it for what it is. Like I mentioned before, it´s mostly architecture that makes you whip out your camera here rather than fantastic views or famous works of art. The city got a facelift in recent years (recent being the last 100) and ... read more

Perhaps your path will lead to the sea, Or perhaps follow deeper shores of the forest And perhaps you´ll meet those who understand along the way, Those behind and those before us. Whichever way you go, whether by blue or by green, And whoever you may meet, spirits from the dullest to the brightest sheen, I can only hope, dear one, that your path be straight and true. But if it falters, twists, or turns, I hope you leave it with more than you knew.... read more

Note: All the events described in this entry occurred back in April 2007. For more updated trips and entries, please refer back to this blog at a later date. An updated trip or entry will NOT include a note like this. Thanks and enjoy! The next day I wake up, eat breakfast and make my way to Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. I mostly wandered the streets, taking pictures, however I did visit the History of Barcelona Museum. This museum gives an overview of Barcelona's history, especially in the ancient world and the Middle Ages. One of the highlights for me while touring this museum was to see the actual Ancient Roman foundations of Barcelona, because I got to see where actual buildings used to be, as well as artifacts like wine jars located in their original location ... read more

Barcelona’s like the Los Angeles of Spain. It’s sunny the vast majority of the year. Somehow we managed to arrive and leave in a downpour. Still we were lucky to have mostly clear skies the rest of the time despite the weather forecast. Our hotel Nouvel is warm, cozy and centrally located just off the Ramblas. Robyn loves Spain for their unpretentious meals of tapas. You can get small plates and split things and they don’t give you a funny look here or some of that “French lip”. I love France but Spain is refreshing. Our favorite place for montaditos was just north of the Ramblas called La Tramoia. The best is the squid with potatos (Pulpo a Feira). Ciudad Condal was a favorite too, but best to go at an off-hour, as it gets insanely ... read more
