The past couple days went by in what feels like the blink of an eye. So much has happened I'm not sure I can properly recall everything, but here it goes... I last left off the day we went to the market for the first time. It's called La Boqueria and is amazing/completely insane. They have rows and rows of stands with fruits, veggies, nuts, candy, ice cream, empanadas, pastries, cured meats, bars... I mean just about anything you can think of consuming, and every row is completely packed with people trying to taste all the best items. I'm pretty positive that none of the stands would have passed any food inspection I would have done back home, but everything I ate was so good I tried to ignore that fact. I've come to learn that ... read more

For our last full day in Italy we took the 1 hour water bus trip to the island of Burano. Of all the Venezian islands, this one is by far my favorite. It's much more mellow than Venice but still has more going on than Murano. All of the buildings are different shades of beautiful pastel colors, making you feel like you are in a different world. Burano is known for the silk and lace made there, so that is what the majority of the shops are filled with. We walked around the island with our Morettis in hand and hung out for a while with our feet in the water, admiring the Adriatic Sea. Our day in Burano was one of those that I didn't want to end, but eventually we headed back ... read more

After having to delay my trip because of my nephew's sudden death, I was very happy I had purchased trip cancellation insurance. I learned a few things about the plan I purchased. First, it covers the death of relatives as far out as cousins and some in-laws. Secondly, it did not cover any additional costs to delay your trip (unless it has begun) if the new price is more. Mine happened to be because the studio cabin on the NCL Epic was sold out for the new date, but I was only to rearrange some of my dates, so I bit the bullet and bought a double cabin for a single price. Third, with the obituary, Delta Airlines would change the ticket for me at no additional charge. Nice! The original hotels in Barcelona were sold ... read more

When I returned to Barcelona it was time to change my living situation. I liked to mix it up especially in this diverse environment and feel the different energies. Now better because I skinned down and began to travel lighter with only a small pack. I found a hotel closer to the sea and in the old part of town called the Gothic quarter. Back in the day they had built fortress walls to surround the city and protect its inhabitants. The streets here were super narrow and one would brush shoulders with strangers. There walking was the way to move or on a small bicycle. I would weave and wander through the meticulously beautiful stone mazes of ancient Catalan culture. The midsummer heat and humidity blazed me forward to tapas and or other tantalizing tantric ... read more

A part of me died in Paris. I left it at the Louvre. I saw so much pain, love and struggle in the magnificent art that it had reverberated and grown within me. The beauty and darkness had become a part of me. In its catharsis the artists had toppled my walls and shared with me the raw power of creation. And then I had left that relationship inside the chambers of the Louvre. I visited another famous cemetery, Montparnasse where I paid homage to more fallen artists such as Samuel Beckett and Jean-Paul Sartre, on the way out of the city of lights and had a final delicious lunch. I was heavy. I was overwhelmed with the struggle of the artists and the sensitivity of the passions that had driven to the creation of such ... read more

When the Spanish, female, paramilitary officer grabbed the man's i-Phone out of his hand I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The Chinese man protested that he had just taken a picture, with the i-Phone, of his family at the airport departure gate. The policewoman began viewing and deleting pictures from the man's phone as he looked on in bewilderment. When he tried to take his property back the woman told him; "I am the police. You must do what I say." Oh Really? Welcome to the new and 'improved' Catalonia, Spain. We had arrived in Barcelona the night before and were supposed to be flying out the next day to Saigon via Moscow on Aeroflot Airlines. The first thing I noted when we arrived in Barcelona's city center were the large numbers of government security ... read more

Dear Folks: We arrived in Barcelona, Spain this eve. BE ADVISED!!!!! A hacker gained access to our e-mail address and password whilst we were in Morocco. If you receive an e-mail from Noahsdad with a Google Document attachment DO NOT try to open it. It will abscond with your e-mail contact list which will be sold to a Spammer. Today is the big game. We prepared for our departure in the morning, we wouldn't have time later. Then we went out to see the artists square. I wanted to compare with what we had seen in Paris. I think the artists in Barcelona are more individual and less aimed at just the tourists. There were a few canvasses I would have taken. Next, we wanted one last major meal to see us through the day. We went back to the oldest restaurant, but they weren't open till later, and we didn't want to be late for the game. So we went back to the first restaurant that we had liked. They had a special Saturday menu, and so we got a whole crab each for primera. Then the menu got more traditional. We had a ... read more

We decided to go to the Picasso Museum, advised by my Mom. You wander through the narrow streets of the Gothic section of town till you get to the next section of windy streets where you find the museum. The temporary exhibit is showing a photo story of Picasso's life in Cannes, a ten year period or so. The photographer was a close friends so you see the intimacies of daily life. Picasso almost shows in colour in these black and whites, his life force is so powerful. You have the sense of a man who lived to fullest, always. His pet goat lived at the foot of his bed. The huge home was filled with piles of leftover bits and stacked canvasses, meals left for still life paintings amongst the bric a brac of his ... read more
