For our last full day in Italy we took the 1 hour water bus trip to the island of Burano. Of all the Venezian islands, this one is by far my favorite. It's much more mellow than Venice but still has more going on than Murano. All of the buildings are different shades of beautiful pastel colors, making you feel like you are in a different world. Burano is known for the silk and lace made there, so that is what the majority of the shops are filled with. We walked around the island with our Morettis in hand and hung out for a while with our feet in the water, admiring the Adriatic Sea. Our day in Burano was one of those that I didn't want to end, but eventually we headed back to Murano to have a our last dinner in Italy together. We went to a restaurant we just stumbled upon and decided to go in because we thought the menu looked good. It was called B Restaurant and was exactly what we wanted for our last meal. We had some unbelievable calamari, spicy shrimp pasta and tiramisu for dessert. Our wine was a Shioppettino that
I would compare to a full bodied Pinot Noir and it was perfect with our pasta. After dinner some friends we met on Murano took us on a boat ride through some of the canals, which was a great way to experience the island in a different way before we left. The next day we woke up early because we had a pretty significant journey ahead of us. We had to catch a water bus to Venice, get on a train to Bologna, get a taxi to the airport, fly to Spain, then get a taxi to the apartment in Barcelona. It took us an entire day to make the trip from Murano to Barcelona, so when we arrived we were only able to muster up enough energy to go get dinner. Luckily the Rambla del Raval has numerous restaurant options and is down the street from our apartment, so we didn't have to go far. Our first dinner in Spain was at La Reina del Raval and it was exceptional. We had sangria (duh), grilled veggies with romesco sauce and black rice paella. The restaurant was extremely inexpensive and the servers we fast and friendly. We went to bed
early to recover from our day of travel and prepare for a full day of exploring the city. When we woke up, a beach day seemed like the best idea, so we headed out without having any idea how to get there. It probably took asking about 6 different locals to figure out that the metro was the best way, and that we needed to take the L2 to the L4 and get off at the Barceloneta stop. Once we were on the L4 it was clear that all we had to do to get to the beach was follow the massive amounts of people wearing bathing suits. The beach was beautiful but far more crowded than I could have imagined. We literally had to squeeze our towels in between three different groups in order to get a spot. Once we had enough of the sun, salt water and crowds we metroed it back to the apartment like professionals. That night we headed to the Ramblas, a popular street between two of the districts in Barcelona with countless shops and restaurants. The amount of people walking around paired with the aggressive peddlers selling just about anything you can think of
was overwhelming at first, but we ended up really enjoying the area. Our dinner was the same tapas style as the first night, but a little more fancy I guess would be the best way to describe it. We had the similar grilled veggies, a meat and cheese platter and Padron peppers, a very common Spanish dish. After dinner we had our first dance club experience in Spain. We went to Boulevard, which is a pretty popular location, but found the average age to be around 22... yikes. So we steered clear of the boys, but still had a great time dancing the night away. By the time we got back to the apartment it was around 4, but in Barcelona that's actually considered relatively early. We woke up late today but only have plans of seeing the market or La Boqueria, so nothing too crazy. Loving Spain so far and can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings. Hasta luego 😊
