I am very sorry for my lack of updates as of recently, but circumstances out of my control have kept me from keeping in touch with my loyal followers. I would like to start off by saying that the waiting game is over and I am officially a member of the John Cabot University Gladiators. My first game was last Wednesday and it was definitely a success. I am currently the only one of the study abroad students that has made the permanent roster. Prior to the game was easily one of the most confusing experiences I have had thus far and the language barrier is strong. A 25 year old plus Roman man currently has the starting job over me. It is not usually in my character to admit that someone is better than me ... read more

Not much time today before heading to the airport, our usual breakfast at the riad and then we pop around the corner to buy some spices and other goodies. We say our farewell to Mohammed & our taxi arrives. Maroc airport is quite small, we buy some final souvinears and have a coffee (average) but at least the cafe had wireless internet! Our flight to Barcelona by Royal Air Maroc is via Tanger and is quite empty at the start. 45 mins to Tanger and then over an hour sitting on the tarmac, is now packed. Arrive 5PM, our bags take longer than Perth to come out and we find a taxi to the hotel. Driver no English so I hand him the address and he says nothing until stopping at La Ramba the drop off ... read more

"The great book, always open and which we should make an effort to read, is that of Nature." - Antonio Gaudi. Of course. When in Bar-TH-elona the first thing that hits you is GAUDI-A-RAMA! I love the guy, he was brilliant for his time, but there is so much more to this stunning city than its reputation would like to suggest. So it´s cold here, not as cold as Austria, but there is a definite chill to the air... but the sun is shining off the ocean and the smell of the sea makes me feel all nostalgic... of home. But really that´s what travel is all about, to make you appreciate where you come from. I´m currently in a fit of jealousy after hearing that Australia will be having a 42 degree Australia Day! I ... read more

Margaret and I got a late start today but made up for it. On the subway, she was told she was "un Mal Novia" since she didn't want to sit with me. Most of today was spent in the Ramblas, Bari Gotic, La Ribera, and Port Vell region.... read more

Barcelona:Nov 25-26, 2010 This trip was not a great one from the start. First of all we made the mistake of flying with Ryan Air for the first and last time. Ryan air is the worst airline on the planet. So the flight times made it so we were there from Friday until Sunday. However it was really Friday at noon then a two hour bus into Barcelona because the Barcelona airport was in a nearby small town. So we got there a little after 2. Then on Sunday the flight left at 1030 which mean we had to take the 8 am bus from Barcelona. So really we had half of Friday and all of Saturday so we made the most of it. 4 of us decided to go- Pat, Jen, Priscilla and I. I ... read more

So the time has come to leave Italy. It’s sad but true. I have been planning on embarking to Barcelona, Spain from Italy since my first month here. I have had such a brilliant time here with all of the amazing friends I have met. But I have to face the facts, I came out here to train to get a job teaching English so I can travel and be independent. And I am finding a large part of that is learning how to say goodbye gracefully. I am not ready to settle down so Barcelona, Here I Come! I found that I can cheaply travel across the Mediterranean from Livorno, Italy to Barcelona, Spain, a 20 hour ride for the low fare of 30 euros (deck space). At the time I bought the tickets I ... read more

I did take a weekend excursion to Barcelona, though I have nothing to show for it. I became one of the many people who get things stolen from them on the street called Las Ramblas there after getting my camera stolen. Luckily it is covered under traveler's insurance and I had all my other photos transferred so I did not lose much. At least I'll have the memories!... read more

We left Toulouse via a 7 hour bus journey headed for Barcelona. The driver was a slick looking guy, pair of Ray Bans, a no bullshit attitude. I knew he had an attitude when he yelled "what do you want, English, French Spanish?" to a frantic crowd trying to board the bus. I also got the impression he had had a rough day of driving when an American guy, goofy and loud asked him if he needed a second driver, to which the driver replied "I don't have time for you" Awkward. The crowd were frantic mainly because of the train strikes and the poor signage at the bus terminal, followed by the even poorer signage on the bus. Was this bus for Barcelona? We boarded and hoped for the best. The first few hours were ... read more

Monday 25th October 2010 Onwards and southwards again this time to the package tour resort of Lloret de Mar. A slight mishap occurred on the way when we hit a sleeping policeman a little too quickly ( note to self - remember to brake in advance every time ) - causing the pull down bed above the cab to part from its fixing and decend onto the driver and passenger ! Fortunately Max was able to hold it aloft like Atlas whist I pulled over to make a temporary repair. Lloret proved to be less than motor home friendly with parking being impossible even at the half empty coach park at the edge of town where we were turned away. However we did get directions to the only campsite open in town and after booking in ... read more

************ SPAIN ************* BARCELONA Ola! The taxi dropped us off at the first station over the border, Figueras. It was a tiny train station and we were famished so we sampled some Spanish food for the first time. Netty had a long pastry thing with custard in the middle and nuts on top. I had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich but with the cheese on the outside of the bread??? It took 2 hours for the shabby train to get to Barcelona. I read and Netty slept. Our carriage was filled with a group of down syndrome folk who had just returned from the special olympics. They proudly wore their medals around their necks and kept their champion minders busy with their antics. Our hotel was 2 train stops, a transfer and then another ... read more
