So a little background on the title. Ian joined us in Europe on May 8th...today is June 16th. That´s somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 days. We don´t quite need an ark, but it´s rained at least 35 of the 40 days we´ve been here. As such, we´ve nicknamed Ian "El Nube Negra" (Black Cloud). Everywhere we go, they say it never rains at this time of year and whaddya know, it rains! Ian is none too amused by this turn of events but it´s actually a blessing as it keeps thing cool in España Caliente. Say what you will about the waste of energy that is AC, it just seems necessary sometimes. Anyway, we left Berlin on June 7th and as Teresa explained, we had a blast. Started our day by hiking down the hill to the Monasterio de Santa Maria del Parral. A monk (from India) gave us a brief tour of the allowable areas and the chapel. Pretty informative and was probably free, but we gave him a donation. After checking out a couple of other sites nearby that were uninteresting, we hiked back up the hill (phew!) to visit the Alcanzar. This is the castle/palace that Disney modeled their Magic Kingdom castle after. For 8 Euros we toured inside, and I climbed the 152 steps of the tower (pant!). The Alcanzar had a lot of cool historical artifacts, like suits of armor and an artillery museum, along with a lot of fancy royal furnishings and tapestries. We decided that for lunch we were going to take some advice from one ... read more

Hola Amigos I´m seven days into my cycling and time just seems to have stopped. I now beat to the rhythm of the pilgrim. Wake up well before the of dawn (can´t help it - some of the other pilgrims are up and out by 5:00!!) but I try to stay in bed til at least 6:00am. I´m usually the last out the door - the Albergue closes at 8 & I´m gone between 7 - 8am. I ride for an hour or so, stop off at a bar for a chocolate (cola cao) and a wee snackette of something bought from the paneteria the day before. Then back on the road again, stop for lunch - bread, cheese, pate, olives, a salami kind of thingy & chocolate (thanks Philippe for the tip on the pate). ... read more
