It´s been awhile since an update. We are coming down to the last few days of our trip. I´ll try and fill you in on what has transpired. Leaving Paris this past Saturday morning -- thanks very, very much to my friend Jeff there for putting us up, and putting up with us, for 4 nights. Sorry about breaking your sleeper sofa. Long story... -- we traveled to Switzerland by train to visit with Novit and Bianca. They live in a small village just outside Bern and it was really lovely. Sherry and I ate a nice meal of 'game' in the local restaurant, or as they call it, 'wild'. Sherry partook in all of the tasty sides that are typical of autumn fare, as did I, plus of course some delicious venison, which could have ... read more

I finally got to see the infamous Alhambra. I was in awe of how much detail there was. All the walls were hand carved to depict a saying in Arabic that says basically, ¨There is no winner, there is noone better than Alah.¨ It was also really cool because it was naturally air conditioned, there is water running through the whole palace making it cool during the hot Andalucian summer days. On Saturday, I decided to take a hike, literally, so I started walking up the bike path into the mountains...three hours later I made it to the reservoir. It was a lot of fun to see the back parts of the little towns I passed by. Much like the rest of the world, Granada is in a drought so their reservoir is very low. Hopefully ... read more

Oct. 17 Altea It is really a gift to have such time together as a family. It isn't that everything is all peaches and cream (it is remarkable how well Manya and Koby can be getting along most of the day, and then one small incident can get them both to say how much they hate each other and what an idiot s/he "always" is). But after almost two months on the road, there are inside jokes (probably too many which involve bodily functions), memories of favorite restaurants, hotels, lunch spots, etc., and loads of times that entail lots of laughter, or just pleasant strolling after dinner along some beachfront promenade. Surely too few families have these times together and hopefully these will render fond memories for us all for a long time to come. Yesterday ... read more

Sorry about the long delay. Part 1 of 2, I think. October 5: Deltebre Who would have thought that the one night in two weeks we choose to camp out is the first time it rains in weeks in drought ridden Spain? It fortunately started right before bed, so we could try to prepare the tent as best we could, and largely it worked okay. The main problem, of course, is that with no tent floor, the little splashes in the sand off the tent edge fire sand crystals further than you'd think, and combined with Koby's tendency to migrate at night (while sleeping really soundly), some things got a little damp. Thankfully it only rained on and off at night, as we learned in the morning that many rivers could run through the campsites once ... read more

Apparently, Bridget and I happened to name our second blogs the same thing. So, if you want to post comments about her copying me feel free and go to Bridget´s blog. PARIS TUES 11th So we finally made it to the French catacombs which were really cool … literally - it was cold down there. Franch had an issue with having overly filled cemeteries during th 8th century so the catacombs were built. They put the bones of all the people who were already buried underground and kept them grouped by years. I think it was under 5 Euros for a student to enter but it I free if you are over 60 … haha. We tried to go to the Modern Art Museum but of course it was only open to some special group. We ... read more

This is only the first half of the trip. I will post another blog as soon as I find time (maybe tonight or Monday). Disfruten! ((You all) Enjoy!) So Bridget and I managed to return from London, Paris, and Dublin safely, believe it or not. However, don’t let my previous statement fool you- the smooth traveling carpet wasn’t just laid out in front of us- oh no- we had to shampoo first … We did too much for me to sit here and describe everything in detail. So, enjoy my short notes. LONDON FRI 6th We checked in to Tony’s Hostal. At first it seemed scary but by the end of our trip, after staying in King’s Hotel, it was classy. Then, we headed to Leister Square- home of London play tickets (we bought tickets for ... read more

I will make this journal my viaje journal while I am in Granada. On the first weekend of Oct. 7-9 ISA had a planned trip to Valencia, a coastal town northwest of Granada. It was a very rich and pretty city. The beaches were nice and the water was freezing. It happened to be their patron saint day on Saturday so Saturday night they had a huge fireworks display, it was a lot of fun. On the weekend of Oct. 14-16 Robert and I took a train to Algeciras where we got a hostal for the night. There we met an old retired national police officer. He was so excited that we were americans becuase his tio era de Texas. So, he took us first to a tapas bar for cena where he knew everyone and ... read more

Granada Changed my Life. A small town in Southern Spain. My newly acquired Spanish friend insist I go. I go. "I want to get married here!" I shout to my mother on a pay phone in town after having snuck into the ancient Alhambra. I'm alone, tired and never want to go home. I sit with a bloodly nose inside, finally after my third legitamite attempt to enter... Sometimes we have to make our way into / out of / around things. ... read more

Estoy en Granada Y a mi me gusta él mucho. Granada is such a fun, interesting, and confusing city. I feel lost all the time but it's getting better. Los callejones estan como un labrinto. The small streets are like a labyrinth. I started classes on the 4th(mi cumpleaños) and they are going very well. Everyday I feel a little more at home here.... read more

Hola mis amigos y mi familia, Estoy en España. The plane trip was better than expected. The first flight to Philadelphia felt like it took less than an hour (of course that´s because I bought the new edition of Powder magazine in the airport and read it over and over in the plane). It was really rainy in Philadelphia so when we took off there was a lot of turbulence, pero estuvamos bien. I sat next to una bonita mujer that lives in Zaragoza but works in Pennsylvania most of the year. She was really nice and I received my first linguistic wake-up call of the trip. When I landed, of course, they lost my baggage along with five other people from my plane, that was an interesting situation. But, luckily I was prepared with a ... read more
