Cordoba: worth a day’s time Buses Save Money but not Stomachs The cool thing about the bus system from Granada is that you can actually reserve seats on the bus and buy the tickets in advance on the internet. Kel was nice enough to take some time to accomplish this for us the day before we left Granada and got us the two front seats on the bus in hopes of keeping us both from getting car sick on the windy roads between Granada and Cordoba. We did what we’ve learned to do before these trips. We ate, used the restrooms, and got to the bus station a little early. When we got to the bus station we had to actually get the tickets which took some work. The lady at the ticket booth was ... read more

Cordoba! This trip was with my entire program and it was great. We only spent about a day in Cordoba, but it was well worth it and we saw the Mezquita, which is really the main event. Enjoy the pictures!... read more

Hi all - it´s Jess. We started day number 3 in Madrid - awake, fed, checked out of our hostel and en route to the Atocha train station just down the road, with the intention of going to Segovia to see the Aquaducts. But when we arrived at the station we discovered that the train heading out was leaving at 4pm and it was after 11am. So we instead decided to head to Cordoba a little earlier than we were planning and come back to Madrid early so we can go out to Segovia on a weekday. Figuring out the train was actually pretty easy - a lot of the people that we have ran into here speak at least some English, so they are very helpful! We were able to get our tickets, find our ... read more

Hey guys! I´m in Cordoba now and oh man, its HOT! It´s gotta be about 90 deg at least and the sun is scorching! No clouds to give even a moment of shade. There are a lot of shaded plazas though and sitting there under the shade feels great. I´m gonna hop in the shower here in a few and clean up and then head out to do a little shopping. I need sandals of some sort because all I have with me right now are boots, so its no wonder I´m dying! Cordoba is not as great as I was expecting it to be. There´s a lot that is going under construction right now, so it kind of ruins it some. La Mezquita was really neat though! It´s architecture has an Islamic influence. Its really ... read more

Semana Santa is the big holy week of vacations here. No Easter bunnies, no eggs, no Peeps. Just good old fashioned religious processions, prayers, and trips to EuroDisney. So while Blanca and Pedrito went to visit Mickey Mouse (¿Miguel Ratón?), I was free to have an adventure of my own . As a very wise friend recently pointed out to me, only a certain kind of person is crazy enough to enroll in Spanish classes in Madrid for four hours a day. So when some chicas from my school invited me to join them on a Semana Santa road trip, I was thrilled at the chance to spend time with some locas of my own kind. We really didn´t know each other, but ¡vamonos! We rented a car with a big orange ¨Pepe cars¨ sticker on ... read more

My art class took a field trip to Córdoba on February 3. I had no idea what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised with the city. It rained all morning while we traveled by bus, but thankfully the rain left when we arrived in Córdaba at 11:30 a.m. Our class visited La Mezquita, which is the famous mosque. In my art class we have been studying the history and the art techniques of this particular mosque. I need to study a little more to remember all the califas that contributed to the building process, but I finally have the art vocabulary down for La Mezquita! I have never been inside a mosque so it was very cool to understand the importance of the different parts. We tried getting into the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos ... read more

Things here are all good. I went on a day trip to Cordoba this Friday, which was nice. Not too eventful, but it was really pretty. We went on a tour of a really old mosque and a synagogue (i have no idea how to spell...I know). And we went to a pretty nice lunch at this really cute place. On Saturday a few of us went back to Cadiz, a nearby beach city and just spent the whole day doing nothing there, which was glorious. We just bought some bread, cheese, and tomatoes and made some makeshift sandwiches (of course I hadn't even remembered to bring my swiss army knife!). Aaaalmost got rid of my tan lines :-p Sunday night we went to this Moroccan tearoom/hookah bar, which was really cute. We got there too ... read more

Well folks it’s my last full day in Spain and I must admit I’m a little sad to be leaving so soon. I have loved my tour of Andalucia and the cities of Seville, Granada and Cordoba, each one offering something different and something very unique. The people on the whole are very friendly, particularly to tourists who attempt to speak the language. Anyway before I get all teary-eyed I just thought I’d check-in a write about today’s proceedings. Its very handy having the internet café literally in my doorstep and as this is probably my last chance to write until I get to Italy I thought I’d sit down have a beer and write this entry. OK having just opened my Cruzcampo (one of the local drops) I will describe today’s activities. I woke up ... read more

I left Granada bright and early this morning so that I could get to Cordoba as early as possible as I only have two nights here and then I jump on a plane back to London on Sunday morning (25th). Granada was a great experience, mainly due to the lure of the Alhambra however it is nice to arrive here in Cordoba, a much smaller town that moves at an even slower pace than Seville or Granada. The three hour bus trip snaked its way through the hills of Andalucia and Jaen province which is the richest olive oil producing region in Spain and possibly the world. It seemed that every hill and valley was covered with olive groves and the contrast of the grey-green olive trees, so perfectly sown row by row and the pinkish ... read more
