After traveling through 4 countries in one day, we made it to Lake Bled! Instantly, we found out how nice the people are in this little town. We arrived late, but luckily the train station was adjacent to a bar where I asked a random group of people how to get where we were staying and they happily offered to drive us there! When we got to the hostel, the receptionist was equally as nice and personable. The hostel (Traveler's Haven) was pretty awesome too...free bikes, free internet, free laundry! AND, because of the volcano in Iceland disrupting travel, we had the place all to ourselves. We took advantage of the free bikes and rode them all over the place. The Lake was pretty rad, the water is like an emerald green color. We heard about ... read more

Hi everyone! Well, I had wrote a really nice long blog but then the stupid computer deleted it even though I saved it :( OH WELL! First things first, sorry for the lack of punctuation but I cant really work out how to use the keyboard! So, it was quite an early flight to Ljubljana. I had to be up at around 4am and then once my lovely family had taken me to the airport I realised I had forgotten my inter rail pass, eek! But after a phone call or two I had it ;D (Thanks for that Bob). The flight was really good, I was lucky to get a window seat near the front and when we flew over the Alps the view was INCREDIBLE! I then got a bus to Ljubljana bus station. ... read more

“It only takes cursory sample of your average Slovenian’s English to see how badly my Italian sucks,” says a note from my pad. “I could never have had this short conversation about beer in Italian.” Ljubljana Arriving in Ljubljana, it is clear this small town has something special. It has an air of safety and accommodation. I feel accepted and allowed to go about my plans without being harassed. There is a feeling that life is relatively secure, yet there isn’t an overwhelming police presence, as you often find in Italy. I may be the only tourist in the city, but there is a fair amount to see here. Ljubljana feels a bit like Reykjavik, in size and technology. It feels modern and new, much more like northern Europe than any Italian city. Perhaps the newness ... read more

Saturday morning brought another mild summer day. Clear sky and breezes so light the hundred-plus sail regatta on Lake Balaton is merely languishing in place. Our plans call for a drive to Budapest, stopping at Tihany, a peninsula that juts almost four miles into Lake Balaton, nearly touching the opposite shore. Tihany is one of the more significant places on the lake, with traces going back to Roman times and King Andrew founding a Benedictine monastery in the 11th century. A twin spired church was built in 1754 on the ruins of King Andrew’s earlier church, commanding a magnificent view over the lake. The remains of King Andrew (ruled 1046-1055) rest in a limestone sarcophagus under the crypt, and the former Benedictine abbey is now a museum of contemporary Hungarian art. Being in Tihany, it was ... read more

Tijuana, B.C., a 27 de noviembre del 2008. Saludos.

we were making our way to slovenia. after enjoying some beers and crisps, talking shit, listening to music, things can get quite boring specially if you still have 5h left (from budapest to ljubljana it takes 9h). sooo what to do? well, if youre a couple alone in the compartment all the boredom is over if (_______) but be carefull, if you realize that the train is slowing down for no apparent reason, stop what youre doing immediately and put your clothes back on, coz get caught by the croatian immigration only wearing undies and trying to cover yourself with a jacket is not fun at all! well…after it is really funny, but at that time, nah! so after that, we decided to sleep and 3h later we got to slovenia at 2am. the train to ... read more

So despite walking a calculated fifteen or plus miles yesterday, we got up bright and early because we had a lot to see before we hopped on a train to Zagreb. First, we went to the train station to get our ticket to Zagreb. Then since I was dreaming about that Mocha I had yesterday, I had to get another! We walked into the main square of the city and where the castle up on a hill was visible. Again, no signs or routes shown, so we just went up and eventually found a trail that took us up to the castle. The trail was heavily wooded and beautiful because of the changing leaves. On the way up, we met a Slovenian lady and her dog whose name was "Funny." She was a mix of some ... read more
