We're looking for budget accommodation, near one of the lakes. If you don't know a place in particular, please could you say which may be the best one to stay at and if it's easy travelling between the two.
Thanks! Reply to this

I don't know of any accommodation but head for Bohinj not Bled. Bled is stuffed with elderly tourists eating cake. Bohinj is stil touristy but less so and more beautiful.

Hello!
I am coming from Slovenia and was recently on a trip in Bohinj. Me and my partner stayed at Hostel Pod Voglom (http://www.podvoglom.com/en/default.html), it is very cheap, right beside lake, but pretty old. We wrote a short review on our blog if you want to know more (http://postcardsfromslovenia.blogspot.com/2007/07/bohinj-2007-or-summer-vacations-in.html).

I wish you a nice trip to Slovenia!

Maja

Really appreciate the tip, it's good to have an honest review. Can you tell me how long you spent there, as we can't decide how long we need? And did you visit Lake Bled from Bohinj or is it best to do that separately? Reply to this

This time we were there just for the weekend (3 days), but it was our second trip to Bohinj this year (previous lasted 4 days). I think the length mostly depends on your preffered activities, since Slovenia is a very small country and all the sightseeing can be done very quickly.
Bohinj is really nice place to relax, enjoy the natural beauty and great for outdoor sports activities (cycling, walking, paddling on the lake), also f.e. hostel I mentioned last time (http://www.hostel-podvoglom.com/) offers activities like rafting, canyoning, high ropes course if you are more of an adrenalin lover. In Bohinj you should deffinitely take time to visit waterfall Savica, go walking around the lake and the sorroundings (korita Mostnice) and maybe even go on one of the sorrounding mountains to take a great view of the lake. Whenever we go to spend our holidays in the Gorenjska region we preffer to stay in Bohinj rather than Bled (btw on our previous trip we stayed at Penzion Gašperin, which is laso great, nice, clean, new, 10-15 min walking from the lake, see: http://www.bohinj.si/gasperin/en/opis.htm). Bled is more populated and touristly, though if you go out a lot (in the evening) it is probably more convenient to stay in Bled than in Bohinj.

To answer the second part of your question: Bled is on the main road to Bohinj so we just stopped in Bled on our way home (Bled is a very popular place for Sunday trips in Slovenia so we go there often for just one day). If you have a car then traveling between both is very easy (takes around half an hour), so wherever you stay it should be easy to make a trip to the other. I am not sure how is with buses and trains, but I think there are good connections and it shouldn't present a big problem (check timetables for bus: http://www.ap-ljubljana.si/eng/index1.php).

Hope you will find information useful!

Maja

p.s. Just to mention in case you decide to stay in Hostel Pod Voglom - it is situated 1,5 km away from the Ribčev Laz village, where the store, post office, tourist office and other facilities are so you have to walk a little.
