July 31, 2015 - (afternoon) - I took the 3:30pm train to Brasov, and it took an hour. At the train station I had to get a bus to town, and when I arrived in town, I met Markus, a Swedish guy also trying to find our location on the map. We found it and walked together to my hostel. He had nowhere to stay yet, so he tried my place. It was just starting to rain. The woman told him there were no places left so he headed out. She also told me she had no record of my reservation and that there were no beds free. I showed her the emails I had from her colleague to the contrary. It was the first of many disappointments in Boemia hostel. She talked to her boss ... read more

It's been a while ... We've been so busy recently that I haven't had time to update you, sorry. So after Prague we drive to Vienna, it was a pretty painless drive and the roads were scenic. Vienna was much better than we thought it was going to be, we had a guided tour from a couple of Joss' friends and managed to find enough time to see all of the main sights in a day. We then went to Jason's uncles house for a lovely meal which was very welcome (and very tasty). Then came another trouble free drive to Budapest. A soak in a traditional spa was in order that evening. The evening entertainment was a pub crawl to some traditional bars, meeting fellow travellers along the way. A great night, and not such ... read more

Staying such a relaxing place we were in no hurry to set off to Bran, only just over a 2 hour drive to our next stop just outside of Bran, where the history Castle of Dracula's although there never was a Dracula and Stoker Bran never actually saw the castle. It is however a well preserved Castle and a national landmark of Romania. It is one of the most beautiful castles that I have visited in Europe, the tour is self guilded which allows you to take your time to visit all of the gounds without being rushed. You must make an appointment time to enter, then you are on your own. We stayed at a lovely family pension, with our own suite but shared the kitchen and dining room with the other guest, because it ... read more

Day 3 of our stay in Romania, it is still stinking hot and humid. I had many adventures planned to do while we were here but it is difficult to go off hiking and exploring in +33C tempatures with our older dog. So we settled on a day trip into the city of Sibiu only about 20 minutes away. What a lively city Sibiu is, hustling , bustling fun place. It is one of the most charming places to visit in Europe. it is an anicent walled city, with the defence structures are still in excellent condition. We love to wander the old streets discovering every nook and cranny, jammed full of Romania heritage. Even though it was hot we managed to stay reasonably confortable in the air conditioned building, most shop keeper where very friendly ... read more

So we are off to discover Romania, and very thankful that we did not drive any later than we did, as the was road work every where. Sometimes on the left side, then switch over and construction on the right side, oh and then 1/2 the road was completely gone! A little unnerving but again we had driven through Albania so we are ready for anything. It took us over 6 1/2 hrs to do a 4 hour drive to our next destination, a lovely little Pension in a village just out side of Sibiu. We had hoped to stop along the way at Bethlen Castle as recommended by friends but between the heat and the extended drive we passed it up for another time. We did how ever, after a little searching in the village ... read more

On July 21st continued on our adventure across Hungary to Romania, still very hot, still very humid but we are all comfortable easy roads throughout Hungary. It should have been roughly a 4 1/2 hr drive to our first nights stop. We could probably made it further but we don't know what the roads are like in Romania I had read that there was a lot of construction and don't really want to chance it in the dark. As it turns out we were delayed at the boarder for over 45 minutes, not sure why, no reason given, which we have to accept and carry on. But did notice at the boarder there was a Canadian flag, which I thought odd to see. Oradea's building is a mix of Communist era boring block apartment style building, ... read more

Alpine roads, country roads and long and winding roads To travel in Romania using only public transport would be quite a challenge. Many towns and villages are not serviced by any busses or trains at all. We therefore decided to rent a car to simplify things for us. We know now that if we hadn't had our own transport we would not have been able to visit even a third of the places we went to. Since it is difficult to travel if you don't have a car it is common among the locals to hitchhike. Twice we actually picked up hitchhikers ourselves. One of them offered to pay for the ride. We knew that it is common practice that the hitchhiker pay the equivalent of a bus ticket to the driver so we weren't surprised. ... read more

From Vlad the Impaler to Nicolae Ceausescu Romania has over the years had its fair share of unpleasant rulers. Ruthless dictators all over the world seem to have two things in common: they like to torture people and tend to have a liking for erecting big buildings as monuments over themselves. In Romania things aren't much different from any other places. Hence there are a few palaces and castles around and we would now like to write about the ones we visited. Bran Castle Bran Castle is likely the most well known of the Romanian castles and palaces thanks to it being the home of the largely fictional character Count Dracula in the Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Having seen Bran Castle we must say that using that particular castle as setting for the novel was wise. ... read more

Check out v pohode ,platba kartou. Zistene ,ze recepcna je nakoniec majitelka, prave jej robili manikuru. Vlak do Sighisoari nam ide az o 13/20, tak smer lanovka na vrch Tampa. U Gigiho kupujeme plnene pecivo (makove a hribove). Prichadza k nam maly pes, hadze sa mu trochu peciva s hribami. Od lanovky ... read more

Mensie obzeranie stanice, nic extra, stanica z roku 0.
