14 Sept 2008 As is often the case, a boys' eyes are bigger than his stomach, and that proved to be the case for both boys last night. Liam and Joseph each had a chocloate sunday after a hot chocolate drink (they were completely chockiffied). Ky had a type of pav/meringue that was extraordinarily sweet, while I had chocolate profiteroles. But the 14th being Sunday, it was our day to depart from Cavallino and make our way to an area north of Ravenna for our next stay. due to having to checkout early, and not checkin at Camping Tahiti until 4pm, we opted to drive via Verona and visit that city. More rain again today, but it eased by afternoon. Verona! Well, after the usual little tiki tour around the central streets trying to find a ... read more

Yay, my foot is a LOT better today! There was a bit of swelling on the top of my foot this morning, and I could feel the liquid moving around when I walked. Gross huh? I just put on shoes and socks, and hoped for the best. After I walked around for awhile, my foot was pretty much completely healed. I'm glad; I really didn't want to have to explore an Italian hospital. So today we had a relaxation day, and let me tell you it was wonderful. Not only that but everyone NEEDED it. I went to bed at about midnight and woke up at 10:30, so it was nice to actually sleep in for once. It rained all day, so it was a nice day to not have plans. A few friends and I ... read more

Ciao tutti! Sorry this blog took me so long to get started. I’ve been a little busy, but more than that, I’ve just been procrastinating. Here we go! So when I took the flight over here, I didn’t realize that, as of late, Alitalia has been going through some reorganization problems. I’m not sure what the problem is, but all I can say is that I think the plane we flew here on was the same one that I flew over on 8 years ago. It had some pretty uncomfortable seats, but I couldn’t really complain. I didn’t sleep much the night before so my numb butt didn’t really bother me too much. As soon as I got on the flight I started establishing some goals. For instance, I couldn’t really understand anything that they were ... read more

So I'm still in Italy, enjoying the hot weather, pizza and reading at cafes. And oh yeah, my foot is twice as big as it's supposed to be. Okay maybe not twice as big, but it is very swollen. Apparently I have some sort of infection from a blister that opened on the back of my heel. Most of the left side of my left foot is swollen, red and hot to the touch. I let the leaders know on the bus on our way to Venice, because there was no way I was going to miss that trip. At least I could walk without too much pain. They told me that if I develop red lines up my foot, that is super serious, and I had to let them know. Well I never got red ... read more

Hey all! I can finally update because the internet is working for once. For some reason my computer would not connect before, but it's all good now. Right now I'm in Verona, Italy, sitting on the huge staircase in front of our classy hotel, drinking some wine with friends. I'm having a very good time. Verona is pretty cool. It's the city that Shakespeare based the play Romeo and Juliet on, but today I learned that (if Shakespeare even existed) he never even went to Italy, ever. He just took the story of Romeo and Juliet from other authors. That is according to our tour guide today. She was awesome; she took us on a walking tour of the city. I really, really like the group that I'm with. There are 24 of us, and I'm ... read more

rived in verona from vienna yesterday. Flight was 105 so previous day I had decided to stay at an airport hotel for ease of travel in the morning...one gets sick of carrying 37kgs around all the time. It was 3 star next to exit 19 off a4 to the south of vienna. 2 orienteerers in the car had managed to get lost twice getting ther from Freistadt..the driver who lived south of vienna and kindly offered me lift from F missed a mway junction about 40mins out as we were taliking 2 much.So taht involved 20mins detour back to mway. Then I was navigating and we knew we were after Fischemend exit 19...we both saw exit 13 and were chatting away when 19 went past......so that involved another 10mins on mwat to exit 32 and a ... read more

THURSDAY, 21 AUGUST I am waiting in the BA queue at Gatwick when a voice behind me says, "Hello, I'm Michael." Before I have a chance to say something really witty like "So?", I turn around and see that the man behind me also has a Martin Randall badge on his bag. Thank God, I think to myself. For once I kept my mouth shut and won't have to spend the next four days apologising to one of my tour mates. "Hello." I smile as I shake his hand. "I'm your tour leader. It's nice to meet you." Wow! Dodged that bullet. I sigh with relief as I tell him that I will see him again in Italy and make my through security. Not an auspicious beginning by any means. I am already a bit wary ... read more

Yesterday, I took a little trip to Fair Verona, home of the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet (spelled Giulietta in Italian and prounounced Hul-ee-eta). Apparently, there were two feuding families in Verona during the 1300's and supposedly they did have two kids in love but who knows! I think Shakespeare's story is loosely based on it and Verona makes a killing from dumb-witted tourists! Nonetheless, my first destination was the Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House), apparently the Capulet's never even lived here though so I didn't bother wasting my Euro going inside. The archway leading to the courtyard is known as the lover's wall which is filled with graffitti of all the lover's who have passed through...I contributed :) ...Inside the courtyard is a statue of Juliet and the balcony from which she stood and was ... read more

Monday 16th June We arrived in Verona around 11am, and found that the hotel was a good 15 minute walk from the Train station. It was also on Verona’s busiest and possibly bumpiest street. Verona is a beautiful small city with a population of around two hundred and fifty thousand. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is based on events from this town and later on we were to find the balcony where Juliet waited for Romeo (I guess a stronger knowledge of Shakespeare would have been useful at this point, we read King Lear and Macbeth at school not Romeo and Juliet.) We hired some bikes and biked around Verona. With the exception they were seriously uncool bikes it was a great way to get around. Traffic is not too bad (excluding our street) and the weather ... read more
