Hi all! I'm in Italy, finally! I suppose to start off, here's a brief story of getting here: Wednesday, my mom, sister and I left Des Moines for Chicago and got to our hotel shortly before 4. We immediately took the L downtown, much more confusing for me than the Metra, but no problems. We arrived shortly after 5, and went into Water Tower Place, where, you know me, I found this betsy johnson dress i LOVE. i mean, absolutely L.O.V.E. I want it for my birthday in Vegas next year! Now I just have to find the money. We left WTP shortly after and headed to Navy Pier, where I got us a little lost, but we took a cab and made it in time to ride the ferris wheel before it closed. We ate ... read more

so done with trip i am at point of mental unstibility. i was on my way to rome and had to switch trains in verona, but when i went to make the reservation the person in front of me got the last seat and now they are on strike(only for 24 hours ). and on top of that when i tried to get a hold of someone my phone died, then i found out there are no outlets in the train station, then noone spoke enough english to tell me how to get to an internet cafe. so i spent an hour and a half looking for a place, then i looked for a hotel7hostel7b&b but i couldnt find a single place that had the night unbooked. i figured everything out but i was already stressed ... read more

No, we haven't gone back to Italy...I simply realized I didn't do the Verona blog. A gross oversight, since that was one of our favorite days in Italy! I nearly didn't go to Verona, because that was the morning that my hip/piriformous/sciatia issues really made themselves known. I was in a lot of pain, and I knew that if I stayed home there would be enough room in one car for everyone. However, listening to that voice inside my head that said, "when will you ever get the chance to see Verona Italy again", I decided to go. So, we loaded up two cars...left Rudy home to work, and hit the road. We made it to Verona easily, but struggled with the driving a bit, once we arrived. We were following my cousin, Mary, a seasoned ... read more

What can I say about being in Verona for two days with only a few people that I actually like and a few more that I cannot really be around for longer than 10 minutes without wanting to cut of my own ears, other than awkward. A weekend spent pondering why people say the things they do and how I could possibly survive the weekend without going crazy. I couldn’t not go to Verona partly because I had already paid for it through my study abroad program and I am not a terribly wasteful person when it comes to money, also due to the fact that I had never been to Verona before and will probably not go back for some time. Overall it was a beautiful place to see, I still like Florence more however. ... read more

So I arrived at the station and then had to wait a half hour for the bus. Vic texted me and asked me to meet her at the Roman Theatre. So I took the bus there and then as I got off, I called Vic from under the theatro Roma sign. As I called I had an inkling that she was near the Roman arena, which is also used as theatre and someone who had never been to Verona (which Vic hadn’t) would easily confuse to two. I was right and made my way to the arena. I asked for directions, all in Italian, and after two women put me in the right direction I was able to find my way from memory. I have been to Verona once before just for an evening with my ... read more

So I haven’t made an entry in about a month, and as I’m sure you can guess, I have done A LOT since Oktoberfest. I suppose the best way to catch up is to make several different entries, and since I’m typing this one on a cruise, I’ll just probably post all of the entries at the same time. With that being said, I’ll start with the wedding between Diane and Fabio Pasquesi (I can’t remember her maiden name). So for starters, this was when I met up with my parents. I met Mom and Dad in Venice, which was surprisingly easy to get to for me. I realize that Venice is one of the most notable tourist cities on earth, but to be honest, I’m not too impressed with it. Let me tell you ... read more

Castles. That’s all I have to say. I thought that England was “the place” to go to see them, but it’s definitely not the case. This freakin country has probably one castle for every 100 people…ok maybe 200. But seriously, every town that we have gone to has had some sort of fortified structure, most times a castle, to remind you that there was a time when the term “built with blood and sweat” wasn’t just a metaphor. These things were just enormous, and the cool thing is that the larger the city is, the larger the walls get. It seems like the cities have retained their size (relatively) since the Renaissance. Don’t hold me to that though, I’m sure some smartass history major will tell me they’ve gotten smaller or something. There are pics of ... read more
