our trip is more than half way done ... i cant believe it! We've been to alot of places that have the sun and beaches on the coast... now we are going north and inland. After coming back from Greece we headed to FLORENCE, ITALY. We only got to spend one night in FLorence. We stayed at a campground (AGAIN) and spent the night playing cards and drinking bear.. not bad eh. The next morning we got up REAL early and headed to the city. Our train to VENICE was leaving at 1pm so we only had the morning to see all we wanted to see in Florence. We went to the Galleria dell'Accademia to see David. The line up was huge! As soon as we got in and saw the sculpture the wait was worth ... read more

Geo: 45.3374, 12.1379Got the bus to the train station at Gredavagno. I had missed the train by 5 minutes and had to wait two hours for the next one. Once I arrived in Venice I bought an all day vaporetto (ferry) ticket. Caught the ferry to my hostel- what a great location, it is across from the Grand Canal. My room faced the canal and out my window I could see Saint Marks Square, etc. Caught the ferry to Saint Marks Square and changed ferry to Burano. 40 mins later arrived at the island of Burano. It is a pretty little fishing village, all the houses are colourfully painted. It makes Venice look dull and bland. Am glad I spent time here. Wandered around, saw a very leaning bell tower, walked along canals, over bridges. Caught ... read more

Vrooming through Venice Leaving Seedorf, Switzerland, and sadly the Swiss Alps (before Bryan could formulate a new plan for another mountain summit) we rode the train to Venice, Italy. Walking out from the train station in Venice, we were hit with one of those round-a-bout realizations... no noise, no fumes, and then the "aha" moment... no cars in all of the city. Across from the train station was the Grand Canal that served as the main winding street with rows of yellow boats serving as busses and taxis and thus marked. It was about 8:30 PM when we arrived, and knowing that the hotels just outside the station would probably be expensive and full, we started wondering the "streets". Normally, I have a very good sense of direction, but with Venice it is beyond easy to ... read more

Geo: 45.3374, 12.1379Maeve and I were at the pier by 6.30, just like the lady at the info centre said to. We were waiting for the Prince of Venice. Meave was getting a one way ticket and going on to Verona and I was just doing a day trip to Venice- because I can! The catamaran finally arrived and after passport checks and buying tickets we took off, 20 minutes we docked in Croatia and picked up more passengers then headed to Venice. It was about a 2 hour trip. As we came into Venice, we slowed down. After we docked at the ferry port, we had to wait for a man to come with the key for luggage storage, as Maeve had all her luggage with her. Half an hour later he came!! Where was ... read more

Our next challenge was trying to find our place of accommodation in Venezia. Not an easy task as the actual hotel had a different name to what we had been told. After half a day of trying to find it, we finally got rooms with airconditioning - an unusual encounter for us, but one that was greatly appreciated as temperatures were hitting 37C. Anybody walking into the room found me reclined, naked, in front of the airconditioner. I didn’t care about the shrinkage factor, the cooler temperatures were worth the humiliation! Venice itself was gooooorgeous and unique with its waterways and canals, most of which I could get on and to via the vaporettas (water taxis). There were literally tens of thousands of tourists flocking every attraction, the first place for us it has been really ... read more

Hi, We're not actually in Venice we think its the closest place though!! We've been chilling at a campsite between Venice and Trieste at a place called Eraclea Mare, the beach is a short walk and they've got some nice pools too. Not really much more to say as all we've done is sun bathe (its too hot to do anything else)!!! It might be hot back home but I bet the sea isn't as warm as the Adriatic, its lovely at about 27 degrees, ha ha ha Off to Slovenia next so will update from there Love Pete & Kez xx... read more

Hello all, The last couple days iàve been roaming the south of french, swimming in the sea on pebble beaches and gambling in the monte carlo casino in monaco. Monaco was amazingly glamorous. We drove by elton johns house, drove around the grand prix track in our big orange bus and eyed the many yachts and fancy cars. We had an early depature today and I just got off a 12 hour bus ride to Venice Italy. We stopped in Verona and checked out Juliets balcony (apparently romeo and juliet was based on a real couple) it was quite small but there was a statue of juliet there that if you touched he left boob it brought you good luck so the boys had good fun with that. On the way to the balcony there are ... read more

Ulm - Munich - Verona - Venice (Train) 20 July 2006 With the idea of maximising our Eurail Ticket, we decide to head to Venice, Italy for a couple of days, before we meet up with our friends Linton and Clare in France. Venice is one of those cities that most people dream of going to; beautiful old buildings built on and reflected in canals, meandering cobblestone alleys where the sound of church bells echo off the walls calling you towards piazzas full of beautiful people, men in striped t-shirts pushing gondolas while singing Dean Martin songs….. ahhh, oh so romantic. Its just a shame that it is so revered because in summer it’s so full of tourists and so hot that I think it’s lost a bit of it’s charm (that could explain why most ... read more
