Posting time: 9:00am Location: Western Union My time in Croatia was amazing. THe time went by so fast that i couldnàt believe I spent 5 days there. In botina, we woke up, go for a swim, eat breakfast, swim again and then a huge lunch, nap for 2 hours, swim again, dinner, geleto in the town for the evening. THat is a good life. I donàt know how to say this. But I love Zvon, Zeljka, Zvonùs mother and their family. They hosted me the whole time when I was in Croatia. Great host and I donùt know how to repay them. I hope I can do the same when they come to canada. Hang out with Zvon and Zeljka were some much fun that I donàt really want to travel to Italy. I wish I ... read more

Last night Eva and I made up a country-Western song, "Last Night in Venice", today is the last day in Venice. We leave tonight on the hotel train for Vienna. Hate to leave the city of Venice..it is so beautiful, but will be glad to leave the crowds behind. God how the natives must hate the tourists even though they're their livelihood. Americans, especially young Americans are loud, rude, impatient and generally obnoxious.I'll tell you all about the examples when I get home. Over here a compliment is "You don't act like Americans" which we've gotten a couple of times. We found a couple of hidden places in Venice that aren't so touristy. Wish we had known about the Lido (which isn't really the city of Venice) before we came. It's a beautiful 14 kM beach ... read more

whew...italy has been hot. but you know what, even with the moaning about the heat, i'll miss it. goodbye gelato, goodbye italian food, goodbye motion sickness!!! we went to the island of murano this morning, and watched people blow glass. wow. i watched this man take a lump of molten glass and create a horse in less than a minute, by pulling and twisting, and bending the glass. i can't even describe it, it happened so fast. some of the stuff there was incredible, and of course, expensive. i think we're both getting a little run down, mom fell asleep on the boat today while we were going back to venice. i am really looking forward to my bed....but we're still having fun though. just tiring is all. so....i'll post more pics as soon as we ... read more

Meolo was flat and hot. The incessant steam clung to everything with sticky fingers-as even the cotton bed sheets were hot and humid. The kids at camp were obedient angels. Ivan and Laurela took great are of me in their home: we ate fresh from the Nonna’s garden and would end the night with country bike rides; 4 story abandoned brick villas littered the flat expanse of soy and corn fields. The week in Meolo was mellow. And then in Venice for 13 hours: i tried not to take it all too seriously. ... read more

Here we are in Venice. No matter what you've read about this city, how beautiful it is, how enchanting, how unique...nothing written does it justice. It's like a fairy land, unlike anyplace I've ever been. Definately the place to be for romantics. Any city where most of the transportation and commerce is done by boat is ok with me. We had a bit of a mix-up when we got here yesterday. There's two railroad stations, the guidebook we had said we had to go to Sant Lucia, unfortuantely we didn't have explicit directions for the hotel, and even though the address given was Venice, it wasn't really IN Venice, not the part in the water anyway..to make a long story short we ending up in Venice, at 10 o'clock at night not knowing where to go ... read more

i can't be cool. we try to escape the heat by going into a museum, and either all the popel who think the same way, or the lack of air conditioning make it impossible. i fear i will melt. we're in venice. first i thought...ehhh not so bad, motion sickness? who cares? i have to say aftre being on the "waterbuses" for the better part of the day i have come to the conclusion that veince is my favorite, and more naseating city we've visited. i'm siting here, and i swear i'm rocking back and forth. i know i haven't posted pics in forever, but i'm here not posting as many as i can in as few minutes as possible. you'll have to forgive me. the trip to venice was....tiring. we were suppose to get off ... read more

1947 h... read more

Venice, the floating-sinking Italian city. Venice's nicknames include "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Bridges", and "The City of Light". The city stretches across numerous small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the Po (south) and the Piave (north) Rivers. ... read more

So we arrived to Venice and looked forward to getting straight to our hostel... that proved to be easier said than done. First off, our directions were from a train station we had already passed, so we had to jump back on the train and go back 10 minutes the way we had already come. Then we had to find bus number 11 to Campground Fusina. Apparently there are two of them and one doesnt go to Fusina. Of course we got on the wrong one and were enjoying the air conditioning and as soon as someone heard me say "Fusina" outloud, we had 3 people telling us we were on the wrong bus, but of course we had no idea what they were saying and we were like "Fusina, yeah!" And they were like "Fusina, ... read more
