Geo: 43.7161, 10.3966On the train from Florence to Pisa, we had first class tickets, but no seat reservations--advance reservations were not available on this leg of the trip. We could not find two seats together in first class, so we settled into seats in a second class section. The trip was only about an hour long so we didn't think it would make much difference. This train was older and not in too great of shape, but it got us to Pisa just fine. We walked the entire length of the train station looking for the baggage room, so we could drop off our small, overnight bags while we toured. Finally, we saw a small hand-typed sign that lead us to a combo lost luggage and luggage storage room. The attendant took our bags, sold us ... read more

PISA Day 53 On my way to Roma I decided to make a two hour stop in Pisa to check out the leaning tower. It didn’t take long to get to the tower and the walk through the streets was nice with a lot of markets out. I arrived at the piazza to see the tower. It is really strange to actually see it and to see how much it is really leaning. It almost boggles your mind that it doesn’t just fall right over. The whole area surrounding the tower is really nice as well but again so many tourists. I hopped back on the train to continue on to Roma. The view was beautiful with the coast and old buildings in the walls of the hills. Everything about this country just screams Italy. ... read more

Pisa is known for one thing. When you hear someone say 'Pisa', you know they are more than likely talking about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Other than the tower, what else is there? Well, I couldn't tell you. I, like all tourists went for the tower. I Came, I Saw, I Conquored! And, by conquored, I mean I took a picture that makes me look like I'm holding the tower up. Yes, that day, I was a tourist. I went with my father after my class. We took the train there and we learned that you must always validate your train ticket before bording the station. We did not do this, and were forced to pay 20 euros in fines. We got off lucky though, she was going to make us pay 40 each initially. When ... read more

We're glad to be back in Europe, and Italy! But all I can think about is returning to my adopted home, Rome. Perhaps I'm anxious about arriving in the city that I fell in love with two years ago, perhaps I was grumpy because of all my Moroccan things I had to lug around, but I felt so-so about Pisa. All we really did after we landed was go to the tower, snap a few fun photos, and trudge painfully back to the train station thanks to my awkward and heavy bag of Moroccan goods, which of all the things I bought in Morocco did not include a belt, sadly enough. It wasn't a complete waste of time, but I can't say that I would have gone out of my way to see Pisa. I really ... read more

Our Posts end up being about Food anyways. The last few days have been full of Learning and not just co-operating...but more so co-accepting...and co-compromise. We have been put in an amazing stand point where we can fight-worry-and doubt...or Be led, and fully enter into the Promise over our lives. Kevin is ussually quicker to put down the swords...but his wisdom and understanding are speaking to my heart strings. When we do come home...when ever it is, we know that we know this trip has brought us closer together and put us in places were we can choose Joy in the middle of less then joyful Circumstances. I snowed last night...and we desire so much to head south. As we were working on aligning ourselves. We decided to experience what misalignment can really look like.... a ... read more

Wow it's been awhile. We've been biking almost every day since Florence in some pretty remote parts of Tuscany so it's been hard to find time to write. Biking through Tuscany has been an interesting experience. On one hand the food is amazing and everywhere you look there's olive trees and fields of vineyards turning yellow and orange. But on the other hand those "rolling hills of Tuscany" are not quite what I pictured. They're actually more like little mountains with roads that run straight up and straight down them. We found this out the hard way on our first bike trip from Florence. After finding a fill-your-own bottle wine shop we began to plan the next few days over too many glasses of cheap wine. Some point in time, somehow, we decided that we should ... read more

The last week has been so crazy! Kuba and I have been biking almost every day. After Ferrara we went to Bologna, which was nice but pretty uneventful. Besides all the meat! So much meat! Their speciality is ham, and we spared no little piggies. We also visited a place that strangely reminded me of an Italian Horseshoe. This bar has served only alcohol, no water or food (people brought their own), since the 1300s. It was also slightly trashy, so we fit right in! From Bologna we went through Modena and Parma, where we continued to eat like beasts. Modena is where balsamic vinegar comes from and Parma is where they make Parmasan cheese. I thought I would loose weight biking and everything, but I think I might come back obese instead. All these biking ... read more

Don't be fooled by the wine prices at the "Duty Free" shop at the Rome FCO airport. I was. Then I got home and found the same wines cheaper in my local wine stores. They also push less than 4 or 5-star wines. A price of 30 euros usually means you can find it for $30 at home. LOVE Italy, but it's become very expensive. Jeans at a Levi's store? $200. Lunch of a sandwich and salad? $18. A shirt? $140. This was my fourth trip to Italy. My advice is still, enjoy the spectacular countryside, but don't buy anything.... read more
