Well next stop was Roma! A fantastic city completely full of history. \the bus ride from Florence to Rome wasn't too bad so we made it into the city pretty early and it was HOT!! Atleast 30 degrees. Our group went to the Colosseum first which was awesome, probably one of our favorite landmarks so far! It was pretty amazing... The city is full of ancient ruins all over the place, so you'll see like a traffic circle that will have have marble columns in the middle from the time of the Roman Empire, definitely different from good ol' cowtown. We basically just spent the day walking around and taking it all in, we checked out the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps as well as the Pantheon. The craziest thing about the Pantheon is that it ... read more

Hmm where did we leave you? On the west coast of Ireland I think. We continued our trek south to Cork. Got there latish but went straight to the ferry terminal to see when the next ferry to France was leaving. Bugga! not until Saturday and it was only Tuesday. Spent the night at a brand new motel at Glenvoe with the idea of travelling to Rosslare to catch the ferry from there on Thursday. On ringing the car hire comany we discovered that they had no where for us to leave the hire car there, so we were stuffed again. Not to be out witted, we decided to investigate flying to France. Arriving at the airport in Cork, the next plane to Paris was in about 15 minutes. Left Emma (Ziggy - for zigzag!) to ... read more

This is actually day three....our second full day! But it feels like I have been here for weeks! Rome did not intimadate me at all! Our first night was in the charming and lovely Trastevere! We stayed at the Trastevere Hotel. Even the graffitti I got used to and coudn't imagine the walls without them. Theres a certain charm within them. The next morning was Amy's birthday and it was great! She opened up her card from HAD # 3 and followed that by a card I had secretly kept, from her sister and father... it was so hard to keep that a secret. That day we ended walking from 7:30 that morning to 10, checked out of the Hotel and found our way to Termini train station via cab...total cost 12,60 euro....about 16.00 dollars... ... read more

it was a blur! so my friend lorena and i did two nights in rome, three nights in florence, and one night (two days) in venice, and it was awesome! serious, it went so fast and we were doing so much stuff that it's basically a blur looking back, but it was an awesome experience. we didn't really do any of the the clubbing or that type of stuff, it was more all sightseeing/museum stuff. which was cool. thoughts well, i won't write too much about it, cuz there's not all that much to say, other than to see these things that i had been told about as a child was awesome. i mean, all of these cities, building, stories, paintings, statues.. before this.. they were just ideas, images on a peace of paper, words ... read more

I was about to post a journal entry last night when one of my roommates came running into the computer lab saying that everyones bags had been broken into so I went running upstairs and my backpack still looked intact, the zippers were still locked shut. But then when I turned my bag and looked at the other side the zipper had been ripped open and my camera and memory cards, cash, and some other stuff had been left in there and LUCKILY they were still there. The only thing missing from anyones bag was a train ticket to florence from another girls bag. Interesting. No one knows what happened, I left the window open and my clothes hanging outside and theres a blacony in relatively close range but the people in that room is a ... read more

Ciao! Well I made it to my homeland of I Italy. I forgot how much I love the country. I am planning to study there for my masters. I love the feel of the Italians. When I arrived I realized how weak my Italian skills were. I can't wait to really work on my skills next semester at UNT. Rome is an amazing place and it is going to be hard to describe the beauty of the things I saw. I arrived at the airport and caught the train to the city. I got to the hostel right as they choose the new Pope. It was awesome because the bells were ringing at the Vatican and you could hear them from our hostel. I got there to find Josh asleep in his bed. He had the ... read more

Today, take your chance to explore Rome. Leisurely discover the secrets of the Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel or simply wander the streets and soak up the atmosphere. Had to go into the city early this morning for our guided imperial tour of Rome. Had breakfast at 6.30, and left the campsite just after 7, missing the train so we had to wait around 25 mins on the platform for the next one, which Amanda was heaps cut about. Caught the train to Termini, then changed and finally got to Colosseo. George had his wallet stolen on the train, so him and Kristy spent the day at the police station cancelling credit cards and stuff. Met our guide at the station, which was acrsoo the road from the Colosseum. The Colosseum looks amazing, it's ... read more

All roads lead to Rome and our Contiki village. This afternoon why not discover the ancient ruins of Rome with a local guide. Later, a walking tour of this ancient city will include the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Got up early for our drive to Roma. Had breakfast and left at 7.30. We all had seats to ourselves on the bus as 14 people had gone on the train at 6am, hoping to see more of The Vatican. Only took us about 3 hours to get there, having a quick service stop just outside the city, then Marty dropped us off at a metro station. This was an experience and a half. Amanda had warned us all about scams, pickpockets and gypsies, so we were quite scarred about it. We all ... read more
