The Dingle Penninsula
Emma with the wide open green background sporting her scarfe. Dingle was great, but boy did we get lost. Town names on our map were in english, and the sign posts are in Gaelic!! Typical Irish. Hmm where did we leave you? On the west coast of Ireland I think. We continued our trek south to Cork. Got there latish but went straight to the ferry terminal to see when the next ferry to France was leaving. Bugga! not until Saturday and it was only Tuesday. Spent the night at a brand new motel at Glenvoe with the idea of travelling to Rosslare to catch the ferry from there on Thursday. On ringing the car hire comany we discovered that they had no where for us to leave the hire car there, so we were stuffed again. Not to be out witted, we decided to investigate flying to France. Arriving at the airport in Cork, the next plane to Paris was in about 15 minutes. Left Emma (Ziggy - for zigzag!) to organise the tickets while I ditched the car. 5 minutes later she tells me we are going to Nice in the south of France instead - that's what happens when you leave her alone!!! Took this opportunity to hang our washing on the airport fence in the hopes of it drying.
Anyway the Riviera is/was fantastic. We were near Cannes and bugger me dead the
Behive Hut
These stone huts are dotted about the Dingle area. Must have frozen there bollicks off living in these. Bet they were glad when real houses were invented Cannes film festival was on. Great atmosphere, but not much to do there unless you're in the industry. Had a look at the humungous motor yachts as well as the fashions walking about. There is obviously a shortage of money in this part of the world - NOT. Couldn't be bothered buying another train ticket so just jumped on a train anyway that took us to Monarco. Plans where well underway setting up for the Monte Carlo F1 race on the 19th May. We also went to a couple of casinos as you would, to invest some money in the hope of winning enough to buy our own multi million dollar yacht. Well at this stage we can only still afford a plastic floatie ring 😊. Found somebodies dream car, not mine but it would do for the time being. After we had done the tourist bit in Nice, Cannes and Monarco for a couple of days we deciced to head for Italy. Yes it could only happen to us - train strike in Italy!! The only train was to Milano and on to Rome where we arrived at half past midnight and booked into a motel just outside of
Wannabe movie star!
You can see by the building at the back that we are now in Cannes. People are everywhere, but that was to boring to show. Rome where it's a tad cheaper.
Did the tour thing of Rome today on foot, as the sightseeing buses where not running because of some protest somewhere - just our luck again. You have to love the driving here in Italy, no one cares what side of the road they are on, or how many lanes they decide to drive in - could be 5 wide on a 3 lane road. All you have to watch for is the cars comming straight at you - bit like at car racing when a car spins in front of you, and then you just guess which way it's going to go - like Russian roulette 😊 Funniest thing we have seen all trip I think, and it happened that quick there is no photo was and Italian Police car driving down the road, siren blasting, but also with a policeman hanging halfway out the window blowing his whistle and waving something that looked like a table tennis bat - crazy bastard but funny.
The next part of our journey took us back up a little to Florence where we stayed at a B&B next to a big Cathederal right in the middle
THE Red Carpet
Had to get security to move some joker call Brad Pitt out of my red carpet moment - the nerve of some people huh! of town. Perfect and just around the corner from an Irish Pub - The one thing the Italians can't do is run a bar!! I guess that's why there are Irish pubs everywhere we go. While here we day tripped to Tuscany and did the wine tour and lunch thing at a castle which was pretty good, but give me Aussie wines any day. On our last day we left our bags at the Railway Station and did a trip out to the leaning Tower of Pisa before again grabbing our bags, hopping on a train heading north to Venice.
Stopped a couple of stops short at Padover and found accomodation there as it was a bit cheaper. Did a day trip into, onto and around Venice including a Gondala ride which almost cost us as much as the whole trip - but hey, may never get here again.
Today we travelled up to Belluno at the base of the Italian mountains and I guess the other side is the Swizz Alps. We were met at the railway station buy Kalebs host family Tati and Riccardo, and I think we will be here for about 4 days to maybe catch
Monarco F1 track
OK this is a boy pic I guess. It's on the very edge of the Monarco F1 track just before it enters the tunnel. The sign is there for us rubber neckers I guess a breath.
