After a good night’s sleep in Westport, and a hearty Irish breakfast, minus the black and white pudding (been there, tried that) we managed to lose KB and Ryan on the first turn out of our B and B! In hindsight, we should have told them which way we would be turning, but as Kristelle waited at the top of the hill, we made our way to the bottom, realised our mistake, and backtracked, only to find they had already left. We did another quick sweep back into town, but gave up, and decided to head to Galway and meet there…at least that was the plan! We arrived in Galway at midday and commenced the search for the tourist information center - hopefully to meet up with KB and Ryan and to book the nights accommodation ... read more

HOLler NOT MUCH TIME TO WRITE but hello, arriva derci. I read a quote today that made me lauuugh: No matter how great your triumphs or how tragic your defeats, remember taht approximately one billion chinese people couldnt care less. -abraham lazlo Thats very important. I had today off and yesterday. Got my hair cut for waaay too much $$, bought some stuff, went to st stephens park, and pub crawling tonight because i didnt last night. Well, last night i had an independent pub crawl. It involved me and some bulmers, in a pub, but then it ended because i didnt really like the bulmers, and it made me feel ungood, so i had some wonton soup which definitely doesnt qualify as a pub crawl substance. Thought you should know. I move in in exactly ... read more

Southward we went into the luxuriant Irish countryside. My mom was at the wheel of our little red rental car and Ken, my stepfather, was navigating from the passenger seat. I was in the back seat with my camera gear and all of the overflow baggage from the trunk - It was definitely a tight fit, but, compared with all of the mini-bus rides I had had in Africa, it was a comfortable and roomy ride. We were embarking on a week long journey through southern Ireland, from Dublin to Limerick. We were following a route that my parents originally dreamed up for themselves as they planned their yearly vacation. I was there as an afterthought and at times a moocher. Dublin’s busy streets quickly gave way to open highways and then to two lane country ... read more

Driving around Ireland certainly isn’t as bad as driving in Australia - there is a lot more to see for starters! But today, we had a bit of a boring drive - through Sligo and onto Westport. We didn’t stop much along the way, and after a quick visit to the Tourist Info Centre to book our accommodation, we split up and went our separate ways. Ryan and KB wanted to check out the coastal sights, while Iz and I were more than happy to take the more direct route, straight into Westport. This is a charming town with flowering hanging baskets galore, a cute little river running through the town and quaint buildings to boot. It was a hot, sunny, afternoon, so we made the most of the weather, and strolled through the town’s streets ... read more

Hey everyone... I just logged on to travelblog to find that they had some server problems and lost a bunch of blog entries. Hopefully they can restore them, but if not, I hope you've read them all already. Anyway, I was unusually busy last month and the days have just flown by. I will try to condense my July travels into one blog entry. July started off with Canada Day of course. We had tickets to a Hurling match at the famous Croke Park that day so we went to see the match and learn the rules of hurling. Afterward we went to an Australian bar called the Wool Shed where we had Moosehead beer and Poutine...mmm... They were playing only Canadian music so we rocked out to Bryan Adams and Sam Roberts, etc. Two weekends ... read more

DAY 1 The holiday started by Bert dropping us off at Teesside airport. Got there well in time and chilled out in the airport, so much so that Leanne nearly cause us to miss the flight by going shopping for sweets !!! Thomas loved the plane and was very well behaved, he did find the pilots voice quite amusing and couldn’t stop laughing. He spent most of the journey just looking out of the window. When we arrived we quickly jumped onto the shuttle bus and Thomas fell asleep instantly. Bernadette very kindly picked us up to take us to Michelle and Derrick’s. Thomas gave Bernadette a picture to say thanks. When we arrived at the house we could not believe how nice the house/area was - top marks to you guys your home is beautiful, ... read more

If you had asked me a month before, “Where will you be in a month?” the answer would have been something like “Malawi” or “Tanzania”. Ireland was not a place I was even considering, yet there I was walking off of the plane in Dublin, Ireland. The decision to alter my loosely formed African itinerary from an overland journey all the way to Cairo, to a quick jaunt through Europe was somewhat of a spur of the moment decision. I had been sitting in an internet café in Swakopmund, Namibia, on the Skeleton Coast, looking at a recent e-mail from my mom, which detailed her upcoming vacation to Ireland. I had been on the computer trying to find a way to get through Sudan to Egypt. The word on the street was that people with a ... read more
