Leaving Cork, we took one last loving glance at Vomit Hill and decided to get a picture for posterity. Once again, it was a piece of cake to get tickets and board the bus to Killarney. Our bus trip to Killarney was a nice, quick 1.5 hours and our Bed and Breakfast was directly (and I mean directly) across the street from the bus station. We couldn’t have been happier, considering we’d had a couple late nights in the not-so-distant past and were eager for a nap. Checking into Sunnybank Guesthouse was simple - Martina Kelliher greeted us and led us to our room. Martina and her husband Brendan have an absolutely gorgeous home - this was definitely my favourite accommodation of the entire trip. We crashed for a few hours and then wandered out looking ... read more

Hey All, another update for you :D So after the Italian adventures it was off to France. Nice was our first stop, and what an excellent first stop it was. There we watched 2 more world cup matches, one where France won! (which of course lead tomayhem and partying in the streets). We also indulged maybe a little too much in the amazing chocolate crepes and waffles haha. Next, we headed over to Monaco to see princess Grace´s tomb, the formula 1 track, the infamous casino, every unbelievably expensive car you can imagine, and of course the harbour filled with some of the most luxurious yachts I have ever seen (Kelly and i considered stowing away on one just to see where we would end up). From there we headed further west to Marseilles, where we ... read more

Today we have seen a lot of the Irish Countryside. This country has really spectacular scenery a lot of the film Ryans daughter was filmed in this area. You travel around the mountains and the coastline along narrow winding roads I must say the coach drivers here really earn their money as the roads are very narrow even for a small car. We are off to a meet the locals Irish music night and tomorrow its off to Limeric and Galway Bay We really love Ireland and think everyone should come here for a visit... read more

As if last night's dinner wasn't spectacular enough, the Gleaneagle Hotel outdid itself with this morning's breakfast. We walked into the same dining room where dinner had been served. At first all we saw was a line at a big buffet table. We immediately got in line. We got juice, choice of cereals (I got oatmeal), lots of fruit and rolls and various spreads. When we sat down at our table a waiter asked if we wanted eggs. "Of course" said I and ordered sunny-side up with home fries, bacon and toast. That's my idea of a healthy breakfast. After breakfast while we waited for everyone to meet before boarding the bus, Gail had to listen to the usual first day complaints: "My room was too hot", "My TV only picked-up one station", "It was noisy ... read more

We were traveling with a much smaller group this trip. Gail assembled a group of 18 people for our tour of Ireland, Scotland and England. We were concerned that EF might merge our group with another smaller group in order to fill a 50 person bus, but she was assured that we were going to be left on our own. They were true to their word. Around noon we had Tyler drop Gail, her mom and I off at the high school. Like the previous trip we met up with a bus that took us to Kennedy airport. And once again we "shortcut" through a very crowded Manhattan then crawled through Queens to JFK. It took us over 3 hours to cover what normally takes about 2. Once we all "enjoyed" dinner at Kennedy, we passed ... read more

Day 25, Friday June 16: Dublin to (London)Derry On Friday, I met up with my new backpacking group and we headed to Northern Ireland, officially part of the UK, not the Republic of Ireland.. This is obviously a tense political subject with the people here and as recently as 1998, there were regular killings and bombing in N.Ireland, until the cease fire agreement.. Quickly it comes down to Protestants vs Catholics, or the British supporters vs the Ireland supporters. Both feel very strongly about who they should be ruled under and show themselves (Derry is divided by the river), British flags wave on one side, Ireland flags on the other. We received a tour of the city from a Catholic, who believes that he is Irish, not british, and actually holds on to an Irish Passport. ... read more

I LOVE IRELAND!!!!!! I'm really having a lovely time here in Ireland. We took an overnight ferry from Swansea in Wales about a week ago now and had a beautiful sunrise that morning that seems to have been a good omen since. We have had only bright sunny days since our arrival. People are like, no one gets a suntan in Ireland, what is going on? Anyways, Carlee and I rented a car and have been cruising. On the left side of the road that is, in a manual, the stick also on the left, but only one mishap when I took out someones sideview mirror and part of my own, oops. But honestly, the roads here are very thin and wind all around, it's really cute. So the Irish people are GREAT. They love their ... read more

Today we headed to Killarney and spent several hours at Killarney National Park, including Muckross House, Gardens, and Traditional Farms. The park encompasses more than 25,000 acres and was Ireland’s first National Park. When we toured the Manor House, we missed the English-speaking tour, and rather than wait for the next one, we tagged along with the French-speaking group. My French is a bit rusty, but I was able to understand much - maybe even most - of what the guide said. One of the things that stood out in my recollection of her tale was that the estate was purchased by a wealthy American as a wedding gift for his wife. When she died an untimely death, he was too grief-stricken to stay at Muckross, so he donated the entire estate to Ireland for the ... read more
