Today was my first day of classes at the University of Ireland, Galway and I must say I was pretty sad. For me this is my last first day of school and while spending it in a foreign country was great, it was a little sad not to be home for it. On a better note I did not get lost going to any of my classes and we all know how much of a score that feat is. I only had two classes today, one at 4pm and one at 5pm. I DO NOT ever schedule my classes like that. I am the type of person that likes to get my classes done in the morning and have the afternoon and evenings to do other stuff. I'm not even sure Worcester offers classes that start ... read more

Today was the first day we all got to sleep in, and let me tell you I totally needed it. At about 10:30am I got out of bed and got ready to face the beautiful and sunny day ahead of me. Bre and I walked to the Galway Cathedral where we accidentally showed up too early for mass. We waited until 12:30pm and we sat through a lovely service. My grandma is so proud? After Bre and Jess and Bridget and I ate lunch at this adorable bakery called Griffin's in Galway City. It was then we decided to go to Salthill to jump off the famed diving board. At this point it was still sunny and we walked through a little market that I will definitely have to re-visit with more time. We took a ... read more

Last night myself and a few of the girls ordered tickets to go see the Boston College football game in Dublin against Georgia Tech. Isn't that cool? Of course the first thing we do this weekend is travel to see something American. But come on, tickets were only 20 euro! What a bargain. So tomorrow morning we are going to take a bus up to Dublin and spend the day cheering on the most American sport there is. This morning we had a ton of orientation presentations. There was this amazing theatre class that I applied for. I really hope I get in because I thought I was going to have to forgo theatre while abroad and this could be my opportunity to change that. I also learned that classes and the university itself over here ... read more

The next morning we had a meeting at the school at around 10:30am. I was still tired, but once I got my coffee I was ready to go. We chatted about orientation and such and then Kevin took us on a walking trip to Galway City. It was beautiful. The history and modern ethnicity I just observed even walking through was incredible. I loved how the storefronts were both classically Irish with a modern twist. ... read more

Here in this small city of Galway you really got some good Irish culture. It has been our first Irish city outside of Dublin. It was a small friendly city with good people. We took the walking tour and learned some interesting information. We did the cliffs of Moher here and it was a lovely day with strong winds.... read more

Using the Wild Atlantic Way as a default route was working out well. On occasion we skipped some of the vantage points that came up. You start to see enough old forts or ruined churches after a time and, at times, we spotted something that interested us off the route and took the diversion; but for most of the time we found that holding to the defined route was working well. The route was taking us through some spectacular country, past sites that were interesting and along roads that, while occasionally just a little skinny for us at that time, were always well within the capacity of our little Polo. This post will cover ground fairly quickly, as did we. We travelled from County Donegal into Leitrim briefly, into Sligo and then onto Mayo passing through ... read more

Sing - that's what we do and we did it well tonight. Beautiful St Nicholas Collegiate Church in Galway What a great concert. Well done Anima. Thank you. We also managed to spend plenty of Euros. Definitely a spending frenzy in a very fun busy shopping zone full of shops and cafes and vendors and entertainers and people from around the world. Most watching the "football" matches. These are serious fans for sure. Off to visit Aspiro tomorrow. Time is flying by. ... read more

We have arrived in Galway. We are staying in a resort by the sea. Today we spent a fun active day on an Irish farm. While the bread we made baked we danced and played the bodrain, milked a cow, played with puppies, visited a bog and yes even learned to hurl. (It's a game!!) Now we get to sleep in anticipation of a concert tomorrow. Midway in our tour we took time to laugh together at some of our "moments"... read more

Well... that was a stressfully unplanned morning. They close most of the common areas in the hostel from 10:30-12:30pm so I kind of begrudgingly set off on a hike... they suggested I join the Western Way and loop around but it was a two hour hike in the mountains and by the time I got near the base the cloud cover told me it was not going to be a good idea lol. Thankfully there were a bunch of giant boulders off the side of the road - perfect reading spot. (Just be mindful not to sit in sheep poop!) Of course as I went to settle the clouds cleared and it was blazing sun... blazing sun is not something you get to say too often in Connemara. I gave in and put sunscreen on and ... read more

Another beautiful day in the nature of Ireland. Sadly, because I'm remote to the max at this hostel, no pictures as the wifi is spotty. I did the same idea today - did half a tour, got dropped off at my hostel, and I'll rejoin the tour tomorrow. When I gave in my ticket the guy joked I better make sure they know what day I want pick-up because it's in the middle of nowhere. (He wasn't kidding. It's the most remote place I've ever stayed. It's a 20min walk from the main road..!) Once again the driver was hilarious - the funniest one yet. He had a comment about absolutely everything. I wrote down a bunch - I'll put them at the end. We stopped at Inagh Valley for some photos as we started the ... read more
