Everyone seemed to ask me, “Was Ireland what you expected,” and knowing already that there would be slanted rain, tractors on the roads and stonewalls, Ireland still surprised me! Within the first 4 days I experienced the true Irish culture…I had told Joe that it still hasn’t hit me that I will be in Ireland and even more of a shock that I would be meeting his parents for the first time. As soon as we landed, I didn’t want to get off the plane and it finally sunk into realization 110%. We drove back to the village of Caherlissakill, Monivea where there are no street names, no house numbers, fields of green, houses lined with stone walls, grazing cows and sheep, ruins of a Protestant church and a village so small that everyone knows everyone ... read more

Hello all! Sorry - it has been a while since the last update - that was Dublin. We have been travelling up the eastern side of the coast of Ireland. We made it through Belfast just to leave and hear of the political problems that they are having - over 700 people rioting through the streets. I am glad we missed that... We will attach a few pics for you. You will see the Silent Valley, Monasterboice, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Slieve League, and the Causeway. Ireland has been very beautiful and we have experienced very little rain. We are now in Galway and will start our trip back towards Dublin tomorrow. We will stop somewhere for the night and end up in Dublin Friday, mid-day. Saturday morning we are flying to Prague to start Eastern Europe ... read more

Monday started out with no rain to visit KYLEMORE ABBEY. Built in the 1860's, this was acquired by the Benedictine nuns in 1920 when they left Belgium in World War I and now houses a secondary girls boarding school. It was rather breathtaking when we pulled in the parking lot. I tried to get my camcorder to tape but no luck. I don't know what what was wrong & it ticked me off . So I lugged around a broken camcorder for the next 14 days with only 3 seconds of video from the cliffs. The abbey looked like a castle, which it originally was named and sits on the shores of the lake. The silhouette of the hills and the abbey was a mirror image in the lake. Just beautiful and so peaceful! Inside we ... read more

Continuing on our Sunday tour, we got to spend a couple hours in the city of GALWAY after learning about the LYNCH STONE and how Mayor James Lynch Fitzstephen hanged his son for murder. I guess you could say he was partial! Galway was a clean, pretty city and it was afternoon, so the streets were busy with a diverse crowd even though we had some more rain. There was a street performer who didn't move for the longest time. I almost thought he was a statue. We mostly window shopped. CONNEMARA MARBLE FACTORY, our last stop had some pretty jewelry with different colored stones. On our way to Clifden, we passed the famous BRIDGE where a scene from "the Quiet Man" was filmed. We stayed overnight in the fishing town of CLIFDEN at the STATION ... read more
