Yesterday, I finally made it down to Salthill for the first time since I have been here(which has been exactly one month and a day). The weather was absolutly perfect, so Sudie and Jenny and I decided to walk on down to see the ocean. We sat up on the diving platform for about 30 minutes just taking pictures and watching. Unfortunately, Jenny's sunglasses fell into the water, taking a dive to the bottom of Galway Bay. She is optimistic however, hoping that when we all jump in, from atop the platform on the very last day we are all still in Galway, she will once again retrieve them. We then walked along the prom and into town, and then back to Dunaras. Then, we went out again later to Skeff's where we each tried ... read more

This was the first unscheduled Saturday we have spent in Galway since we arrived on January 3rd, so three of us API girls headed down to the market in the city center. This market pops up every Saturday, and is an excellent display of the city’s constant energy. I don’t think I have ever walked around when the streets weren’t reasonably crowded (including random times like Wednesday afternoons), but the market was especially packed with both locals and other tourists. (I think I need another term - tourist seems to have expired now that I’ve been here a month, but I haven’t come up with anything better. Oh well.) Anyway, there were stands with jewelry, hats, scarves, and other such accessories - for those who know me, you’ll be glad to know I resisted . . ... read more

Today was the day where if you wanted to get into an english seminar(you can only be in one a semester) you had to register for it. No big deal right? Wrong. The process for signing up is basically the first to come is the first to get. We had heard that people get there hella early just in order to get the class they wanted(technically they didn't start sign up until 9:00am). So, Sudie and I decided to leave at 5:00 in the morning(yes you heard me right). I had to wake up at 4:30 this morning. In addition, we had looked at what the weather was supposed to be like and of couse it was supposed to be cold and rainy throughout the day. I woke up this morning, ate breakfast, packed food(which I ... read more

Finn, our director lady, arranged for a tour bus to come and pick us all up from Dunaras and take us on a trip throughout the Burren and to the Cliffs of Mohr. The Burren was absolutly beautiful. It was however raining(of course) for the majority of our trip, so I wasn't able to see everything to the full extent. Along the way, we stoped off at this cave, and a few of us decided that if you have seen one cave you have pretty much seen them all(plus we really didn't want to pay the like 6 euro to get in), so instead we went on a hike and attempted to climb the burren hill that was right behind us. We made it fairly far up, but never seemed to make it to the top. ... read more

We had to go in and get timetables for all of the classes we want to take. It is a very complicated and frustrating system that I don't really want to explain because for one I don't understand anything that is going on, and for two it upsets me. Well, later in the day we went on a tour of the campus which was nice. Hopefully now I can actually figure out where I am going. There is this building called the Quad which is so cute and old. The rest of the campus is pretty nice as well. Later that night, a bunch of us went to this Pub called Monroes. I have to say that it is probably going to be one of my favorites. It is small and has a big fireplace. A ... read more

Today we all had to go on to campus for a sort of orientation day. It was long and boring. When it was over they gave us wine and cheese and other assorted mini foods(which of course everyone ate a lot of because everyone is poor and for many, those little snacks became our dinner). We went back to Dunaras which is(I am told) a distance of 1.8 miles from campus and got ready for the Karaoke party in the College Bar. A bunch of us went there for a while and watched people sing. It was very amusing. Then we went into town(which is adorable at night, everything is still light up from christmas time, and it's just so cute!) and went to the Kings Head. It's pretty cool inside, it has like 3 levels, ... read more

We left the hotel early in the morning on a bus to Galway. There are something like 26 kids in the API group. Multiply this by two and you get the amount of luggage we had to squeeze onto the bus in addition to all of the kids. Lets just say it took a while. The bus ride didn't seem that long even though it was apparently like 2 1/2 hours. We got to Dunaras which is where we are all going to be staying this semester. They handed out our room keys, unloaded our luggage and we were off. Unfourtanetly for me, I live on the second floor and had quite a fun time carrying my luggage up the stairs. Also unfourtanetly for me, my key to the apartment didn't work. Caitlin(my new roommate) got ... read more

so we left waterfoed on the 1050am bus having to change buses in limerick then on to clarecastle just 2km outside ennis. the couple we stayed with are very religous there are pictures and statues all over their house. they seem nice though, but talk consistently. when they started talking about ennis and the things to do there we jumped at the chance to leave to explore the city. so we went out to the bus, saw the museum where they discouvered a well, well renovating, they inclosed it being able to still look into it. the high light of the entire museum. then to the grocery where we picked up supplies sandra decided we should take a cab again and ended up paying this man 11 euro for only 2 km not even, not happy ... read more
