Well everyone, it would appear that my time in Iceland is nearly at an end. I went to tourist information today, desperately searching for anything else to do. Their summary of my situation was pretty much that, at this time of year, without a car, there's very little else I can do! Not often a tourist information centre will be that blunt with you but, of course, this is Iceland. I've just got back from quad-biking across a lava field and through a geothermal power station, that was dangerously fun! If there's a quad bike going back in England, I'd happily buy it. They can do anything! High point was skidding round a mountain pass, covered in snow, coming down into the power station! A lot of fun, despite the torrential rain which is currently with ... read more

First off, don't worry, I can get home but the flight looks to be costing around 500-600 quid!!! This is Icelandair on a Tuesday, hardly peak time! Lobster trap, it cost me 102 pounds to fly in to Iceland! You can get in but then you can't get back! I'm gutted but I suppose I don't really have a choice! I literally cannot believe it! I can fly back Wednesday with BA for 211 but this means I need to find a hotel for Tuesday night... So much hassle, it's ridiculous ... read more

I've been back since yesterday but this is my first chance to get on the internet. Well, what a greeting back to civilisation after Grundarfjörður! I'd been in Reykjavík maybe 45 minutes when, browsing the music section of the Icelandic equivalent of Borders, I looked to find Jonsí, the lead singer of Sigur Rós doing exactly the same thing! I shook his hand, and then we had quite a conversation, why was I in Iceland? Did I like Reykjavík? He was very pleasant. For all those interested, the recording of the new album is going OK! Then he was off into the cold wind of the Reykjavík street with a little wave and a smile as he buttoned down the earflaps on his tweed cap! I was stunned obviously but managed to keep my composure until ... read more

Well, my apologies first off! My third day in Iceland and only my first entry! I have settled in fine. Just to answer a few questions, yes, they do believe in elves (most of them) and dried fish is disgusting! Anyway, I´ve already been volcanic caving, seen Hallgrímskirkja, Gullfoss, þingvellir, the Geysir field, a massive volcanic crater and just about everything there is to see in Reykjavík! I´ve put up a few photos. I will make a more detailed entry when I have more time and a few less people waiting to use this computer! This is my last day in Reykjavík before moving on to Grundarfjörður (all being well!) tomorrow. Sjáumst! ... read more

Well money was getting a bit tight by now so I decided to opt for day pass at £10 per day and that I was going to get maximum value for money. So I got up at 7am, had brekkie and headed to the thermal pool and left there by 9.45 to get the first bus to town. I decided to head to the biggest museum first- the National museum of Iceland. It told me EVERYTHING I ever wanted to know about Iceland and was one of those cool interactive museums where u could press loads of buttons (ok so Im a big kid- nothing new there!).Anyway from there I wandered around Rekjavik city centre and then finally headed towards the settlements museum. Did you know whereas 70% of Icelandic women originate from UK, 80% of ... read more

Decided to do a tour- the Golden Circle tour as it seemed best way of doing as much as possible. 8 hour tour broke the bank balance at £50, but did get to see a lot and it was definately worth it! The tour took me to some of best known natural phenomenons in Iceland! I went to UNESCO heritage site of Pingvellir. This was the site of the first Icelandic Parliament (in 930 AD) making it the oldest known functioning parliament in the world. It is also cool in that its where the tectonic plates of America and Europe meet, but are slowly drifting apart. I then saw the most beautiful waterfall of Gullfoss, which was saved by Icelands first environmentalist. We then saw where Geyser got its name from- the first identified, but now inactive ... read more
