It's OK. Everything (except the whole "money issue", but I've accepted that) has been resolved. I have the flight-thingy, the Festival ticket, the tiny flashlight, the sandals, the small backpack (Rick Steves would be proud), the cheap-ass tent I can leave behind, the sleeping bag I can donate, the pre-paid credit card and a passport. I also have a few places to stay, thanks to the wonderful people of CS, so I won't have to spent my hard-earned (yeah, right *snicker*) cash on hostels. Now all I need is to get may ass to Keflavík on the 29th, suffer through the flight, find my way via train to Hovedbane, meet the Gullz, survive two and a half days without money, grab the train back to the station and buy the Interrail pass. Oh, and then there's ... read more

No, really. It's in Norway, look it up. I, however, am not in Norway -not that I want to be- nor am I anywhere I actually do want to be. I'm still at home. Now the horrible molepeople who thus far have been my only source of income, have decided to show their true, evil colours, and are doing their darndest to ruin my plans. How? Why, by cutting off my funding! Yay! I swear, if they cause me to miss Roskilde, I WILL kill someone. If not them, then myself. Or you! Could be anyone, really. I still have the flight-reservation-bunch-of-random-numbers-thingy. That's something, right? Right? Sighs dramatically I'm still going, but on days like this I really wish I didn't have to. I wish I could be one of those people who feel just dandy ... read more

Now, my imaginary reader, I know you must be tiring of my pre-trip rants (how sad is it that even in my imagination people hate me?) so I'll make this one short I have about fifty days to plan this trip. That sucks. Sucks so much. I wish I only had three days. I haven't even bought my Roskilde ticket yet, and they say they'll probably be sold out sometime in may or early june. And I'm already broke. At least there's still the pre-party tonight, and since there's a raffle, keep your hypothetical fingers crossed (well, you are figments of my imagination, so I think you have fingers. You might just have really long, flexible tongues. Hmmm...) Anyway. Where was I? Oh yes. I suck. Yesterday was a disaster, but thankfully the kind of disaster ... read more

...or a rough draft, anyway. So. Right. Denmark (incl. Roskilde Festival) : 29.06. - 10.07. Hamburg (CS sort of confirmed) : 10.07.-11.07. Amsterdam (CS pending) : 11.07. - 13.07. Belgium/Luxembourg : 13.07.-15.07. Germany (Holocaust stuff + all the trimmings) : 15.07. - whenever Poland + Czech Republic (more emotional holocaust-porn) Slovakia Hungary Romania Bulgaria/Macedonia/Albania Maybe a quick peek to Istanbul, but I hear the borders are a hassle, so... Greece (for the buggery) Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia (More recent genocides are always worth a peek) Austria Italy (for Italians on scooters going 'ciao' - and possibly to throw a few eggs at that funny old guy with the hat.) Liechtenstein/Switzerland France (For le baguettes and le frottage. Oh, and cheese, too!) Possibly Spain/Portugal + Morocco I really want to go to those funny shaped islands outside F... read more

...with 70 days to go, and suddenly the Noogies announces she's not going. Great. So -again- it's just me. Fan-fuckin-tastic. Well, she's decided that she'd rather rent an apartment, and she won't have enough money to go, so instead, through some convoluted logic, has decided to go to Spain ad the UK instead. I don't really understand how she came to the conclusion that visiting two of Europe's most expensive countries is cheaper than visiting fifteen of them, most of which are a hell of a lot cheaper. Well, nuts to that, I'm still going. This does have several benefits; I can be a cheapass without incurring her wrath, drink myself into a stupor and get molested when I pass out in a park, enjoy a relaxing train-ride all by my lonesome and rather annoyed because ... read more

Icelandic Ice Trip report: http://www.thenorthface.com/na/expeditions/expeditions-2007-iceland.html Iceland: land of sea, glaciers, sulfer smelling water and fumes, rain, snow, winds, whales, lava and, last but not least ice! I flew to Reykjavik from London Heathrow. At the counter, the lady told me that I would have to pay 150$ for extra luggage. On Icelandair, you get a penalty for flying with skis! On United, your skis go on for free and are not regarded as a piece of luggage. Go figure! When the man announced the cost, I burst into tears! With so much back and forth, from Ethiopia to the United States, to Switzerland and back to London, by body had a hard time adjusting and so, at that time, it wasn't much of stretch for me to cry when encountering an obstacle. It paid off and ... read more

Well, my last full day in the land of the midnight sun where the black rocks stand guard against the cold sea... The Blue Lagoon was one of the most luxurious experiences of my life! It was very cheap actually compared to most of Iceland. It was very relaxing, despite the airy-fairy, hippy nutcases floating around (One guy was sat cross legged in the shallows in a sort of Buddhist meditation!). They were like mines full of bullshit, waiting to grind up against the thin hull of my patience and detonate! I did the full works, silica mud mask (twice!), and sat in there for a couple of hours until I was wrinkled like a prune! Anyway, I"m going shopping today. Reykjavik is slowly waking up after Easter Sunday (although shops aren"t opening til midday!) The ... read more

Phew! Thanks to my mother for making me realise my error! I was looking on Icelandair´s website rather than Iceland Express for prices! No wonder they were so high! I'm flying back at 7.15am to Stansted on Tuesday 10th. Today is Easter Sunday so Reykjavík has stopped! It's eerie, ALL of Reykjavík are in Church, there's the sound of organs everywhere you go but it's fantastic for photos as the streets are deserted! I'm Blue Lagooning this afternoon, all being well. The weather is still miserable but it's more a sea mist than rain now. I'll see everyone soon! Look forward to it, I think you'll find me a new, world-wise person! I am, of course, joking but Iceland has taught me a few things and made me appreciate how easy life in England is and ... read more

2c, light showers Forget whatever you think Iceland would be like. It’s more full on, more understated, more touristed and more isolated than you’d ever imagined. I had a fascination with Iceland ever since I had to do a project on it in primary school. The people don’t look like Bjork and the landscape is more Greenland than Iceland. The temperature is not as cold as would be expected, and certainly a lot warmer than anything I’d experienced in Canada. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived at an empty Keflavik International airport at 1am. The first sign that should have warned me Iceland is frighteningly expensive was the hoards of tourist lining up for duty free - even when the prices were relatively expensive by US or Australian standards. There is ... read more
