Don't be fooled by the standards of Air France, British Airways and certain others if you fly them first class across the Atlantic and assume all European carriers are quality. Icelandic Airlines is one of the few airlines flying into Reykjavik (I flew JFK---Keflavik), in fact I didn't see any other airlines parked at the very small single terminal of KFK. I don't have time to go into details now and i'll try and post some pictures later so just the quick run down: "Saga Class" is Icelandic Airlines First class and it is somewhere between a domestic carrier's idea of Coach and 1st class on Sub-3 hour flight; it's not comfy when you're on the plane for 5+ hours. Even though Mighty Ducks II taught us all that Greenland is covered with ice and Iceland ... read more

Parkirale smo tam kjer vceraj, torej pri glavni katedrali, in sle not.

Welcome to Reykjavik. In celih poletnih 12 stopinj. Tja sva prisli par ur pred napovedanim poletom, rahlo zjebani zaradi (ze) casovne razlike in seveda premalo spanja, ampak bili sva pac v Angliji in dan je bilo treba zaceti s - Pimm's & lemonade, seveda.

so i spent a lot of time today on iceland airs fine selection of planes. three to be precise. all with different stewardesses and such... a few things came to my attention as i was seated on this fine airplane i payed over 1400$ for a seat on.. one. everytime i fly on iceland air, the flight seems to be over night. i have a few theories on this involving lazy flight attendants....i never saw one until i got off the plane in rekyavik from toronto that evening....like 8 hours and didnt see a stewardess...only darkness and stinky old man beside me. two. the answer for everything related to iceland, is yes. like will my connection flight still be in rekyavik even though this flight is two hours late? yes. when really they mean no. the ... read more

So, here I am in beauti...scenic...drab and grey Keflavík*. I've spent the last few hours at the airport, mostly peoplewatching, but also being bored, meeting Jesse the couchsurfer, running into Bjarki the former teacher-ish thing-guy, listening to him tell his 2 year old how ˝Daddy once saw Tinna puke because she was sooo hung over˝, et.c. Had Jesse taste Brennivín. He didn't like it. I sat next to Charlton Heston on the FlyBus. I could have sworn it was Heston if I didn't know he was dead. (Heston, that is, not the bus guy.) He was wearing a baseball cap with the phrase National ..something militaristic: Force or Service or something. He was super-yank! The plane is about to leave...and I don't want to write during take-off. *This entry is backdated. I'm actually in Prague.... read more

It´s supposed to be the Golden Circle, but the tour I took did an out-and-back line. I was unsuccessful at finding a better internet connection tonight, so again no photos. I do have some good ones though, I promise! I should be able to add a bunch next week after my trek, since I think I´ll be back in Egilsstaðer (good computers there!) Anyways, the first stop on the tour today was Þingvellir, the site of Iceland´s government from 930a.d. until the 18th century. It´s an amazing place, a cliff backdrop over a wide plain with a lake and river nearby. Before the written Icelandic appeared in the 1200s, the laws were memorized and recited orally every June at the annual 2-week assembly. Some people would spend twice that time travelling just to get there and ... read more

Jokul being the Icelandic term for glacier, of course. I´m back in Reykjavik at the moment, but unfortunately this computer doesn´t allow USB devices to be hooked up so no photos. I´ll try to find a better venue tomorrow before I head out again! I´ve covered a lot of ground since last time. First there was an exciting bus ride along the SE coast to Skaftafell. Some parts of this road were narrow, windy, and crossing a steep mountainside above the ocean. It recalled photos of those roads in Bolivia! Well, maybe not that bad. There was a stop at Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon where an outlet of the massive Vatnajokull icecap lies almost at sea level. Blocks of ice crumble off the glacier and into a lake, where they float around until they melt enough ... read more

Hello! Well, the blog-gap for the past 7 days was filled with us traveling around Iceland. Unfortunately because the days last around 36 hours over there and we had a rental car we pushed our time as far as it would go and didn't really have time for those trivial things in life such as internet, eating, and sleeping. But now we are back in Oslo, Norway and find ourselves with a day up our sleeves. Anyway, let's talk about Iceland. WOW! What an awesome place. Day 1: Pickup our car at the airport and start freaking about driving on the right-hand side of the road. We managed to drive about 15 minutes down the road without incident to a thermal pool formed by the outflow from a geothermal power station. Having pryed kathryns fingernails out ... read more
