Well it has been a while since I have updated my blog! Maybe a little too long but I assure you lot's has happened, so if you've been waiting for an entry, get ready for a long one!!! Christmas here was good! We decorated the tree on Christmas eve, then put the presents underneath, then opened them right after! I sang at a Christmas eve mass here in Budapest (all in english though...) and then we came home and had fish soup which was surprisingly really good! The herald of the fifth portion of Rachels Tour de Europe came with the arrival of her long-time friend, Kristen French. Kristen hails from Boulder, Colorado and the two met while studying abroad in Wollongong, Australia. With nostalgia for long discussions over steeping tea, and a disenchantment for the real world, Kristen spontaneously bought a plane ticket and the two decided to meet in Hungary. Two weeks later, Rachel arrived at the Budapest airport holding a sign conspicuously advertising the slogan, "Hungary for Love". Many recent arrivals in the airport looked curiously at the sign, attempting to decipher whether it was a Cancer Treatment Organization or an Escort Service. I got the over nite train form Zurich and arrived bout lunch in Budepest. Tried 1 hostel but it was full but another in Pest was all good. I got sorted then headed over the bridge to Buda and checked out a cave church in the Mt ,in natzi time they had to hide em. Then i climed the Mt to a monument and some big statues, top view of the city. Down past the castle, along the river, pics of parliment on opposite bank then back to Pest via the 1st bridge built in Budapest, now 1 of about 10. Yesterday on Saturday we organized a trip to Eger by our own. We started at 9 am in the morning. After 2.20h travelling by train we arrived in Eger (northeast Hungary), one of the famous vine regions. During the day we visited the Basilika, the Minareth, the castle, Turkish Bath, ... Later we went to the "Valley of beautiful women" to look for a good vine cellar. It was great here. More than 40 vine cellars. And the vine tasted very good. It was a very nice trip, and very cheap. We only spend 400 HUF for the vine tasting and everyone was drunken. So the trip back was much funnier than the outward journey :-)... read more
