Hungarian Uprising -- 1956
March 3rd 2007 Just outside the parliment building is a memorial to those who were killed in the unsuccessful uprising against the Communist government in 1956. The uprising was crushed and at least 30,000 people in Budapest were killed. Western nations and the UN had made promises to help, but failed to follow through on those promises.
